Looking at the pictures I expected a large hotel, but this is in fact a small (6 rooms) family owned place set in spacious grounds with a lovely large pond. A stream runs right behind the hotel, attracting lots of frogs and birds. We even saw vultures in the garden. Breakfast is served in an outdoor pavilion with a great view of the grounds. The hotel makes use of the large swimming pool next door (where swimming lessons are given part of the day) Staff is really nice and helpful and the whole place is immaculate. The hotel is a short walk outside the (touristy) town center, but there is a great bakery and a supermarket right next door.

GREAT value! Staff was exceptionally warm & kind. SUPER clean. Delicious breakfast, very comfortable room & beds. Beautiful gardens & grounds w/pond & I LOVED swimming in the fabulous HUGE Olympic-style pool, by far the best of all the places I have stayed in CR! Very easy walk to a Maxi Pali grocery store & town if you do not have a car but you'll likely prefer a taxi at night because there are not many streetlights & it's easy to get lost. Fortuna is a fun spot. Lots of great shops & restaurants. Waterfall & volcano hikes are not to be missed!

There was a group of noisy, inconsiderate visitors. This is a very peaceful, serene setting, away from town, a place to rest. It's really not well suited if you are coming to party into the wee hours.

I loved the property location. It was close to everything but you couldn’t tell you were in the town of La fortuna. There was a river and trees all around and the pond with ducks and fish were a plus. My kids enjoyed the pond and swing on the property. The housekeeping was AMAZING. Came everyday and even did our laundry. The home cooked breakfast was so good and nice to have it included with your stay.

Nothing that you could fix! The only thing that was a tiny issue was what I am assuming was animals throwing things against the roof to break them open. It woke us up a few times but you’re in Costa Rica, so kind of expected to have things like that happen.

Amazingly helpful staff! They honestly made our stay so comfortable and memorable. They booked many tours and transport for us, even at short notice, and made sure we got great prices. They gave us good restaurant recommendations too! The rooms are nice and clean. Breakfast was good - go for the traditional! Wifi was good. Location was 10 minute walk to town and only 5 minutes to a large Pali supermarket. The grounds of the property are really nice with a river flowing next to it, and a big pond in the middle. There are also facilities including a gym and swimming you can use for a fee. We would definitley St'sy here again.

The surroundings (little river at the back of the garden, the garden itself, the pond with ducks, swimming pool). The staff was nice, also they cleaned the room every day. There were some useful details in the room (dryer for wet clothes, shelves, air con, mini-fridge, info signs at the walls, etc) and coffee available during the day. All in all-we had a very nice stay!

Nothing that would bother me, but indeed the walls are rather thin so you hear people from rooms next door

The staff, the staff, the staff! What a wonderful welcome to Arenal and to Costa Rica! Anna, Pablo, Marianetta and their family run the most wonderful little hotel in the most fantastic setting. Our stay began with Pablo picking us up from the airport and giving us a tour and meal-stop road trip to La Fortuna, spotting toucans and waterfalls. The hotel consists of six rooms facing out upon a small lake, a lovely open-sided breakfast and coffee room, and the most incredible 25m swimming pool. We swim for fitness and for family fun and it was brilliant being able to still get our lengths in whilst on holiday. We even enjoyed a game of water polo on Pablo’s birthday! We saw leaf cutter ants, giant iguanas, toucans and macaws whilst we were here, not to mention the huge black grasshoppers. Amazing. Anna, in reception, was able to book us onto whatever activity we wished, and helped us massively when we wanted to visit places independently (she found us Diego, a really nice private driver) and cheaply (ask her about Las Thermalitas!) Hotel Colores is exactly the kind of hotel we hoped to stay in whilst in Costa Rica - friendly, helpful and generous people whose business deserves the greatest of success. Thank you - Pura Vida.

Nothing really. It was fifteen minutes walk from the town centre, but only five from a supermarket.

love the breakfast and the friendly staff. the hot shower was amazing as i have been to other small hotels in the past that had no hot water!. the mini fridge in the room is great !

it was a little out of the way from the town city center. i did not walk to town after dark especially being a solo female traveler.

I felt really welcomed by the staff, they are what makes this place special. Really helpful & kind people, special shout out to Marianela, Andres, Anitha & Blanca (sorry for the spelling) for always greeting me with a smile and asking how I am. Simplistic rooms, has what you need no more no less. it also feels quite safe since it’s only 6 rooms so the place is never crowded. The surrounding area is very calm and nice with lots of banana trees and a pond with ducks, fish & a turtle. A cooler temp pool which is really nice when you’ve been out on a hike.

More suggestions than something I didn’t like: Since it is a bit of a walk in to town it would have been a nice touch to be able to rent a bike from the hotel. And also to be able to buy cold beverages in reception, like water.

Quiet place just outside of town. Its 1000c into the centre which is much less than the difference of a hotel in town. Quiet hotel set in nice gardens full of wildlife. We saw a couple of huge Igananas The ac in the room was good. Breakfast is either Tican or American with juice tea and coffee. There is no kettle or fridge in the room but there is a kettle for guest use at reception and also a hair dryer. The large gardens are great fir a walk and despite there being a large pond there did not seem to be many mosquitos. There is a couple of rails and some hangers but we are living out of our bags anyway.

No loungers or easy chairs in the garden

The staff were friendly and helped us find activities to do in the area. The room had air conditioning and was a nice size. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and it the pavilion we ate in was right next to a pretty creek. We were a 10-15 minute walk away from downtown with all the shops and restaurants.

The shower was cold. Not a deal breaker, but definitely inconvenient after a long day of hiking. The access to the pool was a small window and we never got the chance to use it. We didn't mind it, but there were quite a few bugs and a lizard that got into our room during our stay, sharing in case that bothers anyone.
