G Hotel Gurney

Good location

Air-conditioning in the room was too cold. Room temperature couldn’t be adjusted despite having a temperature controller. Shower area not completely enclosed; bath water leaks onto the toilet floor during showers. Other than above, the room was great.

Location is superb.

Room seemed old although the hotel was recently reopened after renovations. Room on the 5th floor was noisy from the renovation works at the ground floor

We like the room - it’s very spacious and we can leave both our medium size luggage opened and still have ample walking space. The location is another plus point for us. It is convenient as there is a mall attached to the property and another just a few steps away. It will be nicer if our family managed to experience the stay in the XL room which I was told that was sold out. So we had to book 2 separate rooms as we are a family of 5. But the checking-in staff was very helpful. He assigned both our rooms right next to each other. The reason we had to book 2 separate rooms was because we were told that this hotel doesn’t come with a connecting room. The XL room (similar to a 2-bed suite) is limited. So, this is another aspect for the management to consider as families and group of friends traveling together usually prefer connecting rooms.

Expected the tables to be wiped and floor vacuumed. However, this did not happen throughout our 6 nights’ stay as I had spilled some coffee on the side table & it has been left there till I checked out. Towels and bed linens look old and yellowish - not something a 5-star hotel will typically provide. So, will be nice for the management to invest on these to uphold the 5-star standing.

Close to shopping malls and restaurants. Bed was very comfortable with an excellent choice of pillows (high/low, soft/med/firm). Breakfast was very good. The mini bar in the room contains free soft drinks and chocolate bars. Bottled water is also free and replenished daily. Service was excellent. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I had to borrow or hire a wheelchair for my elderly mum who cannot walk. Hotel was able to provide one free of charge. On my last day, I had to check out very early in the morning to go to the airport. The hotel provided me a breakfast box to take with me to the airport!

The color scheme in the newly renovated hotel is not my taste! I was very disappointed. It has the same dark colour scheme as the G Hotel Kelawei. For a 5-star hotel, everything or every room in the hotel is so dark! The place looks dull and boring. The rooms or corridor could do with some brightly coloured paintings or pictures. It will be useful to add mirrors too in the lifts. The reception lobby is now on the 3rd floor. It used to be on the spacious ground floor. The lighting in the bathroom is too dim for my wife to do her makeup.

Staff aimed to please at all times.

I had a suite with a bath in the bathroom. The salts had gone hard from non-use. There was no shower or bath gel available with the bath. They were attached to the wall in the shower, so I couldn't use these. I had travelled a long way and my suitcase was lost so I had nothing. That was a little disappointing given I paid for a luxury suite. The meal I ordered for room service was amazing until I hit the cold spot. 🥶 they apologised and insisted I take something else. I did...cheese cake. It really was amazing. Almost frozen in the middle so I'm not surprised there was difficulty heating the lasagne. Clearly fridge was exceptionally cold. Other than a female touch or smell in the rooms, it was great. There was a real masculine feel to the room.

Amazing hotel with amazing facilities. Great location and great concierge.

Check in process was okay. Staff at the front desk had some attitude going on idk why... 4 cups of complementary ice cream were placed in a dirty moldy tray even though there were 6 of us in total during check in and we booked 3 rooms for 6 pax. And she told us that breakfast was $30 and when we went to go have breakfast the next day the price increased to $84. Miscommunication there somewhere. Other than that very nice hotel.

1. if there is a bath tub, it would be great to be able to soak in after walking around the whole day in George Town 2. Seems to have a staff shortage issue at the restaurant 168, empty plates were slow to clear, chefs were manning 2 or more stations (but they make up for the dissatisfaction in services with great smiles and patience) 3. Was expecting at least a sauna in a such a classy hotel.

Large and clean rooms, fantastic location. Doctor on call service mad a lot of difference in curing the food poisoning picked up on the way.

The staff at the entrance were rude in not giving our tour coach enough time to unload luggage at the entrance. We were forced to drag our luggage up from the road across the hotel. When we were picked up by our coach on check out, again he did not give enough time for the coach to wait at the entrance for the guests (despite it being first thing in the morning when the entrance was very quiet).

The staffs are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is just beside Gurney Plaza shopping mall, there is a supermarket in the basement. Great swimming pool, not for training but good for relax and short distance swim. Mini bar fridge is refillable daily basic. The receptionist is located at level 3 to provide more secure and personal touch service.

The shower area, the gradient is not slope enough to drain off the water after showered hence tends to have some water ponding at the other end which also the entrance to shower area.

the room is spacious and the amenties are great. the room cleaning staffs are all very friendly and polite. the FOC mini bar is a plus point. the wifi connection is stable and fast. the location is very convenient, near to both shopping malls.

the breakfast is good but can be better. the fried kuey tiao is abit tasteless and roti prata always not available during my 3 night stays. the toilet condition need to upgrade, the floorings seem very old. the room key is abit hard to use when using lift, the sensor of one of the lift is not sensitive enough to detect.
