Staff were very welcoming and helpful from check-in to check-out, the room (Superior Double with Scenic View) turned out to be more than we were expecting, a lovely surprise, as it had a living room type area before going into a separate bedroom. Location is a 5-minute walk from the town centre (up a gradual hill for about 1/3 of a mile) but close enough to most of the town shops and attractions without being too close to be affected by night-time noise. Breakfast choices were good, nothing overly special or fancy, but more than enough to set you up for the day. Had planned to use the leisure facilities (open to public as well as guests) but didn't end up having time. Seating areas both inside/outside spacious and accessible. Overall, would definitely consider returning if booking another weekend away to Pitlochry.

Nothing in particular that we didn't like about the hotel at all. The shower pressure in our room was low, but that is probably the only issue we really had if anything. There were a few little bits in the room that could do with a little touching-up/freshening up also, but nothing so bad it affected the quality of the room.

The glory days of Victorian and the Empire are behind us, so we have to accept that these sort of hotels are past their best and struggle to compete with modern hotels. However, for the price, this hotel is excellent. Don't expect perfection, and the Savoy it's not, but the staff were top notch. We felt welcome and right at home. We were travelling on classic motorcycles, and had a bracket broken on the panniers. The maintenance guy could not have been more helpful. We asked if he had and flat bar and if we could borrow some tools... But no. He came and had a look, measured up and went away to make a new bracket. He wouldn't accept a tip so we gave it to reception to pass on. If you're a bit fussy and picky then this may not be the place for you, but if you're laid back and chilled, you'll love it.

Staff, atmosphere, location.

Had lovely time. After reading negative reviews for this hotel we almost cancelled however so glad we did not. We had a really good stay. Our room (room 2) which was a superior with view was really big. Lovely, comfy bed. Plenty power points and USB points next to bed. Coffee maker and kettle and good selection of tea and coffee. Very clean, yes the windows are old, and the carpets a bit dated (but clean) but the hotel dates back to 1890! You are not going to get super modern non squeaky floors. It has character and charm. Our bathroom was also a good size and very clean. Enjoyed our drinks at the bar and all staff very nice. All the public areas were nice and bright. Garden was cute. We walked down to the town taking the steps to the gate. You need to take your time but quick way to the town. Wee climb on the way back but doable. Will definitely return.

Happy with everything

Breakfast was good. Not much variety on offer e.g.cooked items, fruit, but what was there was very well prepared and tasty. Service was lovely, from all staff.

There were no bedside lights in my 'superior' room! But receptionist Steven found one for me. The TV remote was very dirty. The kettle in the bedroom was on a lower shelf of a small table, forcing the steam out the front and back of the table, which was rather dangerous. Set dinner menu in hallway had no price on it.

An excellent location just a short walk to the Main Street. Friendly and attentive staff. Dog friendly - my dog enjoyed the live music in the bar with some doggy treats and a bowl of water brought over by the barman. Spacious room with great facilities - we booked a superior room with a view and it didn’t disappoint. A comfortable bed, coffee making facilities, shower gel and of course a lovely view with big traditional sash windows - just gorgeous. Dinner both nights were excellent, the first night we dined in the restaurant and ordered from the main menu and I couldn’t fault a thing. Delicious, well presented and lovely staff again. the second night we enjoyed burgers in the bar from the local butcher, these were toasted on a brioche bun served with chips and coleslaw and again - absolutely delicious. Bar prices were fantastic in comparison to other places we’ve travelled to in Scotland for mini breaks. Barman was friendly and attentive. Decor in the bar was lovely with books to read or games to play whilst you relax - we chose the dominos. Swimming pool and facilities were lovely. Overall we had no complaints for our stay. Having read previous reviews - I was worried. But when you’re paying 275,or in the region, for 2 people for 2 nights - what are people expecting? Is it the fanciest hotel we’ve stayed in - no. However for the price we paid we have absolutely no complaints with the hotel and everything we got. We’ve stayed in places where one night is more than 2 here so we knew it wouldn’t be as up market and we were more than ok with that. But judging by previous reviews from others - they were expecting a Rolex for a Casio price. We got a lovely big room, kept warm all night, lovely hot showers in the morning, breakfast too, for less than £70 each a night, after a worldwide pandemic and during a cost of living crisis…pretty good to me!! We definitely will be returning with our dog.

As I previously said, can’t really think of anything we didn’t like we were so pleased with what we got for our money. It wasn’t my favourite hotel breakfast I’ve had - but it had all the components of a good one - cereals and toast, pastries and then the hot food.

The Pitlochry Hydro Hotel is an excellent place if you are looking for a few days relaxing break as I was. Although the hotel is old, the decor is lovely. The hotel lounge area is very spacious. The rooms are very spacious with plenty of accessories, hairdryer shampoo and luxury soaps. The pool and sauna are a must on your visit. All of the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The views from the upper floor rooms are breathtaking.

There was nothing that my husband and myself didn't like. It was a perfect hotel in a perfect location.

Despite being understandably dated, it is nice and clean. Really lovely staff. The cleaner is a credit to the Hotel and should probably be paid more to keep her, or him.

There is a mild odour of dog urine at the main door. It would be good to pour a few hot buckets of disinfectant out there once in a while if it's so dog friendly. New modern locks wouldn't go amiss. A little better signage on things like tea/coffee so you know what's what. I and several others did ask which had tea and which had coffee. A viewing platform for the pool would be nice as not all guests will swim. In my case my spouse and son swam. It would have been helpful if I could sit at the side to look after my son from time to time while my spouse swam in peace.

Breakfast was excellent, from porridge, full English, and pastries plus lots of tea/coffee. Staff were very nice and smiley. Dinner was part of our deal, and was really nice. Different each of the two nights. As it was our anniversary, we had afternoon tea, which we both agreed was one of the best. The sandwiches were so fresh, but the cakes were to die for and plenty of them. We upgraded to a superior room with a view, which was very well appointed and clean. Drinks were a reasonably priced. We had absolutely no complaints and would recommend the hotel.

Nothing at all

Very disappointed that at £171 for one night no breakfast was included!! It would have been an extra ten pounds each. The hotel was excellent. Clean, smart and well appointed. Pool and sauna were lovely +jacuzzi. But an extra £10 for breakfast would have taken this trip to £200 for one night. I would like a partial refund-,of even £20 to compensate. We were very disappointed indeed that there was no breakfast. Please supply a partial refund to my debit card. Thank you. Linda-Jane Paterson
