Waterbird Lakeside Inn

Perfect location, great price. The room looked freshly renovated. Lovely view, even the art in the room was beautiful photography of the Indiana Dunes. It was such a nice touch. There were makeup remover wipes in the bathroom! The lighting inside the room was very nice too. The blackout curtains actually blocked the sunlight. Thought we didn’t end up needing the microwave or fridge this time, it’s so nice to have.

The bathroom could have been a little cleaner, it was trivial though (a hair on the side of the tub behind the door). I had to take the batteries out of the remote and switch them around to get the remote to work properly, but it was an easy fix.

The hotel is on a charming little lake and the balcony leans right over the water. In the morning we saw 3 different kinds of turtles as well as fish and birds. It was very beautiful and peaceful. At first I couldn’t believe this hotel was on a lake because we had just pulled off the highway with all kinds of traffic. What a pleasant surprise to see that our room really did look out onto a quiet little lake. I would stay here again!

The hotel was a little worn and faded and could definitely use some sprucing up. I would take out the 70’s carpeting and just install some kind of flooring. It was definitely the carpets that gave the place the tired look. Also, when the description said that it looked over THE lake, I assumed the lake was Lake Michigan. At first I was disappointed, but then we loved Chubb Lake, well, it is really a large pond.

Baby needed more lighting in that lovely big room! Bathroom good but needs a little work. Microwave had food bits inside and coffee machine used pod still in tray! Floors creaked so walked softly as we could in case people downstairs. Exit door to parking full of cigarette butts. Maybe a sand bucket for smokers?

Great room with a comfy bed and room upgrades in-progress. I love the private deck with lake view and the value for my work out-of-town trips makes it even better. Plenty of space to work within the room as well. I will return here every time for my work needs in the area.

Not a dislike--but I understand that things aren't perfect while undergoing renovations. But something that is easily overcome based on my needs.

The room and balcony view was excellent. Bird watching was awesome and even watching the turtles was sweet. We really enjoyed the hot tub. It was clean and comfortable.

The bathroom tub had hair in the tub. We had brought our cleaning supplies and cleaned the tub ourselves. We did however have to call the front desk for assistance turning on the shower. That was an inconvenience but the lady at the front desk was swift and kindly came to our assistance.

Location is great. Lake view from the room and balcony to watch the birds over the water in the mornings (sunset balcony picture included in review) and only a few miles to the beach in the afternoons. Also, staff is very friendly and helpful.

Lights in room ran on motion sensor, but the sensor was around the corner by the door and did not pick up motion from the part of the room where most time was spent. Lights randomly turned off on me a few times while sitting on the couch watching tv. Not a huge deal, but a bit annoying. Sensor should be moved to pick up the living area of the room.

The view of the small lake is beautiful with your own little balcony. Bed was super comfortable with a small sitting area to take in some TV before turning in for the night.

there were issues with heating the hallway outside our lower level room. It was freezing in the hall. The staff did apology and offered to move us to another room but we loved our view.

I booked this room before my husband read the reviews, they only had a 2 for reviews. I was amazingly surprised when we arrived to the room. There is no lake view from the front, but when you enter the room you are surrounded by the magnificent view of Chubb Lake. I was shocked when I stepped out onto the balcony and realized that not only the balcony, but the room itself was on top of the water!! As we sat on the balcony we watched turtles (several species) swimming under and around the balcony. A while later we watched as the sandpipers, egrettes, blue heron, and geese came in to feed. Watching them dive into the water and nest around the lake was truly amazing. Anyway, you're wondering about the room itself. We booked a room with a hot tub so we could relax after hiking the dunes. I have a bit of ocd when it comes to cleanliness and I'm happy to say that the room met my expectations. Considering that they are short on staff, as well as many businesses are at this time, I find this fact amazing. I recommend this Inn to anyone looking for a private paradise while visiting Dunes State Park.

The size of the room, the location, the view from our room, and cleanliness of the room and hotel location were excellent. The staff were friendly. Hotel was conveniently located near the interstate, food/eating options, and nearby tourist attractions. Those were all high items on our priority list. The price of our hotel was affordable and they allowed us to alter our original booking dates.

The bedroom pillows were smaller than desired. There were train tracks nearby and you could hear the train blow their horn as it went by during the night. No extra blankets or pillows in the room.

This lodging was exactly as advertised--we had a semi-private balcony right off the king bed room we booked, plus it was just 3 miles from the entrance to the Indiana Dunes National Park, & close to the Dunes State Park. The room was surprisingly spacious, the largest we've ever had at this price point, & included a sofa with a fold-out bed (which we didn't need). The mattress was a bit soft for our tastes, but the bedding was clean, soft, & comfortable enough for our 3-night stay. The view from our balcony was very nice, especially in the evenings when the egrets came in to roost in the large bushes that were part of the wooded area behind the hotel. We spent time out there in the mornings & evenings just watching the water birds, turtles, & fish in the lake. The shower head was adjustable & the water flow was strong on any setting. The little coffee maker was well stocked, the mini-fridge was larger than expected, & both worked very well. The manager at the front desk & the housekeeping staff were courteous, friendly, and thanked us for staying with them. We would definitely stay there again if we are in the area.

As in most hotels, the towels were smaller than we're used to at home (or in the more luxurious places we've stayed), but these were clean & fresh-smelling, so obviously replaced each day. The sofa bed was not comfortable to sit on, but it was also clean enough & served our needs. On off times, the hot water was slow, but was quicker for morning showers.
