All old buildings has their quirks; don’t expect all doors to fit the frame perfectly, or all floors to be even, but that is the charm. The couple running the hotel gave a wonderful service, they were very professional and service minded, and spoke good English. Perfect location if you will do as I did and hire a car to visit Guédelon.

It is important to note that the air conditioning consists of a separate unit standing on the floor with a pipe out the window. There is a central system installed but it is broken I was told, probably from age. That means the AC isn’t quiet and if you cannot sleep with earplugs, don’t visit during summer, visit in end of September as I did.

Only passing through enroute to Paris from Marseille via Cote D'Azur (Nice) following the rugby RWC23 (fantastic experience all round) fell in love with France again! The food, wine, large supermarkets, roads without potholes, no rubbish by the side of the road, real cafes/boulangeries, the Alps and valleys... I could go on and on... Only stopped for the one night as we were on a mission to get to Paris from the Cote D'Azur via Grenoble, the following day for the RWC23 semi finals. Lovely traditional French family run hotel. Walked into town late afternoon to see the sights and had a good choice of restaurants for dinner. Booked on the road the night before and took one of their suites as we were fed up with pokey hotel room that you could touch all four wall from the middle of the bed!

Having to leave!

For a few locations 5 stars raring is not enough, like Hotel Les Marechaux in Auxerre. The beautiful building, the location, the garden are all very nice. But... most remarkable is the atmosphere which is given by the hosts Isabelle and Fabian. Meeting them and you feel immediately welcome. There is no Ibis - or Accor hotel which can come any close to this level. The hotel has many old elements left, so everything remains in style. The rooms are spacious compared to most French hotels. The Wi-Fi is fast. There is enough (free) parking and the breakfast with (local) fruit perfect.

It might be that the rooms can we warm during a hot Summer day. The mobile airco will keep your head cool.

This was an impressive building which is being brought back to its original grandeur by its owners. There was ample free parking and a lovely back garden to enjoy strolling amongst the trees, shrubs and spring bulbs. Our bedroom was very comfortable & clean as was the en-suite bathroom. It was a short stroll to the delightful town centre - we regretted not having longer to explore and will return again.

We had no complaints about anything!

This is truly a Grand Hotel, although of only moderate size, but really unique. All the rooms are named for Napoleon's Grand Marshals of France. The rooms are large and elaborately furnished and equipped. There is an elevator, but our room was on the ground floor. The breakfast is elaborate and handsome. The staff were most courteous. The door is locked at 9 but a pass code is provided. The parking areas are walled, videoed, and secure. Auxerre is bigger than a town, but everything worth seeing, the central plazas, the cathedral, the fine restaurants - all are within walking distance. We used Google maps and found very obscure spots easily. This town is getting to the size that caution is advised but in the time we were there we never felt threatened - although a few drunks were indeed roaming around after 10 PM. There is a modest police presence in contrast to the invisible constabulary of smaller towns in France.

Everything was perfect for our stay.

The room is decorated in a very traditional way and the cleanliness and facilities are exceptional. The breakfast is indeed plentiful and varied. As to the location, it is only a short walk to the centre of town and there are quaint bistros and restaurants. What clinched it for us was the parking on the premises which made loading and unloading very easy.

I failed to appreciate how many stairs there were to access the room - as I did not specify that my husband was disabled the problem is mine. The hotel is currently reviewing its accessibility for less able guests. But there is a lift to all floors. We also had issues with the lighting control and found the owners were not on site from 8pm onwards. We also arrived later than expected - we should have phoned ahead as the owner was not too happy. I'm not sure that the times are specified on the booking form.

We loved our stay at Les Maréchaux. Our room was spacious, well-appointed, and immaculate, the grounds were beautiful, the petit déjeuner was copious and delicious and Fabien and Pascale were wonderful and gracious hosts. We had many engaging conversations spawned by common interests, Fabien's exacting and curious mind and wide-ranging intelligence. We recommend this well-priced mini-chateau for any travelers in the Auxerre region of Burgundy.

Breakfast was outstanding and the owners were lovely. Newton, the bulldog, was adorable. The heated outdoor swimming pool was still open and was very welcome after a day sightseeing. From the hotel it’s an easy walk into the magnificent old town where there are plenty of shops and restaurants.

The wash basin in the bathroom was so near the loo that we kept catching our arms on the corner of the unit. Portable air con unit in room was effective but noisy and rather ugly, they have huge renovations to undertake so eventually won’t need them thank goodness.

Arrived to a beautiful period house that looked stunning. There is a nice sized parking space and very chatty and friendly hosts who speak excellent English. We were shown to our rooms, which by Parisienne standards are enormous ! There was a portable air-conditioning unit that meant we were finally able to breathe a little after a 38 degree day. Sat by the pool and read for a little in the afternoon and listened to the birds singing in the trees. Breakfast in the morning was excellent with local products and a wide variety of things (cereal, yoghurt, fruit, ham etc) and the buffet style meant no one left the table hungry.

Two nights here would have been good to relax a little more - left a day early. Although the hotel is set back from the road, it was still a little noisy during the night,. This was purely due to a 2 stroke motorcycle that was doing laps of the town, and Harley Davidson that must have been chasing it.

Excellent location above town. Good parking. Short walk to downtown restaurants. Large room. Renovated residence with interesting history. Adequate lift to rooms. Excellent check-in and helpful staff.

Wi-fi is not secured and may have led to identity theft. Since stay, my email is receiving hundred of scam emails per day and my phone is receiving hundreds of fraudulent texts per day.
