Le Saintongeais

The owners are wonderful! They gave us excellent service, played and fussed over our dog and generally made lovely conversation (we have broken French and together made it work). The village is beautiful, there's no shop so come prepared, but we wanted somewhere quiet to get some work done and a good night's sleep and we got just that. The hotel's WiFi worked great, even for video calls and there were plugs either side of our bed. We also had a delicious meal for dinner made by the owners of, what I'm guessing, was locally sourced produce because it was all fresh and tasted great! Would definitely return.

Very friendly staff in an old and quaint stone property in a quiet village. Rural France as it should be with no frills. Good dinner at reasonable price.

Slight smell with the toilet which had a macerator. Not much room to sit in bedroom but bar area had lots of space.

owner is super friendly and patient whilst we practised our French. She didn’t do what most do and reply in English. she bought in 2019 and has had a tough time what with Covid but wasn’t grumbling. V accommodating of our dog too.

they’s not much to not like. It’s in a tiny village and it’s rustic, laid back - nothing around but fab for an overnight stop.

A few minutes off the motorway, a good place to stop on my journey north from Spain, Berneuil is a small, quiet village and le Saintongeais is a central point. Run by a very friendly family, with a spotless room and en-suite bathroom and a good restaurant, I found it the perfect place to break my journey.

Very clean room and comfortable beds, calm village, real countryside feeling. Perfect place to stop on a road trip.

More flexibility would be appreciated in checking in times.

All was perfect tremendous hosts, catering excellent. Cleanliness outstanding. Made our stay in the Charante-Maritime a great experience.

walls in bedrooms a bit thin - but it’s the sort of place where guests do tread and talk quietly upstairs

Nice quiet hotel in a small town. Quite close to the main highway Bordeaux - Paris. Very nice dinner for a very reasonable price and a good breakfast.

A small family-run hotel in a rustic setting. Very friendly staff. It's not very far from the main roads, but enough for the place to be quite calm. There's a nice romanesque church nearby.

The toilet is a little bit noisy (when you flush).
