Els Jardins De La Martana

Very comfortable and homely, we stayed a week an were invited to treat the place as our home. The hostess Montse was very helpful and friendly. We were caught up in a heavy rainstorm and could not easily leave the premises one evenig - she rustled up a bread ham and cheese supper, even finding some wine. The location is good for the village - just cross the old bridge. Good base for seeing the general area. 40 minutes to the coast and some great hill country (la Garrotxa) just close. There are good cycling options in Olot, with many green ways. Terrific restaurant at the other end of the bridge which is Michelin starred, yet prices were just as you might pay in any ordinary restaurant at home (UK). And the wine prices were super reasonable.

The shower in room1 flooded the floor unless you were very careful - this is being renovated over the winter we understand

Exceptional staff from multilingual receptionist to housekeeping and maintenance. Staff we always pleased to make a travellers life easier.location meant that we could always visit the towns historical centre before and after the day-tripper hoards arrived. Also great location to visit surrounding areas ,lakes and volcanic area with interesting food. Felt we were looked after as part of a team.

This property was maybe about 100 years old and whist the drawing room and library were wonderful the upper patio area floor area could do with repainting especially as this area was great for eating breakfast and viewing the adjacent hills. Notwithstanding this it did not spoil the experience.

The hotel is in a charming 200 years old building and the owner has kept much of the old decor which brings a lot of character to this place. Excellent location just next to the old bridge to the village. Basic, but really good breakfast, definitely worth the few extra euros to have it included. Staff was very friendly and made us feel very welcomed. Considering it is an old house it has it’s old house things; you can hear people through the walls and the plumbing makes some noice. Just something to consider if you are a light sleeper. Me however, enjoyed waking up hearing the birds singing just outside. It is in the country side so there is no noise from the street like cars etc. I would definitely stay here again.

Nothing not to like really. No lift upstairs so if you struggle with stairs or have very heavy luggage it might be difficult but the hosts are there to help with cases. We booked a massage and my friend and I felt that the masseuse was a little inexperienced (lacking in knowing pressure / relaxation points, hand strength, modesty practices for the client) but she was very nice and overall it was fine.

Els Jardins de la Martina is in a fantastic location overlooking Pont Vell and the village of Besalu. There is free car parking at the door. In extremely hot weather we were very grateful to have very efficient air-conditioning in our room. The breakfast was exceptionally good and the staff serving breakfast very friendly, helpful and attentive. Most of the staff spoke English. Our room was very spacious.

If we had been staying longer than one night the narrow staircase would have been a problem with suitcases. We just packed a small bag and left our cases in our car. No luggage rack in the room would also be a problem if you had suitcases although lack of luggage racks seems to be common in Spain. Also wardrobe space and desk space would have been inadequate for a longer stay but OK for one night.

The breakfast was as good as any you’d expect in a fine hotel The location right next to the medieval bridge was lovely The best part is the staff. The very nice lady who checked me in also gave me a tour of the property which was above and beyond expectations. My room afforded a view of the bridge, which was a real plus. Eating breakfast on an outside terrace overlooking the town and it’s bridge was very special.

Cannot say enough good things! Absolutely loved this hotel. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Location at the foot of the iconic bridge is unbeatable. Hotel retains the character and beauty of the original house while providing modern comforts like coffee and mini bar in the room. Free parking is the cherry on top!

The building has a lot of character, having been a house in the past. Rooms is spacious and has everything you need. Location is fantastic, as it’s only a few meters from the historic bridge. Staff is incredible, always happy to help. There is also a regular guest, a black cat who is very affectionate.

My stay was mid- week therefore there weren’t that many options to eat. There was just one restaurant open in the evening in the whole town.

I loved that I could just walk around the whole property , the library, the sitting room, terraces, garden. Just stunning! My room had a great view of the famous bridge. The bed and pillows where perfect. Our room had a sofa, coffee maker (really good coffee), nice size room and bathroom. Breakfast was good you can eat it inside or on one of the terraces. Not to mention all day free coffee and tea :). The place is pet friendly, which my dog really enjoyed... Oh and last, but not least the staff is amazing! Made us feel right at home...

Location. Location. Location. The setting and the modernisation didn't clash as they often do. The staff were unbelievably approachable.

I know it's rural Spain but that lovely garden is wasted when the cafe.bar and restaurant close so early. It means eating and drinking in one of the more down-market options outside the old town. Also. There was no hot food at breakfast and limited choice but the quality was high.
