East Indies Mansion

Ai Tee and her team went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. We were pleasantly surprised by such warmth and high level of commotment to make us feel welcomed. Thank you !

We knew that parking will be a problem but we wanted to stay in a heritage place with history rather that the usual hotels. Small inconveniece but the staff helped us in securinga nearby parking and it was inexpensive

It's nice and calm environment. The mansion is located in the Little India. You can reach most of famous restaurants, sightseeing and jetties easily. The staff were super welcoming and helpful. We got many usual information from them and they also offered some local sweet to us and let us try out. The room was cozy and comfortable.

The property is well located within the heritage old town. It’s very easy and convenient to find somewhere to eat or just enjoy. The staff are just wonderful. Ai Tee and Kanmani are always available and always willing to help or advise with a smile. Nothing is ever too much for them. They also have a partnership with a very knowledgeable tour guide called Joann. She will help you to know Georgetown with great details as you arrive. The rooms and the property itself is always impeccably clean. The property itself is a heritage Chinese mansion and this is itself a good enough reason to visit East Indies mansions. We enjoyed the breakfast on a couple of mornings and they were great. They offered local dishes and explained what they were, their origin or importance in the local community. We also felt immediately welcomed by an afternoon tea and a delicious nutmeg juice. Not only will we go there again when we visit Penang again, I will also make sure I recommend east India mansions to my friends, colleagues and clients.

Everything was perfect

The hotel was an oasis of relaxation and peacefullness in the middle of the historical chaotic and noisy India and chinatown. The decor gives almost a zen like idylic surrounding with water and plant features. The service at the hotel is personalised to the guests and they provided good suggestions on what to visit - they go over and above normal service as a family member needed a blouse made , and the receptionist found one nearby so very pleased. Breakfasts were changed every day we were there to allow guests to sample different cuisines, vegetarian option provided. The rooom was very spacious for 3 people but there is steps to the toilet so maybe not ideal for older persons with mobility issues.

The best staff in the world, attentive and kind but also self confident and funny. They made our stay amazing and made us feel at home. Very professional and genuine people. Keep it up!!! Fantastic local breakfasts served fresh to the table! The location is perfect, it’s walking distance to anything in Georgetown. The room was spotless clean, free unlimited water and little snacks is a nice touch. The hotel is small and very nicely decorated.

The downside is poor sound isolation, though at night it was very quiet. Our room, despite it was spacious, had no window, which is a bit weird. It did not disturb as much as we only slept there anyway.

East Indies Mansion is a beautifully restored boutique hotel. Perfect if you don't want to stay in a modern, sterile, cookie-cutter type hotel. It is peaceful and quiet and you can enjoy and appreciate the beautiful historical architecture. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I loved the delicious afternoon samosas! And they were very welcoming when my daughter came to visit for an afternoon, even bringing us snacks and cold drinks to share with her. It's also well located in walking distance to food street stalls, cafes etc

Not much to fault except it would be nice to have a small fridge in the room to store some cold drinks. You can use the fridge in the kitchen but that's not so useful in the middle of the night or when you're relaxing in your room. Mosquitos in the room were an issue partly due to gaps in the walls where they can come in from the internal courtyard and even with the sprays and plug-ins they kept me awake for a few nights.

I enjoyed my four nights in George Town so much more than I would have because I decided to stay at the East Indies Mansion. My room was extremely comfortable and I truly felt like I was staying in a mansion. Each morning a beautiful breakfast was prepared, as well as a lovely afternoon tea. There are plenty of places in the mansion to relax, but the room also has sufficient space to relax in as well. The entire staff were welcoming and helpful and were prepared to offer any assistance in helping me to discover the best of George Town. I am looking forward to returning to stay at the East Indies Mansion the next time I am in George Town.

I had to go back on my pre booked flight otherwise I would have stayed longer!

We have been traveling around Malaysia for 2 weeks, and this was the best hotel of all. The staff is friendly and helpful. They gave us a lot of information about the city, places to visit, and even a list of vegetarian restaurants :) The place is amazing. Restored old Chinese house from 1800, the atmosphere is relaxed with beautiful decoration. You have everything you need in your room plus, the bed is super comfy. We will come back for sure!

A small suggestion: You can be more eco-friendly if don’t turn on the AC and lights when you clean the room.

The mansion is beautifully restored. The hotel manager AiTee is extremely friendly an helpful. Her recommendation of places to eat are all very good. The room is large and clean. The welcome drink is very refreshing in hot weather.

The warmth of greeting was exceptional. We were made to feel very at home. The accommodation, in a restored Chinese mansion, captured the history of the house whilst providing a comfortable and relaxing place to return to. The room was spacious and kept very clean during our stay. There was exceptional attention to detail from Ai Tee, whose friendliness, advice and afternoon tea treats made our stay memorable. The location of the hotel is great for exploring Georgetown and surrounding area and there are many places to eat nearby. We will definitely return to this hotel when we are in penang again.
