Dos Palmas Studio Apartments

Since we arrived late, we decided to stay near the San Jose Airport before heading to our rental. Dos Palmas is very close. Peter and Flora were very gracious, even after I thought I booked a transfer...but I didn't (totally my fault). The property is small (4 rooms), Our room had two good sized beds, a small kitchen and comfortable seating in front of the room. There is not A/C in the room, but the fan was more than enough. Breakfast was very good. There is also a small pool that we could have used - did not. After a long travel day - we were hungry and Flora suggested a nice little restaurant across the street and also let us know Uber Eats was available if we wanted. We were so pleased with Dos Palmas, before we left, we booked a room for the night before our early morning flight back to the US. Note: you are close to the airport, and we could hear the air traffic, but it really wasn't an issue.

We stayed for two nights, once at the start and once at the end of our holiday. It is a 5-10 min drive from the airport, and the owners kindly arrange transport. The owners were so friendly and accommodating, giving helpful tips and advice, and helping sort out car hire. The room was big and comfortable, with a delicious breakfast. Being so close to the airport there is noise from planes until late, but they do not fly all night. It would be worth having earplugs for the noise, but this wouldn't put me off as Dos Palmas is so convenient.

The host was very friendly upon our arrival, and suggested a place to go eat nearby. We did not get to use the pool, but the environment was very lovely considering the location. We got served fresh breakfast before our flight, and it was delicious! We even took advantage of the available wine and outdoor setting the evening before our flight. Way more than you expect from a little row of rooms off a busy airport road. And for such a low price!!

Hard to control based on the location, but it was noisy. The airplanes taking off are pretty loud - and it is off a main road where you might hear trucks honking. Still, we wanted to be close to the airport, so that is what we signed up for.

Staff were fantastic!! The room was very large with a kitchen and fridge. Pickup from the airport was timely and efficient. Highly recommend if you need somewhere to stay for a night before or after a flight. Breakfast was delicious and included but they have a small selection of drinks available for purchase at any time.

Curtains were not blackout. Two very small flat pillows which were fine for me but would probably be disappointing for most people. And I have to note you are staying RIGHT BESIDE the airport. Do not expect a quiet night, the planes and road are very busy and loud.

The airport shuttle service is super helpful after you just land. Our flight was delayed but they came to look for us after we communicated we landed. It's also very close to the airport, which is extremely helpful after traveling for quite some time. The owners are very friendly. They help you with the information.

There's a lot of noise coming from the airport and the main street. The proximity of the airport is the biggest advantage but can be also a disadvantage. Luckily we were so tired that it didn't disturb our sleep (even though my boyfriend is a very light sleeper). The wifi was bad the next morning, making it a bit difficult to organize but the owner help us instead.

How accommodating the host and other staff member were. The host was quick in replying when I wanted to modify my stay! I loved the taxi that came to pick us up and drop us at the airport at 5am. Prompt and short distance to the airport. BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPING, good breakfast, super hot delicious showers, all around, AMAZING PLACE! WONDERFUL HOSTS!

The location can be difficult to get out of due to the street being so busy with traffic. The door to our room would get slightly stuck making a loud scratchy sound when opening or closing, besides that very small detail, everything else was perfect!

Flor was an amazing host, she came running to greet us as we arrived and was so sweet and helpful with dinner recommendations and general assistance! We needed a ground level, easy-access room due to traveling with long surfboards and being worried about safety but luckily all the rooms here provided that convenience plus the property is gated. The place looks like a little oasis once you enter the gate, with a cute pool, beverages/ breakfast available, and outdoor lounge area! If you’re needing somewhere to stay that’s easy, has great value, great service, super close to the airport, with a delicious traditional family-run restaurant right across the street, I highly recommend Dos Palmas!!

Unfortunately for all the businesses located on this street there is loud, fast moving traffic that would normally be on the parallel highway, but they are hoping the situation changes soon with toll and construction updates. (Hearing planes from the airport is not a complaint because airport proximity was the whole reason we stayed here! ;) Also, finding the entrance for the first time was tricky because there is no driveway or waiting area for a car in front of the gate. We had to pull onto the curb directly across the street while I got out, ran across the street, and rang the bell. The gate opened for us right away but definitely not ideal waiting for a busy road to clear before being able to pull into the property. Once you’ve done it the first time then you know the ropes from there.

Flor and Peter are excellent hosts with great communication both before and during my stay. Flor was waiting for me with a huge smile and made sure everything was just right including arranging the 3:30am ride to the nearby SJO airport. Nice-sized and very clean room, well-equipped kitchen and two huge beds pushed together. Because of my short stay and early morning departure, I can't comment on the included breakfast or some of the other amenities such as the small swimming pool, but they are offered. The front of the property facing the street is separated from the road by very tall walls and a solid gate so it's not only safe but also private and quiet. The tradeoff for being in an extremely convenient location is the fact that the airport is nearby. Yes, you'll hear planes occasionally but that is the reality for every hotel in the area. There are only four rooms so it makes for a more intimate setting. My husband and a family friend each stayed there within the last month and both of them felt the same way I did.

I would suggest better lighting by the bed. The one lamp on the night stand is small and low and does not, in my opinion, supply much light for reading. And the other side of the bed didn't have a reading light. I use a Kindle so it wasn't a big deal for me but if I were reading a real book, it would have been difficult.

The owner, Flor, was very sweet & accommodating. We had an early flight in which we left before they served their inclusive breakfast. So she offered to make a lunch to go, which we accepted. It was good! We appreciated the complimentary 6 am shuttle service to the airport. A bonus, which we didn't know in advance, is the Hertz rental car return was right across the street. Very convenient! There was also an authentic Carribean style restaurant across the street where we enjoyed our last meal.

For light sleepers: you could hear loud trucks on the nearby highway. It was not an issue for me. Hot water in the shower wasn't great.

We stayed here one night before we went off to Osa Peninsula. Peter and his wife made us feel like home and took care of our luggage while we were in Osa for a couple of days. They even made us a packed breakfast for our early morning flight and arranged transportation to the airport for a low price. Super friendly and we felt like home. Recommend to stay with Peter and his wife👌🏼also great communication and response time prior to the stay!
