The Ilchester Arms Hotel, Ilchester Somerset

Friendly staff, convenient and clean rooms. Beautiful old inn/pub in sweet little village. Good Breakfast included and 2 dinners we had were just right. The Cottage had comfortable bed. Private outdoor entrance through gate to courtyardas well as french doors to patio and were able to park in the adjoining parking lot all but 1 night when we had to park in the lot down the road. Really good Italian restaurant steps away and open late! Good value for $ at just under $100 including a free (reatail$12) breakfast. Rooms are not "serviced" but at breakfast, your server might ask if you need anything for the room.

WiFi never worked at our cottage or the patios. The door to enter the pub from the cottage/patio rooms was arbitrairly looked/unlocked at various times. Often we'd walk to the door during biz hours and find it locked and have to walk all the way around the outside to get it. Was wonderful to have the outdoor space but the patio and garden need attention. Spend a day clearing the tired patio furniture, trimming, weed mitigation and a good hard power wash down. I appreciated the motion detector security light but it's WAY to bright and you can't enjoy evening time in garden patio with it blaring. We stayed 7 nights and our trash, dishes etc., we had to carry into the pub ourselves.

Prior to my stay the staff were extremely friendly and helpful when I first phoned up to extend my stay from one night to two. By juggling the rooms around I was able to add the extra night and best of all stay in the same room, so I didn't have to move my clutter from one to another. My first night's fish and chips were truly superb and perhaps the best I've ever had. I would visit again just for another plateful of those! I didn't eat at the hotel at all on day two as food was available at the event I attended nearby. Breakfast on the day of my departure though was good and all round I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Ilchester Arms.

Three night stay at the Ilch which is ideally situated for visiting both south Somerset and north Dorset. We booked via booking.com which was a smooth process and our details were there on checkin which was smooth. Booked the Deluxe Suite which was at the top of the building in an attic room with bathroom, WiFi, tv and a small kitchen area. Comfy room although some noise for the road outside on the weekdays. Less so at the weekend. Had a meal in the restaurant on the first night, breakfast (full English) on three mornings and used the bar too. All were great. Staff friendly too and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Great period building, sympathetically decorated and furnished to maximise the history, yet with good quality creature comforts for the traveller. Great breakfast, terrific evening food and wines. Good selection of keg craft beers, although only Doom Bar on tap for those that seek a 'real-ale'. All the staff are very friendly and make for a warm, relaxing stay. I would happily recommend this to anyone wanting to explore the charms of this area of Somerset, especially as the hotel provides a really useful guide of local attractions via email when you book.

The hotel is just perfect. The staff are polite and professional. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The drinks are reasonable. The food is outstanding, especially the cooked to order breakfast, a rare thing in hotels now adays, so it was a real treat to have a beautiful breakfast that was cooked with love. The perfect stop off for Cornwall, just love this hotel. Finally the price was brilliant with breakfast...another rare thing now adays. This small to medium hotel could teach the big chains a thing or two about hospitality.

Room 11 was very well appointed, spacious and great having a rear access too. Also the bar is a bonus, and the inclusive breakfasts were delicious too. The only negative is the ‘wet room’ shower area in the bathroom which does cause the floor area in front of the nearby toilet to pool with water unless one is very careful in directing the shower head and running it for a very short period (a minute or so) which does eliminate too much excess water pooling. Otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our 6 nights stay and would certainly return. Thank you Ilchester Arms 😄

Food at the Ilchester Arms Hotel was excellent. Had lunch before check in and the meal was delicious. Breakfast which was included was also delicious. The room was okay, it was a bit noisy as the window was open because of the mini heatwave.

The bath towels were too small, need to be exchanged for bath sheets. Not having an allocated parking space in the car park was annoying, plus there was no space in the parking area opposite. Managed to find a space on a side road by the hotel car park.

The hotel is a comfortable, quiet and well run establishment. It is off the main routes a short way, but that is what I like. Staff are pleasant and helpful. There is a good and varied menu. Good centre for Somerset, Dorset exploration and not too far from the South (Jurassic) coast. Have stayed there five times now and all rooms are different, so no straight lines and a cottage like feel.

Have no serious complaints. A tiny point is that for a five night stay the clothing hanging was limited in the room I had.

Room was large and comfortable. Breakfast was great and great choices and the breakfast staff were very attentive.

The bathroom grout and sealant had large black patches around the bath. There was mould on the ceiling coving in the bathroom. Not a nice sight when using the bath. It could have been an easy £20 fix . Spoke to reception on exit but no one available from management team. They said they would pass it on to housekeeping but really it's a maintenance issue. Let the hotel down.0

I stayed with a friend and we had two rooms. My room was small but quiet. My friend's was larger but we both found the beds very comfortable. I slept better than I normally do when away. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly and cannot be faulted. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent as was the breakfast. I would stay again as would my friend if she had a quieter room.

The shower was small even for me (I'm a size 10) with little room to move especially if you wanted to keep your hair dry. My friend's room was at the front and the noise from the traffic meant she didn't get the best sleep.
