Ghent Marriott Hotel

- Staff are excellent and attentive, however no one to help you with your bags during check in. - Price for the location and facilities was reasonable. - AC actually kept the room cold, compared to most European hotels were having an AC is just as useful as using one of those useless toilet hand dryers. - Room is spacious for a couple with 2-3 large bags.

- Felt the room housekeeping was sub-par at best - simply put, I never felt the room was cleaned properly/throughly.

Perfect location to see the historic site of the city. very good breakfast with many choices and good coffee from the espresso machine, the breakfast room with a view on the canal. Nice lobby to have a beer or work. Helpful and super friendly staff. Clean, spacious rooms.

The sound proof is not the best or maybe the guests were above the average :). There was someone with kids in the room above me (?) who there jumping and shouting at night. After the call to the reception they stopped.

The check-in experience was very welcoming. Friendly staff and early arrival still meant we could go to our room. The breakfast was lovely and good staff and the facilities felt welcoming and clean. Lovely room and great check out.

The cleaning on one of the days was extremely late and they came in before we left for breakfast one of the days. The breakfast on the final day, a staff member didn't give us a table and we had to get our drinks which was unusual since all the other days, it was not the case.

The hotel's location was very central and within easy walking distance from most of the landmarks. The front desk staff, and the room service, were all very helpful, accommodating of last-minute requests, and very professional. There is a very good authentic Italian restaurant minutes from the hotel which is perfect for couples celebrating important occasions. Our hotel room was clean and had a nice view of the street below and storied buildings across. Our reserved parking space was in the hotel's basement and was secure, well-lighted and had elevator access. We will stay in this hotel again.

The hotel lobby/ground floor interior design, lay-out and choice of fixtures were confused at best, cluttered to the point of being tacky. Totally out of place for a hotel of this category. Certainly will benefit from a re-design, upgrade and make-over.

Very nice room. Location is amazing. Easy enough to drive to if you are visiting with car. On-Site parking garage (although an extra fee to reserve in advance). Feels a bit pricy until you realize just how great the location is. Next time, we will upgrade to the rooms with the canal view.

I don't like the advance reservation fee for the parking. Should just be reserved upon request when the reservation is booked as it is already paid parking. Feels like cheap motel tactic to require additional payment for reserving a spot, just to arrive and find the garage half empty. Problem is that if you risk it, and it is full, there is no-where else to go so they play on that 'fear factor' for the extra 15 EUR.

The room was located on the banks of the river in the centre of Ghent. The room was as you would expect from the Marriot, largish, big comfortable bed, clean, bath and shower and quiet despite the music festivities going on right outside. The staff were polite, helpful and a pleasure to deal with.

The bar and reception area was a little tired and the seating area too bright with no sense of intimacy. The breakfast cost was more than the cost of a dinner, but it is easy to find somewhere else to go close by.

Superb, reassuringly expensive hotel in the absolute centre of Ghent's tourist area. Excellent underground parking adjacent to main reception area costing 55 euros a night if you go for 'reserved' option. Our room was the standard international hotel option - huge comfortable bed and very clean. I'm sure food offerings are excellent but we took all meals out in restaurants and cafes within a 5 minute stroll. We only had one night in Ghent and wanted to see as much as possible without wasting time getting there. Marriott was a pricey choice but perfect for what we wanted.

Room only had shower over bath. We would have preferred a separate shower cubicle.

Exceptional hotel in a perfect location, comfy beds and super helpful staff. From the moment in checked in Fanny at the front desk made me feel welcome and she had such a friendly way about her and a warm smile. Fanny went above and beyond to make my stay exceptional. The location can’t be beat, I booked a river view and the view and room were outstanding. The room had the original windows and looked like the original wood floors. I sat by the window enjoying the view of the canal. There was a big screen tv with lots of channels and a super comfy bed. I highly recommend it, I’m so glad I stayed here and thank you again Fanny for helping me with my breakfast with a view in my room. I really felt a genuine Belgian experience staying in my river view room. Loved everything

Nothing, everything was fantastic

Location excellent. The room was very good. We would have like breakfast every morning but the woman in charge was scary. The pricing was strange. So for 19 euros I could have continental but no cereal or fruit?? Yet I could have yoghurt. We felt guilty going back for another slice of toast and asking for an extra slice of toast. It was like been back at school not at all enjoyable so we went elsewhere the other mornings. I expect better and a more friendly treatment. The Marriott website should be the cheapest price not elsewhere but it’s such a hassle claiming through price match I booked elsewhere. Marriott should always be cheaper.

The woman with dark hair at breakfast she behaves like a head mistress. Breakfast was anything but enjoyable as she breathed down our next and scrutinise our breakfast. My husband had one slice of ham as per the rules but we are adults we can understand rules. If we want a refill of coffee then it should be given without feeling guilty. She spoilt breakfast so we only had it one morning as totallyboff putting

We had a very comfortable and spacious room overlooking the canal/old port at the front, which was lovely (and costs a premium). The breakfast was a good buffet in a nice dining room also overlooking the front. For me, this is the perfect location for Central Ghent as everything is close and you get to walk through all the 'best bits', with lots of restaurants and bars all around

The only draw back with the location is that it is slightly complex to get to by car, but we arrived in an Uber and booked a taxi to the station on departure which both worked fine
