Lovely warm friendly atmosphere. I ended up making quite a few good friends with the staff members especially Matty and Jemima who decided to take me for a little nighttime tour due to being on my own because my son was asleep!! Bearing in mind he was 22 and totally exhausted by the Sea air! Great night good laugh good people. Breakfast was perfect.

Really tried hard to stop the miserable emoji on this comment but for some reason it kept putting a sad one and it definitely deserved a really big happy one because that's how we both feel when we stayed!! I actually can't think of anything I didn't like about the place, I was a bit dubious about our room being next door to the kitchen, however once the door was shut, we could not hear a thing it was total silence and that peaceful we fell asleep straight away! The bottles of water in the room I was truly grateful for as we were so hot and the amazing selections of teasing coffees were as outstanding all very good quality which is very hard to find in a hotel nowadays.l. lovely bathroom just walking into the shower was such a great feeling instead of having to climb over things!

Ideal location and very genuine service with great menu. The staff were all very friendly, a proper pub with a varied menu including decent food that the chefs have taken effort and care to cook. Refreshing in the era of ‘wall to wall burgers’. I was disappointed that the lemon posset wasn’t available on the evening we stayed as it’s my favourite desert. One of the team, Jemima, went to trouble of arranging for the chefs to make some more in time for me to have one for breakfast the next day… not something I asked for, just something she thought I’d like… you can’t get better service than that! It was a damn fine lemon posset too, as was the rest of the breakfast. This is one of those pubs that exceeds your expectations and where you still find a bit of genuine character and friendly charm. 🙂

Nothing not to like…

Evening meal was excellent, as was breakfast. Even though they were apparently short staffed due to illness, the food came quickly, and all staff were friendly and calm. The room was lovely, comfortable, big enough for 3 of us. Could partially see sea from the room which was a bonus.

All were things mentioned by the hotel and previous reviews, so no surprises - Weds night was quiet but Thursday was much noisier - some pub noise and also street, but not unexpected (Oct half term) - Parking was a little walk away but we had a permit from the hotel so can't complain! Took a while to get a space, needed to wait in car for 5/10 mins, no biggie. - It took a while to get seen by staff on arrival, and given key to room, as they were very busy (and short staffed apparently) but they saw to us as soon as they could

Breakfast was great with quick service and nothing was too much trouble! Bath was incredible, pressure was great on the shower, bed was comfy but may be too soft for some, fridge in the room to chill down water/beer/wine. Asked if we wanted to book table for dinner before our stay as they knew they were going to be busy.

Some of the fixtures in the room were beginning to show their age, but this is to be expected in a comfy inn and didn't at all detract from our experience! TV needs updating to smarter bracket and TV.

Beautiful room, great breakfast. Great location. Lovely staff...it was my birthday over our stay, and the lady serving us breakfast gave me a glass of fizz once she found out which was such a lovely gesture!.

Parking permit was not available after being told before arrival that it would be. But they did knock off the parking charges incurred during our stay which was fine in the end.

It was well located in the middle of the village. The room was nicely decorated & clean with good facilities like an iron. The bathroom was also nice with a very good shower. I liked having a coffee machine in my room & the staff were very friendly. I would stay there again

We were directly over the bar & there was a Christmas party on. Though it did finish by midnight. You should not drive to the place as turning round can be very difficult. Though they did give us a free pass to park in a local car park. Driving to the car park would be best The cooked breakfast was good & included a good coffee but there was not the usual fruit-juice, yogurt or fresh fruit.

We loved our stay at the Fortescue! The staff on arrival were really helpful and friendly. Our room was lovely and spacious and the bathroom was gorgeous. Breakfast we delicious and we would definitely stay again if we return to Salcombe.

There is no parking, so it is necessary to walk 5 minutes or so to the local public car park, which looked as though it was going to be considerably reduced in size in the near future. The inn has parking permits but they only allow you to park at the designated car park and spaces are entirely first come first served. Having said that, we had no problem finding a space and the walk was flat and not very far. Our room was also up a narrow flight of stairs and there was a light outside the window that we could not block out. These are not major issues though and mainly I am mentioning them for people who have any mobility issues.

The hotel/pub was in a perfect position and you could walk to North Sands or get a ferry across to other beautiful beaches. The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you, so thank you for that. We ate twice in the restaurant in the evening and the food was superb. I would highly recommend the Salcombe crab salad and the monkfish and prawn curry. The breakfast was also delicious. The view of the bustling street from our window was a joy to watch, especially watching the evergrowing queue at the Bakehouse, which is a must to get your picnic lunch from! If you don't mind a little noise and plenty going on then this is the place for you. The room had every facility you could ask for. Thank you to everyone who made our stay extra special. Mr and Mrs Thorn xxx

You do not want to be driving through the town unless essential. You are given a permit for The Creek car park which is only 7 minute walk from the hotel. Because it was full during the day, we parked at the park and ride and walked into town as the buses weren't running. About a 20 min walk downhill and a reasonable price. We moved the car early evening so it was close by for the luggage when we left. (A very steep walk back up!). You could always get a taxi.

The staff apart from one was very helpful and lovely, the room was outstanding and breakfast very tasty

The long walk to the car park with luggage, one female member of staff very rude when I arrived, I waited outside as the notice asked, nobody came to the door ask what I wanted, I asked a lady as she passed excuse me can I ask a question, she said not now I'm busy, I will be with you in a minute, I said I only want to ask something, she ignored me and walked passed me yet again, when she eventually came to the door, I said I only wanted to know where the Car park is, as we are staying this evening, she suddenly changed her tune, she said o h sorry you are living with us tonight, I said yes, but felt like saying after this welcome I don't want to stay here
