Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa

A pretty property with stellar views from our oceanfront room. Although there is no beach in the premises, it abuts a small harbor and cove with a beach park suitable for safe swimming. We spent one night here as the condo we had spent the week prior had a sewage disaster. We therefore did not have the ability to explore the facilities as much as we would have liked to. The main positive about staying here is that it is far away from the Fisherman wharf-like circus atmosphere of downtown Alii drive. The setting is gorgeous. Appears very family friendly.

Like all other resorts, unless you have transportation, you are beholden to the high costs of meals. $12 for a coffee and a scone may not seem outrageous if you’re staying at the Four Seasons, but it is akin to highway robbery elsewhere. The building structure is dated but in good repair. Resort fees are ridiculous. It would be so much better if instead of charging fees, the cost per room was $20 higher. A very silly practice used by many hotels to boost their bottom line.

Staff was terrific. Michael at check-in, Bruce at pool & towels, Marie at the restaurant. Michael worked with us after our booking at another place fell through. Bruce suggested a manta ray night snorkel that exceeded our expectations. (Eka Canoe Adventures) Marie was great when we ate at the restaurant counter or did take-away. We understand that the store is independent but the clerk (Delvin?) was good and a very hard worker.

Another on-property restaurant would be nice. We recognize that staff is stretched but would like another option.

We are familiar with the property as we have stayed a few other times. We returned because of the location, amenities and natural beauty. The pool areas are outstanding, although the furniture and umbrellas require an update. It was a plus to have the stand up paddle board daily as well as snorkel equipment available for rent right on site. The manta rays are a once in a lifetime experience so to see them nightly cannot be beat. We find it a peaceful and spacious property. Lots to do right where you are. Rooms require updating but were well appointed and beds were comfy. appreciate the built in shower clothesline and outdoor furniture. Friendly staff!

We were informed at check in of the renovation beginning. One of the pools was closed, as well as the pool bar and spa and the restaurant. (The cafe is still open and we were able to order the pool bar items in there and take with us-but for a surcharge). This information was not on the website so we were disappointed. That being said the staff was lovely and we were treated well including a late checkout to offset our late night flight home. Would also be nice to have parking included with the rate.

I booked this resort through Hawaiian airlines as a package deal, but for some wierd reason it came up in my booking.com account which meant I had 2 bookings and had to cancel one, the resort was very accommodating and helpful to sort it out. This resort is awesome, a little old and dated in parts but everything you need for a great stay, the pool is massive with heaps of space for everyone, even has a slide. Staff are fantastic and extremely helpful, the rooms was large and had a great bed.

The extra charges are off putting, $25 to park your own car, $30 for breakfast is okay but you can't get much for that, the dinning choices were a bit limited and drinks expensive but you are in one of the most beautiful places on the big island of Hawaii.

Awesome sized room and although not updated the room was not "outdated" and was super clean with awesome bedding and all amenities needed. Pool was amazing, meals were all exceptional; drinks were great as were happy hour specials; staff was super accomodating. Great location and views. Despite short staffed and Covid restrictions did not feel that we were missing out on anything!

Shower took 15 minutes to warm up; building needs some repairs; coffee is very expensive in morning; no food or drink service past 9pm.

Great place to stay with family. Karen at reception was very helpful at check-in and explained various options helpful to us. They have Manta Ray watch deck which is amazing. We could see the Rays from deck. Yuki at concierge desk helped me to book Manta Ray snorkel tour, which is just 7 minutes walk from property. Karen at reception helped us to book Fire and Feast Luau at the property, which happens on Monday & Thursday. They have offered $20 per person breakfast & early evening snacks & drinks per day. This property right next to Pacific ocean with nice walkway, garden with hammocks, beach chairs. Has many activities like, yoga, lei making, fitness classes, etc., which are included in $30 daily resort fee. They give cards for free beach towels.

Would have been nice to have more vegetarian food options in Fire & Feast Luau.

My daughters and I loved the manta ray deck, the pool, and the view. The grounds were great to walk around and the restaurant was better than I expected. Overall, I thought this was a great value and am a little surprised at the negative reviews.

The people working here were a little hit or miss. One of the snorkel kits they rented me was busted. Would've been an easy thing to comp but instead they made excuses about why it wasn't working.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay. The resort has beautiful landscape, the view of the ocean is amazing. It is clean and well-maintained, staff were very friendly and accommodating. pools, hot tub and restaurant were above expectations. We received gifts on arrival which was a pleasant surprise. Tours are available a short walk from the resort. Room was good overall. Safe was out of batteries, but security came and fixed it on request.

Manta ray observation deck is nice, but I could not get a good view of manta rays at night. It was not a big deal for us though. Hotel exterior is a little outdated and could use some reno. Apart from the hotel restaurant, most restaurants require a 15 min drive in the evening.

BRUCE AT THE POOL!!!! HE’S A TOP MAN! 10/10 service from him, we’d come back just because of him & one Valet guy!!! forgot to get his name :( but he always had high energy, always had a smile on his face and always greeted us every time we passed by. He was working when we checked out and took our luggage for storage. One gentleman who was a pool cleaner, and the garden service guys were also very lovely. Some of the best workers there! Love that there’s two seperate pools for adults. Our view was amazing :)

Lovely room overlooking the ocean, nice pool as well. Decent place, we had a good time.

Not much frankly except for one thing. That one weird thing was they said they didn't have rooms available for early check-in but if we paid them a fee of $100, they could get us a room. How does that work? You either have rooms available or you don't.
