Hôtel Le Galion

Fantastic location, with just a very short walk to the restaurants and bars. The hotel also has a lovely swimming pool, but we didn’t get to use it. Breakfast was extensive and great, sitting outside overlooking the pool. The room was smaller than expected and not fantastically well appointed, but the bed was comfortable.

The bedrooms have no air conditioning and leaving the windows open, meant we had a lot of noise from outside that didn’t subside until the early morning. The room was slightly small and missing a comfortable chair, but perfectly adequate, but not the best value.

Location was excellent. Lovely person at reception. Two comfortable armchairs and table by the bedroom window. Parking was very convenient Kettle :-)

The bathroom was tiny and had a bath, not a shower as I had seen on the pictures, so remember to specify this if you prefer a shower. A shelf above the washbasin would have been useful as there was very little space for toiletries. There is no lift in the hotel. This didn’t bother us but it is worth remembering for those with mobility issues or if carrying heavy luggage

The hotel location was superb, with easy access to the old city. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. Our room was rather petite for two tall people, and it was a little difficult to store everything. The swimming pool and outside dining terrace were very attractive and popular. Breakfast was quite comprehensive, but we were not offered a cooked supplement on our last morning. We were able to park outside the hotel in paid parking and this was definitely a bonus.

We stayed during the recent canicule and slept with the window open to allow some airflow. Unfortunately the window opened above the dining terrace and we were kept awake by noisy patrons enjoying late evening drinks. Breakfast was rather overpriced.

The location was amazing, right on the harbour, ideally situated for going out in the evening but at the same time, not at all noisy at night. Very friendly staff, especially the cleaners. Fabulous views of the sea! Shame there is no lift but they make it very clear before booking that there isn't so no surprises. A code is required to get in the front door after 9pm which is a good safety feature although you do not feel as if it is at all needed. We did not try the bar or food so cannot comment on that. The pool and decking area around it looked lovely, we wished we had time to use it whilst we were there. The underground parking was worth the extra money but beware it is a tight squeeze down there if your car is large.

The bed was too hard for my liking but that is purely a preference. The toilet seat situation was a bit strange. They make it abundantly clear NOT to push it down, that it is soft close and will close itself. However, it takes ages so you either stand there like a lemon and wait for it or flush the toilet and get splash from the flush on your feet, not great!

There was no lift and we were on the 2nd floor, however staff did help us with suitcases so that helped a lot! There was no aircon and the rooms were a bit hot. We couldn't leave the windows open because of the noise from the work being carried out at the harbour which went on till midnight some nights and restarted early in the morning. This was out of the control of the hotel, however more fans for the rooms might be a good idea for the summer, whilst the works are carrying on.

Location was awesome, a great place to stay in Saint-Martin-de-Ré. Overall a really nice hotel, and super friendly/helpful staff. The main reason we booked this hotel was for the car park as we were on a driving holiday and only staying two nights, but was very confused to find next-door's Villa de L'Eclusier which had a pool was actually owned by the same company. So we booked that for the next night so we had a pool, as it happens both have the pool which wasn't obvious on booking.com (in fact I think it's only mentioned in reviews right now). Older photos don't show they've now knocked down a wall, so the two hotels are connected via the pool which makes this hotel far better value for money!

No air-con, not really a complaint since that was listed as such before we booked, but it was 36c outside and I think we had the warmest room I've ever stayed in since it was south facing, but there's no air-con anywhere in this hotel which is a shame so I've not given it a full 10/10 for that reason. Thankfully I'd packed some mini desk fans in my car, which were really needed and the hotel ought to consider fans or a ceiling fan for hot nights. No bar as such, but to be fair they'll deliver you a cold drink or beer on request!

Pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Great location, helpful and friendly staff, comfortable room, great value for the money. We ended up staying for an extra night because we liked it so much.

Buffet breakfast on Monday morning was super slow. We must have just missed the checkout rush as every table was used and no coffee. Not a problem though. It was understandable.

great central location

the rooms are very small and a little stuffy. TV not a smart TV (not essential but would have helped given 3 days of bad weather!) It lacks a comfortable place to sit or bar area, have to order everything at reception and drinks aren’t the quickest. breakfast is very overpriced.

This hotel is situated right next to the harbour entrance. It is comfortable, calm, clean and nice to stay in for a few days. The staff is extremely helpful with all sorts of advice and assistance. The current sanitary restrictions are well respected and guests not wearing masks are politely reminded to do so, so we felt comfort in that area. The swimming pool is big enough for gentle exercise or rest.

Just be aware when preparing for a stay here that breakfast (there is a choice between full and continental at different price points) is not included in the price nor is parking on the street, which costs around 15 euros per day. The hotel does have a limited number of underground parking spaces, but you need to reserve them in advance of your stay.

Great location, slightly at the end of the harbour and with a view out to sea so a fresh breeze and quiet at night. The breakfast was excellent.

The bedrooms were quite small and the bathroom was tiny. The fixtures were also a bit worn and tired. For the price, I’d hoped for something a little smarter
