The Benson Portland, Curio Collection by Hilton

The Benson is an historical building with original design elements in tact. Grand, high ceilings. Lots of beautiful woodwork & ceiling moldings & detail. Grand fire place. The place was still decorated for Christmas & was just gorgeous. The lobby & bar area were places you wanted to hang out in. Just wonderful!

The room was spacious - incredibly roomy. Bed was comfy and the couch was too. But there are 2 chairs in the room that sit basically like office chairs - you wouldn't spend any more time on them then to put on your shoes. Those could be improved. And the lack of any other furniture in the room was odd. It felt like a half decorated room. Not minimalism on purpose, but like someone didn't finish which is such an odd opposition to the grandeur of the lobby & beautiful details in the main parts of the hotel.

"I cannot say enough wonderful things about THE BENSON CURIO COLLECTION BY HILTON, in Portand, OR. My sister and I stayed at this wonderful hotel for 4 nights and we felt like we had rubbed the right Genie Lamp! Our every wish was at it's command. The reception desk employees could not be more helpful; when we called for service for our room, our request was quickly taken care of, and by the nicest, kindest, most courteous employee, Ms. Jamie. The room was spaciously large, sparkling clean, the beds very comfortable - when we checked in when we said we were there celebrating our mutual Birthdays, they upgraded our room!! My sister and I had been chatting to ourselves about "wouldn't it be fun to be able to tour the Presidential Suite"...joking, knowing something like that would never happen. To our utter shock, we got a visit by the traveling quality control inspector, the sweetest, most generous, joyfilled Ms Jackie, who upon hearing of us celebrating our birthdays, wanted to make it was ultra special, so granted our wish for a personal tour of the Presidential Suite, where we toured the entire suite, and experienced the luxury that it is. Then to our surprise, Ms. Jackie presented us with two vouchers for 2 free glasses of wine, AND a $50 certificate off a meal in their THE PALM COURT. We already had had one dinner and one lunch there prior to our receiving the certificate, and we had NO PROBLEM AT ALL in having dinner there again, as their menu and meals are delectable!! Our waiters John, and Bobby whom we had the delight of meeting, have both been employed at THE BENSON for over 40 yrs each. They took care of us with professionalism and joyousness. My sister and I really felt like VIP's in every aspect of our stay, highly recommending to anyone to stay at THE BENSON CURIO COLLECTION BY HILTON, PORTLAND, OR."

Our family of 5 really enjoyed our stay here in November 2022. The hotel itself is beautiful and well-located (walkable) near the Pearl District, Powell's bookstore, and lots of restaurants and shopping. The building is charming and has fantastic architecture. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, particularly the wait staff in the restaurant, and particularly our morning server, Bobby. All of the servers in the restaurant went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Many of the staff have worked there for literally decades. The check-in process was easy. The rooms were very clean and had everything we needed. Valet was easy to use. Would definitely recommend this hotel if you're staying in Portland.

A little more consistent knowledge about what the "free breakfast" involves/includes.

It would take small novel to express how impressed we were and how amazing our stay was at the Benson Hotel. We stayed for our wedding night and they upgraded our room for free, valet half price, complementary robes, slippers, and champagne. But, what topped it all off was that I arrived the morning of our stay and dropped off 3 dozens roses, a large bag of peddles, a box of LED candle lights, and a projector light to suprise my honey. They took care of the setup and I'm telling you, it was phenomenal. Above and beyond and far exceeded my expectations. It's was gorgeous! Wish I could attach a picture. We had an epic night and we'll definitely be staying here again in the future. Thank you so much to the amazing staff which including Linda who managed everything forme.

Everything was perfect and went very smoothly. They accommodated us in every way!

Our 1st room the air conditioner was not working so they readily upgraded us to a room across the hall from where we started. I needed to use business office computer which was not online with the internet. Security personnel worked with manager on duty, contacted appropriate IT services, explained to me what the problem was and got the computer up and running in less than 1 hour.

We were in a large group and breakfast was included with the trip daily and dinner on the last day. Breakfast was fair overall. Not a lot of fresh choices, however the service was excellent when we asked for additional items not on the buffet line. Dinner was mediocre.

The history

area was a little sketchy

We upgraded to a suite. It was spacious! The room was clean. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was nice and spacious. I liked that the shampoo, conditioner and body wash were in bottles attached to the shower wall, very convenient! There was entertainment (lounge singer, piano player) downstairs in the lobby at night.

The location was not great. Lots of transients and we saw open air drug use outside of the hotel. You definitely do not want to walk outside, alone after dark.

The location is a convenient walk to many things in the area like Powells Books. Also the staff is always friendly! The valet parking is also really convenient which I appreciate. The rooms are always nice and if you need anything they are more than happy to help.

The noise level you get from the street can get a little bad at certain times. Also the area the hotel is in is still coming back after covid, it didn't feel as safe in the area as years past, but the hotel does great with security and floors are keyed access only.

Super swanky and beautiful. Staff was incredible, from desk to bar to room service, really lovely. Location is good and bad. Nice downtown, but with all the drawbacks of downtown. Convenient location to parking.

Lots of homeless surround. Parking pro/con…if you don’t pay for valet, you park in garage (close and convenient) but makes it tough to come and go throughout day/night. Pillows were rough, but I’m at the age where if I sleep on the wrong pillow I look like crooked candy cane, so that’s just me.

We tried valet for a change, but our car battery had somehow been drained overnight? Had to walk with our own luggage to car garage in very undesirable location. It took a jump to get our car started. The fellow was great, however he was not who parked it when we arrived so we had to leave Portland earlier than planned. The car ran great once we charged the battery after it was drained. Also the car was not locked and the window was down in the back seat when we got there to see what the problem was. We would not choose valet again at this property.
