The Courthouse Hotel, Ascend Hotel Collection

Breakfast was above average. They focused on providing a limited but adequate range of higher quality offerings. Parking was very convenient. I had an extra heavy suitcase so I appreciated their 'handicap' entrance. The person on the front desk was very responsive to my inquiries when I first arrived. And although the facility has been modernized with respect to services and electronics there is enough of the original woodwork and layout to give you a feeling of the the buildings historical purpose. A great view from the front of the building.

No suggestions. It seems to me they have gone out of their way to make one's stay worthwhile.

Very comfortable beds, pillows, and linens! Very clean hotel. Great central location. Easy walking to downtown. Free parking near the door next to the building. Huge beautiful nicely recently remodeled rooms. Quiet hotel. Beautiful historic building with high ceilings, woodwork, and crystal chandeliers and sconces. Breakfast was decent. Hot options were scrambled eggs, country potatoes and bacon or sausage links depending on the day. Toast, cereal, muffins, yogurt, apples/ oranges were the other options. Staff is friendly.

The door to the shower opens toward the wall and it's difficult to turn on the shower. You get wet from the cold water. There's no towel hook so I had to thread the towel through the shower handle. I wish breakfast had more hot savory options and options like waffles, pancakes, or mixed fruit and juice.

I like the aesthetic appeal of this hotel and its location provides a great view south toward the lake. The beds are super comfortable and the bathroom and decor are very good. I had a room on the top floor so had no noise from adjacent or rooms below. The location is very good - walking distance to nice restaurants and feels safe to leave one's vehicle. The breakfast was very nice.

The initial check-in experience was not particularly friendly, although professional enough. I sometimes get this when arriving by motorcycle but it wasn't the best initial impression I had on this trip.

fun to stay in a heritage building (so much woodwork!) I was in a room on upper floor with a great view of the lake. it had a fireplace, comfortable furniture, even a robe and slippers.

breakfast was fine, nothing special not many visible outlets, none by bed petty, but the art in my room was bad and weirdly placed. as I spent a bit of time drawing the view myself, I thought that the hotel would really benefit from the creation of an artist-in-residency program. I’d love to return to find various interpretations of the sleeping giant :)

The building was incredible. It has a grand stair case, all the beautiful wood work, transoms over the doors, HIGH ceilings and large, high windows. The rooms were large, the bedding was new, the bed comfy, great breakfast (cheese omelets were very good) and very pleasant and helpful staff. It is high up on a hill and you can see Lake Superior. The hotel is close to the waterfront park and walkway. It was a delight to see the sail boats in the marina and walk through the Spirit garden. Such a beautiful location.

The breakfast was great, nice selection of teas, lovely view. The bedroom was spacious, very comfortable bed, nice linens. The bathroom was well equipped with quality soaps and products, very nice shower. The location was central, with stunning views. I was very impressed with the courthouse architectural details, and the thoughtful conversion to a lovely boutique hotel. The staff was welcoming and accommodating.

Was a court house in the pass, now turn in to hotel, so it make people walking in with respect but somehow with some warm emotional feeling. Overall room is very clean. ceiling is very tall. Washroom is larger than usual hotel. Personal hygiene products are very complete. Breakfast are simple but most of item are my favorite, so I love it.

No microwave in the room, you need go to breakfast room to use the public microwave. You can hear people walking sounds from upstairs

The hotel is absolutely beautiful, close to the water front for walking. Rooms were large, beds extremely comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Very good value for your money compared to other hotels in Thunder Bay. The history of the building adds to the charm if staying there. And above all pet friendly, which for us who travel with their dogs, extremely important, sometimes I feel like we are punished for our pets, but not here, treated like everyone else, thank you for that.

Nothing really, enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.

Rooms were beautiful. Much nicer that I expected for the price. Two of the rooms had a great view of Lake Superior. It was walking distance to the great restaurants and harborside activities. This was a bonus as we were traveling on motorcycles.

One room's air conditioner didnt work (not a big deal as it wasnt too warm the day we were there). One room had a view of the rooftop (not a big deal as didnt stay in room long). One (of the 3 rooms we booked) was on a different floor than the others (however this one had the best view). No hot breakfast as the oven was broken (they apologized for this a check in).

The breakfast was simple but delicious, and the coffee was good. The location was close to exciting shopping areas and restaurants, and the gelato shop a block away was amazing. The view of the port was beautiful. The room was courageous (basement room) with high ceilings, large deep windows that gave lots of light, and comfortable beds. The bathroom was spacious and clean, with all the essentials for a fantastic shower. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Our room was located on the lowest floor (basement), but the room was beautiful with lots of light. The only issue we had was being able to hear everything in the room above us. Every step, cough, washroom break (with all the sounds that transpire within the bathroom), and movement in the room was as if they were in the same room as us. My kids commented on their actions based on the above guests' movements and what activities they were doing.
