The location of the hotel is fantastic - step out of the door and you are immediately on a beautiful sandy beach (North Sands). It’s quiet and there are no local shops/restaurants (other than the hotel’s) but this was what we wanted. Beautiful walks on your doorstep. The tractor/boat to Salcombe was not running (unsure whether this was because of the weather or the fact that it is out of season - early November). The hotel is dog friendly. Parking is free - car park opposite hotel. The room (superior double) was a good size. No sea view sadly but a nice view of a tree. The bathroom was very large with a lovely bath and in-bath shower. Nice bath robes provided. The breakfast was lovely - plenty of choice - I had the full English (very good), my husband had mushrooms on sourdough toast. Full veggie English, Eggs Benedict and porridge also options. Lots of cereal, pastries and fruit as extras. The staff were friendly and laid back. They didn’t mind us borrowing wine glasses for the room. There was a useful little fridge in the room for snacks and wine….

The cleaners only hoovered our floor on one of our 3 nights. As we were coming in from the beach all the time, the flow was like a sandpit….. Other than this, the room was clean.

The hotel has it’s own car park which was very welcome after a rather tortuous journey on narrow lanes to get there. Lovely airy room, tastefully decorated, with a good sized, comfy bed. Stunning views across the estuary from the public rooms. Dinners in the restaurant were excellent as was breakfast.

Not a lot to dislike really. The hotel is a little further out of Salcombe than we’d anticipated and some may find the 30 minute or so walk a little challenging due to steep uphill climbs and traffic. Having said that, we did notice adverts for a ferry so that would make the trip into Salcombe easier. The only other minus was the lack of a lift which was a bit of a nuisance when our room was on the 2nd floor and we don’t travel light.

It is set in the bay of south sands right on the beach! The attention to detail is incredible. So clean yet a dog friendly hotel! Our room was just beautiful looking out to sea.

There is nothing about the property I can fault tbh. I guess the narrow one car road is frustrating at times but if coming to Devon you always bare this in mind. It’s how there is a gem sitting there waiting for you.

The location was amazing on the South Sands coast and a lovely quiet area with access to the main town. Staff were very obliging and friendly. I had dinner there as well as breakfast and the food was exceptional. I was due to stay there last December but due to a death in the family I had to cancel at short notice. The hotel very kindly refunded my money so I felt I'd like to stay there again when I got the chance. I'd come again which is the highest praise I can give a hotel.

Stunning quiet location on the beach. Beautiful small hotel, high quality breakfast, tastefully decorated. Changing tide was fascinating. Loved the ferry into Salcombe. Our dog lived like a Queen with so many caring touches to make her comfortable! Loved ‘Bo’s’ next door for pizza. Fish and chips were great on the balcony.

No lift. Not a dog beach but next one is. Top floor was very warm so we had to have our window opened the whole time which worked well.

Location was perfect for us, access from the hotel directly on to an adjacent beach. Walks abundant. Lanes are narrow so care is needed if car is used. Hotel car park Rooms were great. (Just note, the hotel is dog friendly and there is the occasional doggy smell or doggy accident ). Breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked and quality produce used. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Just be aware that, if needed, there is no lift. Must be difficult to navigate the narrow lanes in busy times

We swam in the icy sea which I highly recommend as it is so close to the hotel with a sandy beach which made the going in to the water much easier ! Then to go and find that the Breakfast was delicious, a menu to suit all palettes . The location was utterly beautiful we walked the coastal paths marvelling at the views , to fall asleep with the waves lapping at the shore was the perfect end to a very happy day . We dined in the restaurant both evenings of our stay enjoying the varied well thought out menu . We will be back ..

Very friendly staff, very accommodating with requests. Chose to have a meal at the restaurant and they were able to accommodate. Full English is good. (lacking beans, imo). Smashed avocado is also very good. Rooms very clean, the shower is excellent. locatoon is out of this world. You can't rely on the British weather, but get it right and it's truly a beautiful spot.

Bed was really, really hard. I like a firm mattress, but this was like sleeping on a door. They don't provide any transport back into Salcombe after the ferry has stopped running. We'd booked an evening meal in Salcombe town, but had to cancel as we couldn't get there without walking. Taxis won't come out unless booked WEEKS! in advance. (I bet the new Hilton opposite offers it!)

Superb location. Really good breakfast in a beautifully appointed restaurant with great view onto beach. Afternoon drinks relaxing on the balcony was a highlight.

Day 2 , in our opinion they were understaffed and we felt we had to work a little to get noticed and served at times and a certain member of staff was not dealing with this well. However this was resolved on day 3 with additional staff and a fresh attitude.
