City Hotel Nieuw Minerva Leiden

Loved everything. It was a lovely spacious clean room with a superb veiw of the canal. It was in a perfect location. We only had to walk out of the door and we were in the middle of all of the sights and activity of leiden. Breakfast was lovely too. Also the overall look and furnishings of the reception was lovely.

It could be a little noisey at night but this was a small price to pay for been in such a busy location close to all the restraunts. However leiden was probably a lot busier than usual due to the hot weather and time of year so noise is to be expected. I always take earplugs when going away so it wasnt too much of a problem.

Pro - excellent location, very helpful staff, spacious room, very comfortable bed. Overall, it's a charming, canal-side hotel near to bars and restaurants and close to the main shopping streets. The train and bus stations are a short, 10 minute walk away. The number 854 bus goes direct to the Keukenhof gardens (book both in advance!). Near the hotel is the wonderful Hortus Botanicus botanical garden.

Con - our room was on second floor up two flights of stairs (no lift), room was a bit spartan, and view is only of fire escapes in a rear lightwell. There are very few hotels in the heart of this bustling University town.

The bedroom was clean, the location was excellent & the staff friendly and helpful from start to finish.

The noise from the window was incredibly loud and disturbed mine and my friend sleep on both nights. I was also disappointed that the Body wash and shampoo were all in one… for the price of the hotel I would have expected more I think! As an aside - the company we ordered a taxi with (recommended by the hotel) did not come through! Brought this up to staff and they were helpful and understanding…

Perfectly located in the middle of town, facing one of the main canals. Staff was nice, they offer quite a good discount on the city parking place (10 mins walk, 13.5 euro/day vs 21 full price)

Quite expensive but that I guess is the price for staying in downtown Leiden. Breakfast also was quite pricey, so we did not take it. Hotel is nice but rooms are a bit old, creaky and somehow smelly but again that's what you get to lodge in a typical old Dutch house, so it is not a complain, just a warning so expectations are clear!

Optimal location to explore Leiden; ca 15 min walk from central station. Rooms are large and comfortable, but accessible via steep stairs only. Friendly staff available throughout the day. Breakfast worth its cost compared to alternatves. Possibilities to come together in the lobby and a bar, even without need to consume drinks.

Furniture was dusty despite every day cleaning service...

stayed here when our flight was delayed 48 hours and couldn’t believe our luck. absolutely loved this charming and authentic boutique hotel. we stayed in room 41 in the garret which had exposed beams and an amazing view. simple facilities in the bathroom but very clean. staff were so warm, welcoming and helpful. lobby and bar is wonderful. check out the Goeie Mie gin company on the ground floor — amazing story, delicious drinks!!

Location was excellent with very comfortable beds staff gave us a warm welcome we had a very quirky attic room which was huge

We opted to have breakfast at an additional cost of €15 euros each which was poor value - choice not great and chef was surly and spent 10 minutes tidying cups - we had to interrupt his task to get a cup !

It’s an old hotel right next to the canal with nice bars and pretty streets. The desk staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English. It’s also not a long walk from the railway station.

Our room was a good size but a little dark.

Room very comfortable and quiet. Breakfast enjoyable and varied. Location superb---right in centre of Leiden. Staff all friendly, especially with regard to help in storing our three bikes overnight. Would certainly return

Lot of staircases and no telephone to contact reception.. was going up and down for few things .
