Lovely hotel, in an old townhouse in central Leiden but not too central (away from the party boats!), on a fairly quiet side street. Nicely decorated and the most comfortable bed I've slept in in a long time! Self check-in and in-person check-out were both easy.

I would have liked the toiletries to be topped up. I was able to request some more, though, so that was all good. I was on the top floor in room 8, up two flights of very narrow winding stairs, which were fine for me - all part of the lovely historic character! - but might be a challenge for the infirm or those with big suitcases.

Excellent location for exploring Leiden. Very clean and comfortable room. Appreciated small refrigerator for wines, and coffee-making facilities. The availability of breakfast at the hotel is a "plus", very handy on days with a busy travel agenda.

We chose an inner courtyard view thinking it would be quieter with less street noise, but found that a neighboring bar was hosting a King's Day party on their adjacent courtyard. Ex Libris informed us that the bar had promised the very loud "music" would end at 10 PM, and somewhat miraculously, it did. Based on other reviews, we expected the staircase to our first floor room to be narrow and steep, and it was; but carefully lifting suitcases up a couple steps at a time worked OK.

The 20 minute walk from Leiden Central to the hotel is on cobble stone streets that line a canal. People that have large luggage cases might have a hard time navigating here. The hotel is conveniently located next to a popular bar/restaurant, a historic church and a beautifully landscaped botanical garden. My room had a lot of natural lighting and plenty of space to put my things. The owner will work with you if you arrive early and need to store your luggage for a few hours.

The lighting in the back room and bathroom isn't very bright,

Perfect location, peaceful despite it being a very busy student party week, excellent room setup with everything in immaculate condition, great shower and very comfortable bed. The owner and staff were kind and helpful. Especially appreciated the generous supply of Nespresso coffee capsules, the stocked mini bar fridge, and Netflix in both the living room space and at the foot of the bed!

Wifi was superb in the living room space but sometimes erratic in the bedroom space further to the back of the building. The stairs are very steep so people with mobility issues (or big suitcases) would need to ensure they can book a ground floor room (we were on the second floor).

The room was very lovely and cozy. We stayed in a suite which had a little more room and if you’re a couple, I would recommend it. The bathroom was really nice and efficient and the shower had really good Water pressure. If you know about Dutch stairs you’ll be well prepared. We didn’t have too much issue and my husband is in his late 50s and I’m at 40s. Packing large suitcases might make it hard to get up the staircase.

We loved the location of the hotel, the amazing shower and the comfortable bed. The room was large and had everything we needed. We enjoyed a lovely continental breakfast on our first morning; the owner was friendly and welcoming and he was happy for us to leave our luggage in reception after checking out, so that we could continue exploring the city. The hotel is situated in an attractive and quiet, yet central, part of Leiden. We would happily stay there again!

The place is clean, equipped with all necessities (even a wine chiller :) ), within a very nice location of the city, and with a good price for the offered quality. The host was very polite and helpful.

The room is not big, but the space is sufficient. The only downside were the very steep stairs (it is difficult to transport large suitcases up and down). However, this is a very common thing in the Netherlands, and probably many of the other housings have the same problem due to the shortage of land and its maximum utilization. So keep this in mind when packing, but overall I would recommend staying at Ex Libris.

Comfortable and well-appointed room. Excellent position in the old part of the city. Breakfast was available but I did not take it.

The staircase was very steep and twisted and the steps were not wide enough to put your feet on. Of course the house was old, but a more precise indication should have been given to warn clients. There was no clear indication on the website that there was no reception desk and access was by door code given before travel.

it was in a great spot near the centre of town and easy walking distance to the train station. Our room faced the back of the building and was quiet.

although the bed was super comfy the pillows were awful. lumpy and uncomfortable. I did ask if I could have another but the owner said that because it was a small hotel they did not have spares we were only there for 4 nights but I did almost buy a pillow! The stairs up to our room were very steep and trying to get a normal size suitcase up was difficult.

Centrally located; friendly welcome. Very clean room with modern appliances. No street noise at night despite the central location (only church bell every (half) hour during the whole night) . Nespresso coffee machine (coffee free of use). Cooler/fridge with my favourite bottled water at a decent price (€ 4 for 0.75L).

It was very cold in the room upon arrival and took quite some while to warm up with the AC heating system; It looked as if there was a fireplace in the room but it seems it is only decoration. The stairs are very steep and shallow, and especially going down with luggage at hand is a challenge. If you are interested in wine, excellent choices in the room (only large 0.75L bottles) but apparently there is no cork screw, so also only decoration ? :-)
