Vander Urbani Resort - a Member of Design Hotels

The truly special à la carte breakfast was in a cozy setting (get one of the window banquettes for two if you can!) and had many selections for all levels of taste and diet (or not). The breakfast food was absolutely amazing and generous, and the service was outstanding. We loved receiving a free welcome drink at the bar; our corner room had lovely views of the river and we appreciated all the options for shading (using the electric curtains). The mattress and bedding was exceptionally comfortable, and the carpeting was soft, clean and had a luxe feel. We felt very coddled and hidden away in the room; It was all very comfy and in person it's more classic in feel than in the photos (which made the rooms look a bit too trendy for our taste). The staff was helpful and responsive with a few special requests.

It would be well worth an additional investment in a bit of engineering magic to have the pool heated properly so guests can really, really enjoy the experience of staying in a hotel (all year around) with such an amazing infinity rooftop pool overlooking that view! We'd pay big(ger) bucks to have a heated pool (and dry sauna!) in the upstairs pool area, which would motivate a stay in colder times. It was truly a shame that we still couldn't enjoy the pool in the late springtime. The only other issue would only affect those who may be extremely sensitive to noise; we stayed over a Saturday night and there was a lot of party/noise along the river/river-walk. It wasn't a deal-breaker for us (we use earplugs) but for someone very sensitive to outside noise, it's something to consider.

The location of the hotel is incredible - don't think words can describe how ideal the location of this hotel is. It it situated right in the heart of the city centre and right on the river as well. Every possible place you might want to visit in the city, you can get there on foot in 15 minutes max from the hotel - couldn't have picked somewhere better to stay location-wise. The hotel itself was also amazing, we were so glad to have the rooftop pool as it was really hot whilst we were there - poolside towels were available to use, separate to your own hotel-room bathroom towels, which was great! Our room was lovely and clean also, couldn't fault it. The wifi is really strong. On arrival you are offered to join the hotel and its residents for a free welcome drink too, a lovely touch. Finally the staff were so lovely! They organised our taxi back to the airport for us, and advise us on the best way to travel to Lake Bled as well, looking everything up for us. There was always someone at the front desk smiling and readily waiting to help you out.

The pool area is a combined area which is also used as event and meeting area. Accordingly the pool was closed most of the time due to meetings or private events. Luckily, it was quite cold so we didn’t really want to use the pool, but still if it had been warmer it would’ve been very frustrating to have no access to the pool. Also, there was no announcement anywhere in the hotel if there was a private meeting or gathering so we stumbled twice into such events which may have also been annoying for the people there.

The hotel is beautifully located right by the water in the old town. You couldn't ask for a better spot in Ljubljana. The staff are super friendly, but the hotel's best quality by far is the breakfast which is pretty fantastic. The crepes were so good. Overall value for money is strong.

Nothing to dislike per se, but the rooms are a touch on the small side, the TV strangely comes on automatically whenever you enter, and bathroom setup is a little strange. Also the rooms get hot so it's necessary to sleep with a window open, but the noise from the street (even at midnight on a Monday) can be pretty loud.

The location is very good. Breakfast was cook to order, and they had enough choices. Bed was very comfortable. Staff at front desk was helpful and friendly.

2 of the 3 windows had broken latches. Parking is quite a walk away, but we knew that going in. We felt the price for the river view room was too much for the view we had - especially with broken window latches and no balcony, it was hard to actually look outside. The room had an odd layout and style - all modern with worn brown leather chairs. It's still a good place to stay though.

very unfriendly staff in the restaurant. we were invited by the reception for the welcome drink between 16.00 and 18.00h. When we asked at 17.15h we were told by the restaurant/Bar staff thast they were busy with preparing Dinner and let us stand by our own. I suggest better not to offer a welcome drink. Of course we had no dinner in that Restaurant even it was our plan

We loved our stay at Vander. The staff could not do enough for us! The breakfast was 1st class - there were a couple days we were unable to have breakfast due to trips so staff provided us with a breakfast box- excellent service! We will definitely return to this hotel. It was my husband’s birthday when we stayed - the hotel chef provided a lovely dessert for a birthday treat- it was such a lovely touch and so much appreciated! Added bonus was the rooftop pool!

Everything was just perfect!

Location, location, location! This was perfect! On the river in one direction and equally close to the streets of the Old Town in the other direction – Prešeren Square, Triple Bridge, markets, Dragon Bridge, Cathedral, shops and plenty of restaurants were all readily available. Arriving at the train station, it was an easy 20 minute walk to the hotel, though the suitcase didn’t much like the cobblestoned streets! Still, a small price to pay for the beauty of the gorgeous city! The room was lovely, but very small. Fortunately, I was travelling alone, but even then, more space would have been appreciated! There really wasn’t anywhere to put your suitcase except the bed or the floor, but there was plenty of hanging and storage space in the cupboards. What I loved about the room was the fact that there were two big windows that totally opened to the outside, so plenty of fresh air. The downside (which I actually liked!) was the outside noise – this was a high pedestrian area and the nightly noise went on till after midnight most nights! The bed was super comfortable! Breakfast was included in the room rate, but it didn’t start until 8am. I had a slightly earlier start going to Lake Bled on one day of my stay and arranging a slightly earlier breakfast wasn’t possible. Breakfast, though, was lovely – a choice from a limited menu, with fresh bread, pastries and jam. Tea, coffee, juice and smoothies were also offered. Despite the smallness of the room, the location next to everything in the area, compensated!

The bathroom had the windowed walls with curtains to cover if other guests are also occupying the room. The bathroom was incredibly small which I didn’t like – certainly would have been difficult to get changed in there if more than one occupied the room. Though there were plenty of towels, there was only one knob where one towel could hang, otherwise space had to be found somewhere in the bedroom (this was not easy). Soap and a pump bottle of body wash/shampoo was provided until the final day when smaller bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion were also left.

The rooftop pool was great, perfect on the sunny afternoons! The staff were all very friendly and I thought it was a lovely hotel! The breakfast was brilliant and very filling. We ate at the restaurant one evening and the food was great too! Location is fantastic.

We could hear music in our room (I think coming from the restaurant below). Not a major issue.

The swimming pool is fantastic! The breakfast is also fantastic! Good coffee also. Very cool and interesting interiors. The beds are very comfortable, lots of storage space in the room and the shower controller is very easy / modern. TV had a million channels. The hotel is very compact so getting from pool to room to restaurant is easy. Staff are also very friendly and happy to help. Room acoustics are good.

Large laundry bags are left in the hallway which spoils the hotel’s beautiful design.
