Our family stayed at Lys-na-Greyne (Aboyne) in early July and had a truly wonderful time.  Joyce and Gary were impeccable, attentive and kind.  The house, the garden and setting are gorgeous.  It’s right on the River Dee so you can walk into town for dinner along the river bank.  Breakfasts are spectacular, with everything hand-made and locally-sourced.  Gary even makes his own jams.  The rooms are large and well-appointed: everything is tasteful and well thought-out.  If you want a holiday in Scotland, this is the place to stay.  Lys-na-Greyne should be the gold standard against which all other hotels and B+B’s are measured.

The house was lovely historic with spacious beautifully decorated rooms; the location was perfect and ideallic, being very quiet and overlooking the river. The hosts were lovely, friendly and provided a level of hospitality that I've not experienced for a long time. I am very much looking forward to going back! Oh yes, and the breakfast with locally sourced ingredients was wonderful.

What an amazing find! This beautifully designed and decorated anciet Villa offers you everything you need for a relaxing gateway! Upon our arrival we were welcomed by Joyce, the incredible host of this amazing place, with hot tea and a delicious cake. Our room was super comfy and clean, the bed one of the best ever tried in a hotel: we slept like babies! and what a view it offers! Breakfast was spot on, with plenty of choices. We would’ve loved to stay one more night and we’d definitely come back.

Everything was absolutely exceptional. We were blown away by the warm hospitality we received. The room and lounge areas were spotless and comfortable. The breakfast was more than generous. We had the loveliest, luxury, stay and would not hesitate to return. Thank you so much to Joyce for the kindness in welcoming us to your beautiful home.

Absolutely nothing negative to say - we only wish we could've stayed longer!

We had a lovely time at the beautiful property. From the Egyptian cotton linen, to coffee and cake every evening to the box of luxury chocolates and the homemade jams and locally sourced produce, Joyce and Garry's attention to detail and warmth made our stay a memorable one. The house, the garden, the food and hospitality, more than 5 stars in every way. Couldn't recommend this "hidden-gem" enough.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed with Joyce and Garry for 2 nights and we both concluded we if we could, hopefully - we'd be back every year. The whole experience was relaxing, comfortable, luxurious and just a beautiful treat. Highlights were the breakfast (we were full for the whole day) and the best bathroom and shower in our room. Joyce and Garry were also so helpful with recommendations about anything and everything -they know the area so well and couldn't have made the stay not only at the bnb but in the area more enjoyable. We miss it already!

Wonderful welcome with tea and homemade gingerbread in the beautiful lounge. Fabulous views over the River Dee and countryside. All the China was Royal Doulton and cut glass crystal too. Breakfast was superb, never tasted such delicious sausages. On the second night we had a ploughman's platter in the dining room. Table was beautifully set, even with a candle. Lovely touches which made us feel very special. Our room was great with a very comfy bed and lovely shower.

That's a very tricky question as it was all so great. The house was slightly difficult to find as we approached from one direction down the long road and missed the sign. Not easy to resolve as there is another house on the corner.

The welcome. The overall accommodation, especially the chandeliers, the table silver wear, the decor, drinks in room, the quality of breakfasts and platters, the jams and marmalades and the very attentive and charming hosts.

Ideally, for an ageing pair, a ground floor room is the ideal, but understood fully that such accommodation was not an option.

Our whole experience staying in Lys-Na-Greyne was excellent. Our hosts were very welcoming. The property was absolutely beautiful, very clean, with a lovely dining room, sitting room and outside seating area, which we had full use off during our stay, The property had lovely view of the hills, the river and the surrounding area. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to all travellers.

Joyce was Garry are fantastic hosts - our stay was a five star experience from beginning to end, but with a hugely personal touch due to the intimacy of the guesthouse. Breakfast was a particular highlight. Joyce advised us well on nearby hiking, and the bed was impressively comfortable. My friend and I had exactly the break we envisaged - lots of walking, lots of rest and lots of healthy food!
