Goudhurst is a very pretty Wealden village on a hill dating mainly from the fifteenth century with buildings typical of the place and time, varying from brick,,tile-hung and weatherboard. The hotel is adjacent to the church and has far-reaching views over the surrounding countryside. It is well-placed to visit the many National Trust and other properties nearby, the most famous being Sissinghurst Castle and gardens created by the late Vita Sackville West and Harold Nicholson. The coast is about 25 miles away with the seaside town of Hastings being an attraction and the ancient town of Rye being well worth a visit. The rooms are beautifully furnished and the restaurant serves a good menu.

The journey to our room was intriguing although it did carry a risk of banging one’s head on low beams. To say the place is full of character and history is an understatement. On possibly the warmest night of the year, I was slightly nervous of opening the only window given its antiquity but it was fine. Some traffic noise as a result but less than I expected given the sharp bend right outside. Food was excellent even though we arrived late, as was the beer. Parking was easy. Bed was comfortable.

Breakfast was very good but I’m sorry to say that the coffee was borderline undrinkable. The hot water for the shower took forever to come through but it did eventually so that was fine. The wardrobe was a novel place to hide the kettle!

Restaurant was better than I had expected. Breakfast was good, staff were very friendly and helpful. Pub and restaurant were pleasantly decorated.

Room maintenance could have been better. Some light bulbs were burned out, toilet took half an hour to refill. Windows painted shut. No power plugs near the bed; this is a problem because my wife uses a CPAP machine. Traffic on the bend outside the pub was a constant problem.

We loved the historical aspects of the property, the staff and service was superb. Great breakfast supplied and we used the restaurant for lunch and dinner. Loved the location close to many interesting places.

The room was really hot, not surprising in the heat wave, however, there was no fan in the room. It was a minor thing as we were able to keep our windows open all night.

The hotel was lovely, staff really friendly and they went beyond to help me with some requests which I appreciated. Room was beautiful and very spacious. The one thing I did not like was that I could not turn the towel rail off and I have a problem with heat but at least I could open the window fully which helped. The breakfast was really good.

beautiful old building and staff are so friendly.

Only one thing. The restaurant menu is not printed. you have to read it from a board in the bar and this is above a table at which people are seated. you have to take a picture on your phone, which I did not feel comfortable doing as the table was occupied. No idea why they can’t get it printed for the tables as they have other stuff printed!

We were there over the Platinum Jubilee, and the hotel / pub / restaurant was really busy, but we were very well looked after. It was a privilege to stay in such an amazing, characterful old hotel with stunning views and in a beautiful, Kentish village. The food was very good, and they dealt with our dietary requirements extremely well, even though half the world seemed to be eating and drinking there. What a fabulous place! We will stay there again - perfect even without the Morris dancers in the pub courtyard and the Jubilee Beacon on the village green!

The whole experience was very positive, from the service we received to the charming period features of the property situated in a pretty village. The staff there were very warm and could not do enough for us and the food was delicious.

The carpet upstairs has seen better days.

Enjoyed this wonderful historical building. Service and staff were available, friendly and very helpful without being overwhelming. Food was delicious. Location good for all the places we wanted to visit. Such a lovely relaxing stay

Cost, not cheap, but was worth it for us.

It was just great, with extremely friendly staff, a delicious breakfast, and a rum with a full posted bed that will be difficult to match.

The amount of traffic that passes through Goudhurst, but there’s nothing the hotel can do about that.
