Palazzo Del Duca Luxury Hotel & Restaurant

We came for one night only and stayed two and wish we could have stayed a whole week instead. That's because Matera deserves it and because the hotel was excellent. The concept of Albergo Diffuso (widespread hotel) is lovely - no corridors! Yay! Our room entrance was secluded and quiet and our bed super comfy. Breakfast was nice and we had dinner one evening and both were of good quality. The location couldn't better with great views and near most attractions in Matera. Definitely going back and dragging friends with me! Cherry on top: we got to watch the latest 007 movie in Matera, which was magical. From the real thing into the movie and back to the real thing at the end of it.

There was nothing that we didn't like about this place. If anyone dare to complain about the steps up and down Matera then you did not understand the experience.

Wow! We booked a suite with terrace and the view from our private terrace was unbelievable with views over the Sassi and the caves. The room was very spacious, gorgeous decor with a roll top bath in the room and a separate bathroom with walk in shower. The staff were very friendly and spoke good English. We used their partner company to park and taxi to the edge of the Sassi where we were greeted by a porter to take our bags and guide us through a short walk in the winding old world to the hotel. They communicated in advance of our arrival to arrange everything! This stay really made our trip and was my favourite part of our holiday. This beautiful city is right outside your door and you’re able to forget about the modern world the entire time. 10/10 thank you!

Beautiful room. It is important to note that some rooms face the street which happen to be the same street that the walking tours use. This can be a bit awkward, as you can see people passing by and people could potentially see you. Having said that, this hotel does offer the opportunity to stay in a converted cave which is what we wanted. We used the car park and transfer which was arranged by the hotel and it worked perfectly and without hassle. Continental breakfast was good. They had a small menu for cooked items (like eggs) which was extra, but reasonably priced.

No coffee making facilities in the room. There were dinner tables set up literally outside the room (103). It’s not a huge issue, but it definitely feels less private.

What an amazing experience! The opportunity to stay in a cave dwelling in the world heritage listed town of Matera. The room was beautifully appointed but still maintained the character of the setting. We stayed in a junior suite which opened directly onto the pathway with magnificent views of the ravine The dining room was also in a cave. We enjoyed a lovely meal in the evening and the next morning our table was set with a feast of pastries, cakes and finger sandwiches. There was also the option to order a cooked breakfast. The staff were very friendly and assisted us carry our luggage up the many stairs to the piazza where we met our taxi.

We only stayed one night.

The room was quirky and right in the centre of Matera. We felt like it was a really unique experience to stay in the cave. The breakfast was all homemade local food and excellent. We appreciated the information sent before our stay to help book the parking.

The wifi didn’t really work. Although we appreciated we were in a cave, the price point of the hotel meant we thought it would be provided. There could also have been a kettle or coffee machine in the room, so we could have coffee at our leisure and not just with breakfast.

Very good location, right in the old part of Matera. Nice ambient, cool rooms, very comfy beds, high-quality beauty products in the bathroom, very beautiful restaurant, staff very helpful and friendly

The hotel cannot be accessed by car. Even when you use the parking & shuttle option recommend by the hotel, the shuttle only arrives at Piazza Duomo, from where you need to carry your luggage for about 6mins and down relatively steep and uneven stairs. The hotel is essentially in a cave, which is very cool, but be ready you won’t get much light in the room. Our room didn’t have bathroom door (only a screen), so it might get slightly uncomfortable. Breakfast a bit confusing, each table gets a pre-arranged selection of sweets - it would be more convenient to have a one common buffet.

Where to start, our stay at Palazzo Del Duca was amazing. Firstly, all of the staff were incredibly friendly and made our stay enjoyable. The location of the hotel couldn't be better with amazing views of Matera on your doorstep. We were lucky to get upgraded to the room with the pool, which was a fantastic treat. We had both breakfast and dinner in the hotel, and both were delicious. For those with a car, they work with a local carpark who will take your car, keep it safe, and drop you off at the hotel. It was such a smooth process. We really loved our stay.

The bedroom was stunning, set in one of Matera’s caves. Lovely large bed and modern bathroom. Great location for access to Matera city and all the sight seeing we wanted to do. We ate at the hotel restaurant one night which was very very good too. Staff could not do enough for us.

Very little - it was exceptionally hot whilst we were there and the AC didn’t seem to chill the room down as much as we would have liked but I’m only being picky really as everything else was great.

Palazzo del Duca was great! The staff was attentive, professional, and customer focused. The room was unique, just as pictured with plenty of little extras like spa quality robes, soaps and lotions, good wifi, and welcome prosecco and local sweets. It was special to stay and eat in the caves. The chef and bar staff were just as fabulous. Spoke English well. Breakfast was European Continental with fresh fruit, pasties, meats and cheeses. The parking was offsite but extremely safe and easy to arrange. Our walk to sites and around the area was easy making the location perfect. I would book this again.

I can't think of anyway to improve our stay.

Clean and spacious. Staff were extremely nice and helpful.

The bathroom is not separated by a door.
