Open Gate

This hotel was amazing. Small, welcoming, personal and very well thought out. The staff was helpful at every turn, greeting us each day asking what coffee or tea they could make us. The breakfast was extensive and delicious. Dinner was excellent as well and it was so nice being able to eat right there in the hotel. They also made me the best Aperol Spritz I had during our entire 3 weeks in Italy. It was perfect to have sitting on our balcony enjoying the view! Additionally, just down the road is a mini-mart where you can buy bus tickets and other food items to enjoy. There was a nice fridge in the room to store drinks. It was perfect.

The Open Gate Hotel exceeded my expectations in several ways. Firstly, the room I stayed in was impeccably clean and well-lit, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The staff at the hotel were incredibly friendly and always ready to assist, making me feel welcome throughout my stay. The highlight of my visit, though, was undoubtedly the breathtaking view from the hotel. The scenic beauty added a magical touch to the entire experience. The availability of parking space was a significant convenience for me, especially because I had rented a car for my trip along the picturesque Amalfi coast. Parking can be quite a challenge in this region, so having it provided by the hotel was a huge plus. Another notable advantage of the Open Gate Hotel is its proximity to a bus stop, allowing for easy access to destinations like Positano. This convenience made exploring the area hassle-free.

To be honest there's nothing to complain about.

The view/patio was spectacular. Loved the breakfasts and the staff were super kind, patient, and helpful. Location is right in front of where the local bus picks up, and just a 3 minute walk to the regional bus stop. OG is on the main road between Positano and Amalfi

So it is on the main road so it can be really noisy, and being in Praiano, there is nothing around the hotel. The beach is a 15 minute walk (which is fine, but be warned, lots of stairs everywhere and in the heat, it is exhausting), the "store" is about 10 minute walk, there are restaurants on the upper streets, which require another 15 minute walk straight up. The bus arrives once an hour, and there are no taxis. It isn't the hotel's fault, just letting you know, you will do a lot of walking up and down stairs, but that's generally all hotels in this area. In spite of being in Praiano, in July, I felt the price was more than it should have been (hence the 4/5 on value).

A stunning view of the Amalfi coastline from the room and breakfast terrace. The staff are so welcoming and Hotel's restaurant was located directly opposite perched on the coastline, serving delicious pasta, seafood and daily specials. So convenient and great value, we ate there every night, after our day trips. The staff went out of there way to assist us in our planning and helped us when we had the disaster of luggage being lost at the airport for 3 days!

There is nothing really - just be aware that the coastline is busy and pack your walking shoes and bathers!

Lovely! Perfectly met our hopes for relaxing honeymoon experience. Staff always friendly and helpful, assisted us in booking transportation. Room was bright, clean, incredible view from the balcony. Great bathroom. Appreciated the air conditioning. Excellent breakfast accommodating gluten-free. Would absolutely stay again!

Expensive but on par for Amalfi coast. You do have to walk on the road to reach the beach or other restaurants - no issue for us but maybe not great for kids or low mobility. This is the same for most places in Praiano.

A great alternative to staying in the busy town of Positano. There are great transport links to all the towns along the Amalfi Coast. The bus stop for the local bus to Positano is directly outside the door so you can be in Positano within 20 minutes. We really liked how quiet it was compared to Positano and central Praiano but could access both really easily. I would recommend getting a sea view room as it’s great to relax on the balcony and watch all the boats going by.

The buses aren’t regular so be prepared to wait. It is located on a main road so you can hear cars/scooters passing.

Everything! The rooms were clean and spacious with exceptional facilities including the bathroom and the tablet which included QR codes which allowed us to easily connect to the free wifi, see the local bus timetables and the menu of the delicious food at the restaurant downstairs. The staff were so so lovely and accommodating and would happily and easily answer any question or query you might have about what to do, see or how to get around the area. For a place that seemed like such a luxurious stay, the sense of family and homey nature of the property really shone through. It was well located on the main road with a bus stop just around the corner, meaning no crazy Amalfi coast stairs, however the soundproofing of the room meant it was super quiet and we had one of the best sleeps of our whole trip. Would absolutely recommend staying here to any family or friends :)

The staff are so welcoming and friendly. They were very willing to answer questions in person and via WhatsApp before and during our stay. They treated us so well! The room was clean and nicely decorated and had a beautiful view. The bed was very comfortable, the air conditioning worked well and there was ample space in the room with our large bags. The location is central, but not too busy like other parts of the coast. The food at the restaurant downstairs is delicious and it was a convenient option.

The people at Open Gate are incredible. Welcoming, helpful, caring - I have never felt so 'home' at a hotel. The staff were always there for anything we needed, and made some arrangements on our behalf (restaurant reservations, advice on how to take the bus, etc). They were so kind. We had a fabulous room with many different types of tile that is so common in Amalfi, and an incredible balcony with a fantastic view of the ocean. The air conditioning worked very well, thank goodness as it was hot while we were there. We didn't realize that the restaurant in the hotel was also fantastic - one of our favorite meals while visiting Amalfi. It was also nice to have a fridge in the room so that a cold drink was always waiting. The bus stop is right outside the door, there is a little store about 2 mins down the street for any needs you may have. It's a great central location for exploring Praiano, right on the main road. If you are visiting Amalfi and wondering which town to stay in - I can't recommend Praiano enough. Better value, less tourists/people, and just as many incredible views/restaurants! A beautiful, family run hotel in a fantastic position - close to bus stop for rest of Almalfi and Positiano but also a short walk to nearby beach, restaurants and day club Il Pirata. We were going to wait to eat at the restaurant until our last night but I rolled my ankle and couldn’t go anywhere so we ate breakfast, lunch and dinner there for two days and they were some of the best meals we had in all of Italy, like eating out of Nonna’s kitchen. Stunning views from balcony - what you see in the pictures is what you get. Highly recommend. Emma
