Avon Gorge by Hotel du Vin

Fantastic location- quiet but still conveniently located for local restaurants and a short taxi ride into the city centre with uber cars easily and quickly available. The staff were all brilliant- friendly and helpful and the service was slick, from check in, at the bar, at breakfast. Breakfast was probably the best hotel breakfast I have ever had, with a great selection, very quick service and everything of top quality, well cooked and served piping hot. Our room, overlooking the gorge at the rear of the hotel was spacious, comfortable and well equipped with everything we might need. Even though there was a wedding taking place on evening we didn’t hear a sound from the function or from other guests. we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

The room heating controls were a little hit and miss, but we did manage to get the room to maintain a comfortable temperature. The carpets in the hallways and to a lesser extent our room had seen better days but this feels like a very minor issue when everything else is taken into consideration.

Very large room with a view overlooking the bridge. The bed was lovely and comfortable and the shower was great too! The breakfast was delicious and there was so much choice.

Aircon kept turning itself off at night, and due to triple glazing and heavy duvet, I was really hot all night. We were there having just got married earlier that day, and aside from a lovely warm welcome and rose petals on the bed, the staff didn't do anything else to go the extra mile for us. We had champagne in our room which a friend brought, but it would have been nice to have a little message at breakfast from the staff or just an little added touch, given it was such a special occasion for us.

This was our second stay at the Avon Gorge, I first stayed there in 2018. It was just as good as we remember. Everything is high quality from the tea/ coffee provided to the L'Occitane products in the bathroom. This time we stayed in a 'cost room' which was still a very decent size. The bed was very large and extremely comfy and we had a great sleep. The breakfast is phenomenal and very worth the price. We had a lovely view across the rainy Gorge with our breakfast which was very relaxing. There was a huge variety and everything was incredibly tasty. 10/10.

Nothing, it was an excellent stay.

Location is superb. We had a room overlooking the bridge which would have benefited from a bigger window but fully understand why this isn't possible. An easy walk to all of the local sights and into Clifton village with its huge selection of bars, eateries and quirky shops. Arrived late back but the girl serving in the residents bar was so helpful and accommodating it finished our night off superbly (sorry I didn't get her name!).

Pillows soft and bed sheet barely fitted the mattress (covered but didn't tuck in) but neither bothered us that much that I felt the need to complain.

We booked a “Cosy” room (hotel’s description), for the one night we were staying at the hotel, and we were expecting Cosy to mean small - wrong! The room was excellent for our needs and had all the amenities we would expect, and was plenty big enough. We would certainly stay there again - we know Bristol but had not stayed at this hotel before now. The location and the view are marvellous, and the staff and amenities are great.

Parking is always tricky in this part of Bristol, but we knew that before we went, and the hotel sorted it for us. The repeated emails asking if we wanted to upgrade our room (we didn’t) were annoying, and set expectations - maybe deliberately, so they could be exceeded, that’s marketing for you - as to how the room might be (there were no pictures of our room that we could find online).

We had the signature suite, other than a small bottle of still and sparkling water nothing else was complimentary in the room. The room felt quite dark. It was a birthday stay, other than a little postcard this was not acknowledged. We almost didn't get dinner, even though we were half board, as reception messed up and tried to book us in, from what we later found out, for a time when the restaurant finishes service.

The welcome was wonderful and the view from the bar is second to none. My one 'tip' would be if you book a cosy room expect to walk a little way before you find it ;) I mean that in a lovely way because the room was wonderful, cosy, deliciously comfortable bed and superb bathroom. Even though the room is on the ground level you wouldn't know as it's so quite.

The RINGO parking app not working in correspondence with the Pay By Phone device outside the Hotel. It didn't recognise the location code; (that's happened in other locations too). We were lucky to be given a 'pass' from the Hotel which was very welcomed.

Brilliant location in the heart of Clifton. Room was extremely well appointed and stylish with comfortable Bed, crisp Linen, lovely en-suite and a view over the River. Breakfast was excellent and freshly prepared and the view of the Clifton suspension bridge from the Dining room was stunning. The staff were extremely professional and attentive. Really enjoyed our stay, thank you.

I did struggle a little to operate the air conditioning/heating. My only real issue was that the mattress stood proud of the headboard resulting in the pillows sliding behind the mattress - a definite design error.

Room was large and a good location for a pet- Easy access to the street outside. We previously stayed within the hotel and much preferred the room just off the street as much easier with a pet. The bath was very relaxing!

Everything was great but there was no dog bed set up (but the staff member very quickly got this for us) and the toilet needed flushing when we arrived as it was dirty (may be due to plumbing system as when you flushed the water ran for a long time and didn't seem to work fully). Otherwise room and facilities were excellent.

Loved the breakfast room, full of light and beautiful views over the Gorge in the morning. The staff were friendly, but professional, and breakfast was good. The interior of the hotel is designed well, dramatic colour schemes which really work, but at same time it’s comfortable too. Particularly enjoyed the bar area with its stunning views over the Gorge at night. The bedrooms were very simple, but tastefully furnished, classic/modern design bathroom with some period pieces in the bedroom, a nice nod to the history of the building.
