Location was ideal for visiting my son who lived nearby as well as easy access to Durham and transport links to Newcastle, the room was a good size, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was ok, lots of choice but we did notice a couple of people had burnt items on their plates. We ate in the bar on our second night and it was good value and food was nice.

Our room didn't have any view and although the window did open we were concerned about security as it opened onto a path down the side of the car park.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Here for GNR and put out water and food for runners to take. Thai restaurant was excellent. Good cooked breakfast plenty of choice and fresh coffee. Black pudding was LOVELY! Beds were big and comfy.

Room was a bit noisy as overlooked a busy main road - but not too bad with window closed, but then got a bit hot and no air con in room or fan. Lasagne Magnifico from bar menu was very disappointing - not magnifico. Advertised as 10 layer lasagne with bechamel sauce and grated cheese - probably three layers in a very shallow dish with a slice of cheese of top. And strange the chilli con carne came with chips and not rice?

We stayed with other family members to attend a nearby family function & we found the hotel absolutely fine. Our room was spotlessly clean & we found the staff friendly & welcoming. The bar area was nicely busy with locals & the breakfast was good. Our room, at the front, did have a balcony but we didn't take advantage of it or leave the patio doors open mainly due to the passing traffic noise from the nearby dual-carriageway but this is hardly the hotels fault, just an observation. I had been apprehensive about our visit, having called when passing a couple of months earlier with a room query & wasn't impressed with the staff member I dealt with but all staff were excellent during our stay.

We don't eat a large breakfast so the ''5 options'' tick box menu was acceptable to us but we did find it unnecessarily bureaucratic & it didn't impress other family members, some of whom are regular hotel visitors. Example: poached egg ticked ( the only food requested), poached egg arrives but no toast. Oh, you didn't tick toast, you'll have to get your own. Poached egg cold by the time toast done & a return to find where the butter was. Just have a standard cooked breakfast & ask if a guest doesn't want anything. Plus, retired to bar area to finish cup of coffee but had to be finished with cup quickly so cup could be washed. Staff not retreating until they had possession of cup!

Lovely hotel, easy to reach, spacious bedroom, great staff

During the booking process its advertised as great veiws of Penshaw monument, although does mention upgrading i assumed id have a view of Penshaw, instead i had a view of a main road, a school and above the open fire exit of kitchen. Quite clearly case of you get what you pay for, and I would pay to stay again- the breakfast included is slightly miss leading, you get to pick 5 items so 1 sausage 1 egg to try and make it up to a full english...if ya want a full english it will be around an extra £5 on top of what ya already paid to have the breakfast INCLUDED.

Friendliness and helpfulness of staff, clean and spacious room, comfy bed

Finishing time for a weekend breakfast was a bit early and because I think most of the people staying were at a gig at the stadium of light the night before so didn't get back until after midnight, everyone turned up at the same time (as late as possible) which caused a bit of a bottle neck for breakfasts being served. Just a comment too that might help the breakfast servers - order slips have date, name and room number which mean nothing to the servers so they had to call out the room number to find where to serve to...and the tables had table numbers. Just strange not use them!

The member of staff of arrival was really friendly and more than happy to help. We asked if they could book a taxi for us and they were happy to. The room was spacious and clean and provided miniature toiletries and clean towels for our stay.

We arrived back at the hotel after midnight. We were unaware that you needed a code to enter the accommodation door, therefore we had to call for assistance to let us in. That said, the member of staff was very welcoming when we were greeted at the door. Suggestion for check in, to check whether the access code will be needed.

The location and the staff were amazing. The room and the size of the room were good and very convenient indeed to the location that i was due to visit. The staff were polite and informative when asking questions.

The wind against the window (it was particularly windy) however was loud against the background of the road so would go for an alternative room next time. The restaurant looked lovely as did the bar, however, I did not use it. Breakfast was however poor, seemed pre-cooked and was not at a level I would have expected from somewhere with such a nice restaurant.

Good hotel, although next to the dual carriageway , so ask for a room at the back. Thai restuarant joined on to the hotel so great choice of food from traditional to thai. Rooms are a little tired but all very clean and lots of space

Just make sure of a room at the rear for the traffic noise.

The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was good, self service for, juice, cereal and toast, but a little dissapointed at having to pay extra if you had more than 5 items. On a bus route, so convenient to access Duraham and Sunderland. All staff were really friendly and helpful.

Dissapointed in the outside space, we were under the impression the garden area was larger and more comfortable than it actually was. I feel this was maybe due to us misinterpreting the photographs. Also we felt the menu in the bar area was lacking in variety, as there were no "pub" type meals, such as sandwiches, jacket potatoes etc, as you dont always want a "meal" and there was no where else within walking distance to choose as an alternative. Baring in mind this is just our personal opinion and is not a slur on the establishment.
