Just an amazing stay. A 1920's inn in a beautiful, secluded, quiet Lake Michigan beach town. Easy drive from Chicago, but you'd never guess you were so close. It's not your normal modern hotel with pool, tv etc. It's like going to summer camp in all the best ways. Historic building with homey, roomy main lobby filled with Mission era chairs and pottery, big gathering room with tables set up for puzzles and games, piano that kids and adults really do play. Stairs to Lake Michigan beach across the street. Green wooded grounds with a pond with frogs and fish and a fountain picnic tables, Adirondack chairs, first circle, charcoal grill. Rocking chairs on the front porch facing Lake Michigan (view blocked by woods, but sound and sunset is not). It's the "north woods" resort of my grandparent's youth. The most peaceful, relaxing place I've been in years. The families with kids seem to love it. Easy access to beaches, bicycles, ample parking for guest which makes access to the wider area easy too. There are no TVs, but good wifi. Quiet hours 11-8AM because it's an old building and sound travels, but people adhere to it and it's really nice sleeping with the windows open listening to the breeze on the trees and the frogs singing. Absolutely magical. I want to come back.

They have coffee and breakfast baskets in the morning, but otherwise you have to go out for food. There are lots of options in the area. Good area for food, particularly on the weekend. It's a resort area, so a lot of places are closed Monday-Wednesday, when I was first there. But there was enough open that I ate well and a lot more opened on Thursday. Nice farmers markets in the area. Lost of breweries and wineries.

Very friendly staff. Great location. You can walk right op to the lake and there is a spot for guest to sit and enjoy sunset. Really historical building. Nice seats next to the front door where you can chill. Bed and sheets were great. Very clean. Spotted a lot of wild life like dear, squirrels and even foxes in close proximity to the hotel.

As they also describe the hotel is old which means it is not sound proof. However it didn't bother me since the other guests all made an effort to be silent. Not many restaurants nearby or public transport. Car is recommended. I did it all by walking and enjoyed it but most stuff is 30-60 mins walk from the hotel.

The grounds were beautiful there at the Inn and we loved the pond with the fountain, just a beautiful setting and quiet and peaceful. Obviously the lake was outstanding and we enjoyed watching the sunset over the Lake. We had celebrated our 44th wedding anniversary and the weather was outstanding and we had a great time.

The only concern was the steps leading down to the Lake especially a section that was very steep.

Picturesque Adirondack-Yellowstone style of lodging with friendly staff, wonderful charm and outdoor area for relaxing. Although it was too cold to swim, we thought the location beside Lake Michigan was pretty special. We would definitely return and have already told family members about this hidden gem. The breakfast options were of good-quality and great coffee made for a nice morning experience.

Pillows on the bed tended to be full of lumpy cotton balls. It would help to invest in feather/down pillows. The mirror above the in-room sink was meant to be "antique-like" but it was totally unusable--like a fun-house mirror. Recommend removing the large dresser in the bedroom and replacing it with more functional storage and a full-length mirror. (Room 26)

We enjoyed the historic beauty of the place. It is peaceful and relaxing, with pretty grounds. They roast and grind their own coffee every morning. Lake Michigan is visible from the front porch of the Inn. It is a good place for couples and families alike. The price is more reasonable than most other places around there.

The biggest downfall is that everyplace in the Inn has steps. The lake is accessed by going down 134 steps to the beach. This is good exercise, but definitely not handicap accessible.

This place is great! The beach is what really sold it for us and made it worth the price. There were only a handful of people on the beach. We drove to Michigan city to see the lighthouse, zoo, etc., But it was so crowded we just came back and enjoyed our little beach for the day. The room was very clean and even though it's old, we still had that upscale hotel feeling of comfort. I wasn't constantly checking things to make sure it wasn't dirty like I've done at many newer hotels recently. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was delicious. They had just reopened the option for breakfast, which was preordered and placed in a picnic basket for you in the lobby.

I think the only complaint we had is that the toilet was in a corner that made it awkward for tall people to use. We both had to sit crooked because the wall was so close. Obviously this is a historic place so it's not like that's something that could be changed.

Fantastic location with easy access to a lovely beach. Plenty of rocking chairs on the porch to relax on in the quiet evenings.

Rooms could use a little sprucing up.
