Golden Tulip Villa Massalia

The pool is great! Quite big (10 m?), lots of sun beds and chez longs/umbrellas, a bar and secluded by palm trees. The daily room service included a full change of all towels, gowns, slippers and beddings. The staff were always very accommodating and attentive. The breakfast spread was good, particularly the bread selection.

The level of finish throughout the hotel is not up to scratch: deformed lock frames, some door frames are worn at the bottom, the shower holder in our room was not holding the shower head which was falling onto our head from time to time chipping the bath. We spotted a cockroach in the swimming pool toilets adjacent to the kitchen back doors. The fruit salad was slightly sour more than fresh. The selection of hot food wasn't very varied (typically eggs and bacon + 2 types of pancakes). Some porridge would be nice, but perhaps, it's not a french thing.

Facilities were excellent and our room was lovely and very comfortable. Black out blinds were a big bonus. Building work happening whilst we were there but it didn't disrupt our stay at all. Breakfast was delicious also with lots of options. Area was nice and felt quieter and more relaxing than the centre of Marseille. Went to Le Petit Jardin which is nearby after we saw a recommendation on here for dinner and it was fantastic! Would definitely recommend! Hotel pool overlooks the race course which was exciting seeing the horses go by whilst sunbathing.

Nothing bad to say about the hotel. Would just like to say for travelers from other countries that some level of French is a must. We found very few people spoke any English in the area (even at the hotel) and so it made some parts of our stay challenging, despite being able to speak some French ourselves.

The hotel is very well located and was just perfect for my travel and reason I come to marseille visiting the racetrack borely to see my horses running . As well I was close to several Restaurant the sport beach is fantastic place !

In my room the shower pressure was not enough and at the pool the first days was the shower very warm and hot water only poolside . In the room the water at the shower was as well not possible to turn cold . But ok .

Hotel : at 5min to the sea and the place Escale Borely with a lot of restaurants. Bus 44 direct to the metro station Rond-point du Prado and there possibility to go to St-Charles train station or Vieux Port. Good welcome and security present. Room : quiet good with view on the sea and Borely hippodrom/golf/park. Comfortable bed ! Thank you for the baby bed (free) with soft sheet and accessoiries (cream, shampoo, ...) ; and the transfer in the new room for the 3rd night. Slippers, shower accessories, bathrobe, fridge with water/drinks. Breakfast : nice staff ; everything asked is "possible" ; very nice breakfast ++++ : salmon, differents bread, fresh fruit, salty and sweet, panecakes, ... . Fitness room and pool with free access (towels available)

Maintenance to review for a 4* hotel : dirty seals in the bathroom. Traces on the walls (killed mosquitoes) not cleaned. Cleaning could be improved ; I dont understand how it is possible to found several curly hair in the pillow (we do not have curly hair) or hair on the ground just after cleaning and our return in the room. All theese points are unacceptable. Chairs on the rusty terrace.

We had a room with sea view and terrace, the pool was a great surprise, and the pool bar was great as well. The staff were very friendly and the property is located close to many things that you can walk to

one night on the outdoor patio for dinner there was a very persistent rat that kept coming onto the patio. One of the staff finally took a broom and ran him off

The pool is very lovely.

The hotel in renewal and the all time workers are here and very noisy, On the floors, the workers were painting the walls and the smell of the paint bothered us. Usually, rooms should not be rented out when the hotel is being renovated.

The Golden Tulip is a bit out of the way from the airport... 45 mins . Although it's a Great location for a nice Beach swim just across the street, with plenty of beach bars and restaurants. Great walking paths along the beach as well as walking paths around the horse racing track which is just outside the hotel grounds. I was lucky enough to enjoy a top floor room with a very large terrace overlooking the horse racing track, and the wonderful pitch and putt golf course!! If you have time play the fun course. Being able to watch the horses race and carriage races where great fun a real bonus for staying at the Tulip!! There is a wonderful hot dry sauna and steam room as well as the heated swim pool.. Just across the street is a Great Fruit market , bakery and a Real Coffee shop with lot's of regular local boys sipping espresso all day long!! I will be back to the Tulip on my next trip to Marseilles.. James B. PDX Oregon USA

All was good...

Perfect location, close to the beaches and plenty of restaurants. Easy to rent bikes and go for a ride or get a bus elsewhere, nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the old port. Hotel felt luxurious, very friendly and attentive staff, beautiful heated pool and we were upgraded to the presidential suite which was a real bonus! Couldn’t have stayed anywhere better!

The glass of the revolving door was smashed which slightly hinders the first impression, but that’s the only fault.

- we got a free upgrade to suite (after they first assigned us an occupied room, then a smoker room) - underground parking (20€ day) - friendly staff

- like others wrote, they are blocking 200-300€ deposit on your card for a long time. It should be released within 1-2 working days after checkout!

This was a return trip to stay on last night in France before my travels back to the USA after three weeks in the French Riviera and Three days in Rome Italy.. I started my travels on October 11 I checked in to the Golden Tulip which I picked out on Booking.com as I do for all of my hotel bookings, for the past six years… I was very thrilled to see my fourth floor room with a very large outdoor terrace also overlooking the Horse racing track and the Daily Pitch & Putt golf course in the center of the track.. The vista view of the sea side and city is Amazing!! The overall comfort of the room and hotel is above average.. There is also a wonderful Steam room and dry sauna as well as the heated full size swimming pool.. I enjoyed my three nights stay so much that I booked my last night stay as well. The front desk staff was very helpful and knowledgeable of the area.. There is a very large Beach for swimming and many wonderful restaurants and bars beach front .. it’s location is a 30 to 45 mins from the airport.. Enjoy your Stay at the Tulip 🌷 James B.
