Curacao Avila Beach Hotel

Sometimes pictures can be deceiving when searching for hotels but seeing is believing folks! The view really is that beautiful. I didn’t get to eat at the Blue restaurant which was disappointing but there was a few restaurants conveniently down the street. Tips: try to schedule a private ride transfer to and from airport with Avila directly! They are pretty good at replying to messages & helping out. I made the mistake of getting a airport taxi to the hotel & it was not cheap! I used their company on the way back and it was significantly cheaper! Must do: If you don’t mind walking… it’s like a 15/20min direct walk to the big “Curaçao” sign, souvenir shops and Queen Emma’s Bridge!!! What I love most about the hotel was the views and the beach I was surprise it wasn’t very busy considering I came on a Saturday but I loved having the beach temporarily to myself lol. I didn't have full breakfast only a fruit plate but seem like there was a lot to offer. The pool was great! The view from the tower is exceptional!

Not the hotel fault but, The Mosquitoes! OMG bring spray because those mosquitoes are disrespectful. I had a few in my room. Do not leave your door or window open too long. The bathroom was nice. The room wasn’t dirty but I felt it couldn’t been cleaned just a lil better because of the random strings on hair I saw. The bed was different lol. It kinda flopped up when I first laid on it. I’m only 140 pounds. The mattress was was very light. I slept like a baby though!

The room and the hotel were amazing. The location was right on the water and it was spectacular. The spa was great!!

The front desk staff were not very helpful at first, but they did get better.

Beautiful property, great location

During our stay, they were remodeling near by building, which we were notified prior to arrival, but then 2 days later our bungalows were under remodel also, lots of banging paint odors. Several of the rooms were remodeled as well as the deck which was bothersome, especially during the afternoon houra.

Location is perfect close to shops, a pharmacy and town. You have amazing restaurants just walking distance. Breakfast is really good. The two private beaches, the beautiful gardens and colonial architecture really make the place magical. The giftshop is great, they have lot of amazing things and its much better there than the ones at Mambo beach. Their babysitter is amazing, just wonderful and kind. We’ll go back to Avila Beach Hotel, we are in love.

Unfortunately people “reserve” beds and cabanas putting their towels down. I feel the hotel staff should remind this to the guests at the checkin or when you get the beach towels as its not allowed. The bathroom of the apartment had a bad smell coming through the shower drain at times. Kitchen supplies such as plates, pans and pots are really limited they should definitely provide more.

Our stay was perfect! My husband and I spent 4 nights in the Ocean Front Blueswing. Our room was clean and cold when we got there, which was nice compared to the heat outside. The view is SPECTACULAR. We spent every morning drinking coffee on the porch looking out over the ocean. The coffee machine made really good coffee. We felt tons of privacy in the room. The shower was spacious and right at the entrance so we could rinse off before walking through the room sandy. We also noticed house keeping did a terrific job and mopped the floors everyday so we didn't feel like we were living right on the beach by having everything sandy. It was such a refreshing stay. We ate at 2 of the restaurant, had drinks by the beach and brunch one day. All meals were lovely. Highly recommend the pina colada. The location is also perfect because we were able to walk into town and explore on foot. The path is filled with colorful and beautiful houses. We also used the budget car service on site and found it incredibly easy to book a car for 2 days there. The parking on site was easy and free. I would recommend this hotel over and over to anyone who is going to Curacao!

the only downside is that the room was a splurge for us. It would have been too expensive for a normal stay but since it was our honeymoon we increased our budget.

Overall, the Avila is a unique, first-rate experience. Everything is immaculate, the rooms are sparse but comfortable and after a few days I felt very comfortable. The balcony of the room overlooks the Caribbean and the beautiful resort grounds, and I could have spent the whole week and a half hanging out on the balcony and in the hotel's two fine restaurants. I am a late riser, so I did not choose the breakfast option, but I had it twice, and I thought it was excellent. It has the usual US breakfast buffet items plus a few Dutch and Caribbean things to give it a bit of local flair. The beach is world class. The restaurant abuts the beach, and I spent a few hours a day just hanging out at the restaurant, working on my laptop and admiring the incredible view and atmosphere. The two restaurants at the hotel are good, and I could have eaten there every day. The close location to a number of fine seafood places along Penstrasse and only a 20-minute walk to Punda, Willemstad's colorful downtown shopping district, meant I could hang around there and take advantage of the stores and outdoor tourist restaurants there.

The big problem on Curacao is the lack of stable satellite and internet connections. The hotel's Wi-Fi was the only place my Verizon-based iPhone and iMac had any internet access at all. Even at the hotel, though, not all connections worked well. My remote Spectrum (cable broadband provider in US) account could not send emails. which created confusion in some business dealings. (I was there 70% vacation and 30% work).

We booked the Octagon standard room which was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Even the outer restrooms in common areas were very clean and modernized. Electrical Outlets are Euro 220V which we only realized by asking - no info on website. The hotel offered a complimentary breakfast to guests who booked this room type on their website due to renovations undertaken nearby. This was extended to us only when we asked - something that booking.com should have negotiated. The 2 private beaches were as advertised with lots of beach chairs and thatched huts. A modestly easy walk ( 1.5 km) to the town if you missed the complimentary hotel shuttle. Staff were friendly, hospitable and helpful!! Good food, good drinks, Latin music and great atmosphere! Loved the fitness CENTRE to help balance out the experience!

A complimentary shared airport shuttle was made available to guests who booked directly on hotel’s website. We paid extra as we booked on Booking.com. Breakfast was fair. Some local options added to the “regular” American breakfast menu. Some improvement needed on making good omelettes. Drivers for the airport-hotel transfers could be more hospitable with some driving safety training. Some air refresher units in lobby area would do wonders!

the first night, there was a wedding on one of the beach near ou room, music was soooo loud, we felt that wasn’t right for guests, some rooms were even closer than us

Excellent location, surrounded by a huge choice of restaurants and only a 10/15 minute flat walk in to town. Very friendly staff. Gorgeous beaches. Great facilities. I would definitely recommend and hope to return in the near future.

Only a couple of negatives. There's currently some building work and a temporary reception but it doesn't affect your stay. One night, the rain was so bad that it came through the ceiling in to our room however when we informed reception, they fixed the problem quickly and all the clothes that were wet were cleaned free of charge.

The view from our ocean view room was splendid (we had one of the best located though). The colorful buildings and palms really set the mood. The 2 small private beaches are cute and quiet. Sufficient sunbeds. Pool is nice. Gym with a view motivates to wake up early...

Honestly, a bit boring. It feels like there is not much life there (main bar opening at 3PM), only music played is Xmas songs (5 different one on repeat). I guess we are maybe not fully the target, and more suited for family with young kid, or older people looking for extreme calm. Drinks/snacks are overpriced, but rather common on the Island.
