Selina San Jose

Bed was clean and comfortable, food was served to 10pm and breakfast started at 7am that was great, staff were really nice and the place hand a relaxing fun environment to it. I would definitely stay there again.

It was karaoke night which is fine but after a long day of travel I just wanted to eat a go to sleep, they did give me room far from the music but unfortunately the sound came through the cheap bedroom door , and the guests above me were dragging something across their floor, luckily I had my JBL headphones and some meditative music to drown it out. I did feel at $80+ a night it should have a tv in the room though.

The room was very clean and beds were comfy. People were super friendly and met many nice other travellers! The staff were very friendly, although something went wrong with booking my shuttle to la Fortuna they rebooked me onto a later one free of charge!

I booked a shuttle from the airport to the hostel. The communication on this was very poor and I didn't know where to go or where to find my shuttle. When I exited the airport and couldnt find it the communication with the hostel was very poor and they didnt/hardly responded to my questions when I asked them about the shuttle I booked. In the end it worked out but would have liked a less stressful arrival in San Jose haha I should have trusted the other reviews that mentioned this previously...

the best hostel in San Jose by far! it’s pricey but the rooms are so good it makes the high cost worth it. if you want to stay somewhere with privacy and comfort then this it the place to be! the curtains on the beds are something rare in Central America and they are perfect after a long journey. the food is fantastic but a main and a drink cost almost the same as my room for the night. the staff are amazing and so helpful, it was so good to see a security guard on duty during the night as many hostels in Costa Rica don’t have one. I have already booked to stay again as I felt so safe in a city known for being unsafe.

it is expensive but that is to be expected with a Selina, the rooms are actually quite reasonably priced but the food is very pricey. the price would be an issue but it’s such a good hostel that you really feel that you get your money’s worth.

I was based in a female only two double-berth bunk-bed room. Two of the females were travelling together. The other was from a different country to my own, but could converse with me well in English. We became good friends throughout our stay for the duration of our time together, sharing experiences and photos taken on our days' excursions, so as to inform one another what was and was not worth doing with our time within the city. I loved the fact that you could claim some privacy for yourself with thick, blackout curtains which you could draw around the bed, your own personal bedside lamp and a wooden cupboard above the mattress to put things in for easy accessibility. It was great having an ensuite bathroom connected with the room. It was well ventilated and adequately quiet for a good night's sleep. The mattress was very comfortable and the bedding suitable. There was a very attractive web-based and extensive food menu. As a vegan/vegetarian there was plenty enough choice available for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. The prices were reasonable and the presentation just beautiful. There were a range of areas where you could take roost for whatever activity engaged you, whether reading, listening to the live music, engaging with friends or eating. It is an attractive, inspiring, colourful, creative and youthful place.

It was possible to hire a towel from reception for a very reasonable sum. However, it would have been just perfect to find a towel waiting and ready on the mattress, or even in the above bed storage cupboard, as I generally only travel with a very miniscule travel towel.

It is a cozy place not far from the center of San Jose in a quite neighbourhood. There are a few nice cafes/restaurants/bars around the corner, but the food at Selina is also good and the patio a nice place to get in contact with other travellers. I can especially recommend the masseur Oscar! His massage was exactly the right thing to unwind and fully relax during my holiday! The staff speaks English and Spanish and is always there 24/7 to answer questions. Also they organize some nice activities. I can recommend the welcome drink and the free walking tour!

Excellent storage options and plenty of places to charge your stuff,including within the locker. Decent location would definitely come back. Amazing restaurant too! Also shout out to the cleaning lady she’s lovely and very considerate

I was never assigned a bed when I arrived and told to just take whatever I wanted. I returned one night to find my bed hijacked as somebody else had been assigned it. The person who took my bed wasn’t easy to talk to and it created a bit of conflict. Regardless of the sheets being used and belongings being there they weren’t willing to move. If the hostel is going to assign beds they need to make this clear or not assign at all. Moreover, their experiences can be booked on trip advisor for much less and it’s the exact same tour.

clean sheets, warm shower, beds allowed you to charge near them, each bed had a privacy curtain. Bunk beds were sturdy and did not shake when one person moved. internet was stable and fast. easy and cheap to get to airport from Uber, and proximity to bus stations.

beds each had a cabinet with a lock, and an extra pillow there (and a charging outlet), but it took up a lot of room and I hit my knees in them a few times. beds are also first come first serve if you prefer a certain bed.

The Selina in San Jose was really a lovely place to stay. I spent 2 nights as a solo female traveller and it felt really friendly and safe. I met some wonderful people almost immediately and felt really welcomed by the staff. The facilities exceeded my expectations, a lovely bar, live music, welcome drink daily, roof terrace and great Wi-Fi. The location was great and left very safe given some other parts of the city. The reception is 24/7 and they were very helpful when I had to check out at 4am for the airport and also when I wanted to book the free walking tour (less than 5min walk from the hostel).

The bedroom was a little bit cramped for space but I was only there for 2 nights so wasn't an issue.

We stayed there three times each one night and we met so amazing people. The staff was very friendly, especially Mairon! The rooms were good and also the common kitchen was big enough and had many utensils to cook with. Would recommend it to everyone who wants to connect to new people, but even if you want a private room you get one for a reasonable amount of money. Also the shuttles were super easy to book from the hostel.

it's Selina... always consistent! Food and bar areas are nice. And the staff is great They also have nice spa packages! I got two awesome sports massages while there that included breakfast! if you're having an epic night to remember forever there's a tattoo artist on property!

The lockers in the room could be upgraded -- it was the old loud metal kind and not large enough to secure an entire load for most people, so many bags on the floor.
