Fairfield by Marriott San Jose Airport Alajuela

Our stay at the Marriott Fairfield was comfortable, a great place to start of the trip before our 4 hour journey the next morning. Breakfast was amazing, great selection of local foods and standard breakfast foods. Staff we're so lovely and accommodating. There's a Walmart right across the road too which was handy for picking up last minute things like sim cards, snacks and toiletries.

Clearer information about the free airport shuttle prior to arrival. We didn't know we had to wait for it at the hotel shuttle part of SJO airport arrivals so we ended up paying for an overpriced taxi to the hotel.

The ease of the complimentary airport shuttle to and from the airport is a huge bonus, runs often, early in the morning to late at night, and is simple to find after exiting the airport and turning right and walking down the sidewalk/pavement a bit past the clamoring taxi drivers but they are helpful if you ask where the hotel shuttle pulls up. The airport shuttle serves both hotels, the Fairfield and Courtyard Marriott, which are located side by side. The entire hotel and rooms are aesthetically pleasing and clean and comfortable. The included breakfast is tasty and offers a large selection of choices, from gallo pinto to 2 types of scrambled eggs, meats, cheeses, veggies, yogurt, fruits, breads, cereals, milk, juices, coffee. Best and largest breakfast selection I’ve found at a hotel. Very close to airport but on a pretty quiet street. 24 hour security guards out front. The hotel bar and restaurant has friendly bartenders and servers. The ice machines have good ice. Walmart is conveniently located right next door and is open pretty late. For lunch or dinner, the restaurant at the sister hotel right next door is great and there is the option to charge the meals/drinks to your room next door, as they are both Marriott hotels. Would recommend and would stay again.

Really the only thing is that the rooms could use a mini fridge

The staff were really helpful here. I arrived at San Jose airport quite late at night - nearly 2am (after the shuttle had finished for the day) and there were no official taxis at the taxi rank, but upon calling the hotel they sent a taxi straight away so I could safely arrive at the property. I just stayed for one night but the room was perfectly comfortable and a great selection of food at the included breakfast. I took the hotel shuttle to the airport the next morning and the driver dropped me straight at the domestic terminal before continuing to the international terminal. Great hotel for a layover between flights!

The location of this hotel is ideal in order to catch a flight early the next day. We very much appreciated the free shuttle to the airport. A tip regarding that: during busy times at the airport, you might want to ensure you are at the hotel lobby well ahead of the shuttle's departure time - our shuttle was nearly full. The cleanliness of the room was impeccable. The reception staff was very kind and helpful!

The restaurant's price-quality ratio for our dinner wasn't quite what we expected.

Breakfast was fabulous,unfortunately I was rushed to get my plane otherwise I would have sampled more of the menu. I was a little disappointed in the size of the room and really upset with the"price" of the room. I booked through booking .com and was told a price of $144.00 U.S dollars so I figured around $210-225 Canadian dollars. The bill was $370 Cdn that was extremely high, unfortunately I didn't even look at the bill but noticed the final charge on my credit card. I did think they may have billed room service to my bill bit I paid for the room in advance and paid for room service separately.

The fridge wasn't on.

Location is just 5 min from the airport so a great place for a late arrival or early departure. There are a few exceptional restaurants in front (El Novilo Alegre), an Apple store, an outlet, a rental car and even Walmart next door, so you cannot go wrong. The breakfast had good choices and the coffee was great. Staff was welcoming and there is a regular shuttle to the airport. A bit pricey I would say but will definitively stay here again.

Our room was just by the elevator so we could hear some noise now and again and also from next door, but that is only because people think they are the only ones in the hotel and consideration is low nowadays it seems.

Best parts of this hotel are the convenient and frequent complimentary airport shuttle to and from hotel, the varied and abundant complimentary breakfast and the aesthetically-pleasing clean and comfy rooms and lobby. Showers always have super hot water with an abundance of water coming from shower heads. It’s a lovely hotel. Have stayed multiple times and have never been bothered by airplane or any other outside noises. Walmart is conveniently located right next door, including a large produce section. There is a restaurant and bar inside the hotel and also at the sister hotel next door and a few restaurants right across the street. 24-hour security guards posted out front.

Could use a mini fridge in rooms and an ice machine on each floor.

We landed late in the day and didn’t want to drive at night so booked a one night stay, I feel like you can’t go wrong with Marriott hotels and this one did not disappoint! Super clean, comfortable beds, hot water in the shower and a great buffet breakfast in the morning. They have a restaurant that closes at midnight and the food was delicious. The shuttle from and to the airport was a huge plus. The shuttles come every half an hour and the drivers are so nice and accommodating, we had to go back to the airport in the morning to catch a shuttle for the rental company and the driver dropped us at the arrivals entrance which saved us a walk!

Nothing.

The hotel is nice and clean, the staff helpful. I had a room right by the elevator that I was worried would be noisy but it was not. There is some traffic noise from outside given the location but the windows are fairly thick so it's not that bad. The shuttle from the airport took a bit to arrive, it runs every 30 minutes so I must have just missed one. Huge benefit there is a mall, a Walmart, bank machine and car rental agency all within walking distance.

The free breakfast could have been a bit more substantial but it served the purpose.

This hotel was conveniently located at 5 minutes from San Jose airport. It is also in close proximity of the freeway, which is convenient when travelling in and out of the city, but far enough to not be bothered by the noise. We stayed for 2 nights (at our arrival in Costa Rica and at our departure of Costa Rica). Both times we were very happy with our stay. Check-in was easy and fast. All the staff we have encountered was always very friendly and kind. We had free parking with a 24/7 guard. Our room was big enough for the stay, with a Queen bed, desk, TV, ironing board, and some complimentary tea/coffee. Waters were at an extra charge. The bathroom was spacious and the overall room was very clean. Rooms were very quiet. We had in-room dinner, and staff was amazing. Food was available until 11 pm which is a great bonus, and there are also snacks and premade meals at the reception if needed, which was very convenient. We also had breakfast included in our stay, and we enjoyed the diversity of what was offered; from eggs, to waffles, fresh juices, fresh fruit, yogurt... Definitely enough to make everyone happy. While dinner was ok (a little tasteless), breakfast was really good. Wi-Fi worked great throughout the hotel. We can definitely recommend this hotel for any couples or families traveling to San Jose.
