One of the best B&Bs on the Coast to Coast trail. The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. The beer garden provided a fantastic yet casual place to hang out to enjoy the B&Bs beautiful surroundings. The food offered in the beer garden, restaurant and during breakfast was superb. The chefs really seemed to cook from the heart as everything we ate was so well made. We appreciated the welcoming cakes and cheese in our room upon our arrival. The bed was comfortable. The room was very clean. Strong wifi for those who care.

Given the age of the building sound does travel. We appreciated the earplugs provided and had no trouble falling asleep.

Me and my partner was only here for one night and we found the staff are very friendly and welcoming. It's a relaxed and peaceful place, the surroundings, are very nice as the hotel is situated in a valley with a stream near by and surrounding trees, and it is a place where you can wind down and leave the rest of the chaotic world behind you. And if you love pets, this is definitely the place for you to be.The food is nice with traditional ales, and I think that I'd probably go there again only book a lot earlier and not last minute...other wise I liked the place.

The sleep was a bit uncomfortable as the mattress was lumpy.

We stayed at this hotel due to my son, partner and dog staying in late 2022 and recommended it to us and we stayed for two nights. The hotel is set in a beautiful area near to the River Esk and is a quaint 19th century building. There was a good choice of food for breakfast from toast, cereal to full English breakfast, which was tasty and a sausage for Millie, our dog. We had evening meal for the two nights we stayed. The food was excellent, but the choice on the menu might be limited for some, were they to stay longer. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful and had a good knowledge of the area. We enjoyed sitting by a real coal fire and having a relaxing pint in the evening. The room we stayed in was large with ensuite and most importantly clean. Last but least we loved seeing the chickens roaming around. Would we stay again? Yes most definitely. Thanks Craig for an enjoyable stay.

I'm travelling by bicycle from Germany, touring all British and Irish isles. So far, 759.6 Km travelled. I arrived with my Brompton and trailer here thanks to a lovely fellow, saving me from a downpour. The owner of the hotel was so kind to store my Brompton and trailer securely for me. This is a very serene place. Lovely interior, very kind staff, and cosy rooms. The food selections seem basic on the start, but they mostly have a very flavoursome twist. As a former chef myself, I wish more premises would dare to take on food classics in the same way. Overall, it was a great experience for me, and if I would not be on a cycle tour, I'd love to extend to stay for a few days! Thank you very much for a great stay and a trip uphill saving me from a great struggle

Nothing worth mentioning

Staff were super friendly and helpful. Breakfast options were great, and yummy! The rooms were very quirky and interesting. I really liked the outside area too, unfortunately we didn't have time to explore. It's a short drive from Whitby. The bed was super comfortable.

We arrived, after a very long journey, maybe 5 minutes after 8pm and was told "no food". No 3 course meals is understandable as the kitchen was closed, but to be told that nothing was available, didn't go down well. We were told the bar closed at 11pm, so we came back before, specifically to have a nightcap. The entire building was dark and locked up :( The baths/showers should really have gripped bath matts, or equivalent to avoid slipping.

Food on the evening and breakfast excellent. Good choice for us, very fresh local produce served by very good Staff, bar drinks choice excellent served by first class Manager. Could not understand the negative comments on some sites. It is a country Hotel/pub built in 1750s old windows and doors but with excellent contents and Staff, this place has real character, we will go again. Lovely place and area, thank you.

Stay not long enough.

The staff were fabulous. Polite, friendly, efficient ! The setting was incredible, very beautiful location and the interior decoration is marvellous 😀 Food is excellent, very recommendable and I love the way all dogs receive a sausage for breakfast 😋 ❤ Extremely dog friendly

Its not a dislike ... more of a quirk... the roosters 🐓 ♥ 😆 🤣 😂 If you have ear plugs supplied, use them because you will need them! Maybe the dog should have them too because my puppy didn't.... 😆 🤣

Great location, beautiful and authentic interior decoration, lovely spacious bedroom and bed, Yorkshire country furnishings, fresh cakes and cheese in room on arrival, good coffee making machine, fabulous breakfast, products sourced locally, chickens in outside area, farm shop and outside and inside bars, great attention to detail

Shower was a bit clunky (we had great difficulty turning it off); at check in and supper the junior staff seemed a bit short on customer service training although this was mitigated by friendly and capable service from the other more senior team members

Fantastic breakfast and dinner, food was delicious and portion sizes were big. Lovely outside area good atomsphere, very chilled. Extremely polite, efficient staff, they couldn’t do more for you. The one young guy working the weekend was exceptional, really made our stay as comfortable as possible. Quirky interior. Would highly recommend great place decent price.

Slightly stale smell in the landing area.

I loved the small unexpected details like the complimentary cheese and fig squares placed in the room when we arrived and the toiletries from The Cosy Cottage from Malton. The bed was very comfortable, the staff was super friendly and the outdoor area with the pizza oven and bar was fantastic. The food was fabulous and so was the breakfast. We couldn’t go to the farm shop because we arrived too late and left too early but is definitely on my list next time!

We liked everything, the only things I would mention are that one of our water bottles was opened and we had milk leftover from the previous guest and that the owner’s dog did bark until about 10.30. But to be fair, it was Easter Bank Holiday, its was incredible busy and the dog was quiet soon after speaking with the staff. I love how dog friendly the hotel is and will definitely be returning.
