To say it was absolutely fantastic would be an under statement. The place was amazing. The staff were friendly , polite and nothing was a problem for them. The accommodation would put some 5 star hotels to shame and I have stayed in a lot of 5 star hotels. The food was outstanding and presentation was excellent. I honestly can not praise the Red Lion enough and we would all stay there again without any hesitation and would advise anyone looking for somewhere to stay in that area The Red Lion is the place to stay. Thank you very very much everyone at the Red Lion for giving us an experience that was Brilliant. Kindest Regards Samuel Tait

There was nothing to dislike everything was excellent

This is the best accommodation we have found in all of Durham So easy to find just off the main road into the city We stayed 2 nights Bed Breakfast and evening meal The food was fantastic for the price and what was provided was of a 5 star standard and plenty of it The room was very clean with everything provided for our stay ie spar water tea coffee biscuits toiletries etc We had our own key to let ourselves into the building as we planned to stay out late The staff are so professional friendly and helpful and honestly cannot do enough for you We felt so relaxed after a comfortable nights sleep it's such a traditional country pub we loved the character inside and out and will definitely be staying there again in the future

Nothing it's fabulous

Room was clean and tidy. Staff were excellent, very nice, very friendly and very helpful. Food was brilliant, well done to all the chefs and staff. Bus stop almost outside the door to Newcastle or Durham should you wanted to use it. We would stay at the Red Lion again.

We had a room above the main door which had a faulty door closer and it was banging continuously during main opening hours. This needs fixing. The upper windows are not double glassed and we found the road very noisy during peak hours. A bath mat would be a good safety feature.

The bedroom, bathroom were very clean, excellent food. I loved the old-type wardrobes and in the dining room lovely oldy artifacts. Greg and his staff were superb nothing was any trouble.

LEAVING. My only moan... Perhaps an earlier breakfast would have been a bonus. 0900 was too late by the time we had finished the morning was over. However, I would certainly stay again.

Everything was perfect, the staff were so lovely and made us feel so at home. The first night we arrived very late for the booking, we arrived at 10 pm, as this stay wasn't planned and was a last-minute decision. Yet we were made to feel welcome straight away. The room was gorgeous. We had our breakfast the next day, which was out of this world and massive and kept us going all day. we never ate a thing till 8 pm. we had a small problem with the bath and we were given a bigger much more luxurious room than we'd payed for.

Nothing.

Great experience here. Better than expected Only three rooms but mine was very good. Good size and clean and comfortable. Bed was great with plenty of pillows. Towels and toiletries were excellent. Good size TV and desk area Clean and well presented. Parking is available and secure. Staff were excellent and very welcoming. Breakfast were very good as was the evening meals. Very near town centre or cricket club. Highly recommend

Windows only single glazed some road noise and lots of condensation. Didn't spoil my stay. Would revisit

The room was nice, the bathroom looked like it had been refurbed and was lovely. The bed was comfy and there was plenty of tea and coffee. We had dinner in the pub and the food was lovely. It was very busy but the staff coped really well and were cheerful at all times. They were happy for us to take the remains of our bottle of wine up to the room so we could watch the football - nice not to have a big screen in the bar.

The wifi signal in our room was very poor which was a bit of an issue as we were house-hunting and needed decent access, but it was a bit better in the bar. There was no mirror in the bedroom itself so it was hard to see what I was doing when drying my hair. The road is very noisy but I don't know if there are any rooms at the back. I would however stay again at the price we paid (£50)

Perfect for our overnight stay. good size room. comfortable bed. good shower. evening meal and breakfast next morning very good. but noticed they don't start serving cooked breakfast until 9am was nearly 10am when we got ours could have done with it a bit earlier but they do offer a continental one before 9am if you like those.

Other than the timing of the breakfast everything else was ideal. would definitely stay again

Everything . Landlady rearranged my booking as my Auntie passed away before the date I'd booked for even though I had booked a nonrefundable room. So I was able to stay the night before funeral. The room was brilliant for myself my daughter and granddaughter. Breakfast was included in the price . It was freshly cooked to order and tasted amazing. Would recommend staying here to anybody. Will definitely return at some point . Thank you 😊

Excellent place to stay, with a lovely big room and en suite. Staff were very pleasant at all times, and in the bar was able to have a drink and have a lovely meal too. After a long drive to get here, I just wanted a place to relax.

The soup I was wasn't very hot, so had make a complaint. This was rectified, and I was happy. Heating in room didn't seem to be very high, so room felt abit cold in the morning. Was no breakfast available for this time of year in the week, if this was changed this would be a bonus
