Best Western Lord Haldon Hotel

Beautiful location and grounds. Friendly staff. Lovely chips served in the bar. Lovely spacious room and bathroom. Despite the flaws mentioned above it was clear that the staff had tried to think of everything e.g. Two fans in the room. Generous supply of tea, coffee, milk, shampoo and shower gel. We are very likely to stay again.

Very hot in bedroom and first floor corridor (although cool downstairs) but they did provide two fans in the room. Whilst moving the bedside table in order to plug the beside light in I noticed it was quite dusty behind it (otherwise very clean). There was a very loud extractor fan outside our room (but it did switch off about 10pm and was barely audible with the window shut (it was too hot in the room so we needed the window open))

I love this place! The staff are superb, from the lovely friendly cleaner to Paco the Hotel Manager, they all do an excellent job to make your stay as good as possible. The place is in the most beautiful location, and yes, it is not luxe - which means I can afford to stay here whilst doing floristry courses at the British Academy of Floral Art, just up the road. Every time I come here it feels welcoming and comforting.

The price does reflect that this isn't a high-luxe hotel. So please be aware of that and appreciate what it is! They work extremely hard to ensure everything is clean, neat and comfortable.

Great location with a quiet room and a nice view over the fields. Good selection to choose from of freshly cooked food - particularly enjoyed the breakfast. All staff very helpful and friendly during our stay.

Although a nice room with a view it was a little outdated decoration wise. No air con so a bit warm at night even with the window wide open.

Staff couldn’t do more to help and the hotel is located in beautiful grounds. There was a wedding on the weekend we stayed and I do feel that the wedding party took priority over other guests.

The decor was a little dated, but that certainly didn’t affect our enjoyment.

The staff are all very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was extensive. The hotel has a pleasant bar, lounge rooms and restaurant. The setting and the views are great.

We had Continental breakfast, which was OK, however I think we were charged for cooked breakfast. Location was lovely, but not easy to get to due to it's remoteness and narrow roads.

Sound proofing. It was quite noisy at night with doors slamming.

Stayed at this hotel for one night before continuing on to Cornwall. It's set in beautiful countryside with fabulous views. The hotel is nice and clean, and our bedroom was very spacious with a lovely comfortable bed. The bathroom is all white marble and very modern. A real pleasure too use. Our evening meal was very nice, breakfast was excellent. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. I would use this hotel again for one or two nights.

The only downside was a guest with two dogs who allowed them to jump up and lie on the velour covered seating leaving dog hair all over the furniture. The owner should know better. Didn't spoil our stay though, just found it annoying.

The situation of the hotel in the country was great. Staff very helpful. Food choice at breakfast was very good (didn't have evening meal)

No complaints

After a hair raising last few miles in beautiful countryside you alight at this historic country pile. Plenty of parking.The staff are multitasking and really fast- thank God for cheerful, conscientious foreign waiters.This would be suitable for a big family gathering as you have everything on hand, and it is photogenic as well for those holiday snaps. We staid one night en route to the ferry in Plymouth, but you could go for walks (dog friendly) and see the National Trust properties nearby.

The only issue is the approach roads. You have to hope that there is no other car coming in the opposite direction. I would not want to do this in the dark, but then you don't need to as the meal on site was very good and there is a lovely garden and a lovely bar.

The property is set in beautiful grounds in deep countryside. There are tables, benches and chairs on a beautifully kept lawn with herbaceous borders and a terrace outside the bar. Drinks and meals were available at almost any time. The room was a good size with excellent facilities. For the most part staff were attentive and friendly.

Finding the hotel by car is difficult as the postcode takes one to the rear entrance, suitable only for off-reading vehicles. More could be done on the booking form to explain. The narrow winding roads are not for the faint hearted. We had visited the property some years ago and what tempted us back was the wonderful restaurant/breakfast. This visit was a great disappointment in that department. One night my wife ordered the salmon salad (£20) and received a good sized hot salmon fillet but on just a bed of leaves, nothing else at all. The food was well cooked but very pricey for what one got. The continental breakfast at £9.95 had nothing special to offer and the day I ordered toast only I was charged the £13.95 price of a full cooked breakfast. Disappointing.
