The actual room excelled our expectations - quirky, comfy and exceptionally clean. The pub was in an idyllic and picturesque location. Initially some of the staff seemed rather brusque but we soon got to know them. In fact the kitchen staff went out of their way to keep the kitchen open a little later and cook us a meal when we were unaware of their closing times. It is also useful to know that they actually reserve table for guests staying every night just in case you do want to eat there. Food of a high standard as supplied by local producers. Fresh milk and bottled water supplied daily, which was appreciated.

A guide booklet of some sort in the room would be very useful- times of meals, pub opening hours etc. We were unaware that the room would not be serviced daily unless requested. Little things like a top up of tea bags, removal of dirty cups would be good. The rooms are in a separate building, meaning you need to go outside next door for breakfast, they are also up some very steep stairs-not an issue for us but might be for some. The location is very rural and too far/ dangerous to walk to any other restaurants/ inns.

We stayed over the coronation weekend and the team put the coronation on in the pub for us. It was so kind! The food was fantastic - especially our evening meal! The service was great and our waitress (Alice/Alex) was lovely. The staff were friendly and the accommodation was lovely. Great selection of biscuits and drinks in the room and great decor. The shower was really good and we had everything we needed. The drinks menu was extensive and we were able to open a tab (for both food and drinks) and pay at the end of our stay. We will be back for food if not to stay again!

I didn’t realise it was quite such a hilly area so we didn’t manage to walk around the property but we had a car so was fine. The car park is a little small and the toilets in the restaurant/pub were extremely slippy when they had cleaned the floor!!!

We had such a lovely stay, the beds were so comfortable. The room was lovely and the quiet you get through the night was perfect. The room was lovely and clean, the bathroom was spotless. Free tea/coffee and fresh water available was a lovely touch. We ate downstairs on the first night and even though the menu was limited due to staff shortage, we were not kept waiting long and the food was delicious. Every staff member we met was lovely and friendly.

Breakfast options could have been better but due to a staff shortage, this meant options were limited. We did have to wait around for a long time for a bacon sandwich when we were the only ones eating. We ended up having to take it away as we had booked a bus tour that we had to leave for.

From the moment we entered the front, & despite having never been there before. We weren't just made to feel welcome, we were made to feel like family returning home. All the staff are absolutely amazing. Nothing is too much trouble for any of them. They all run as a team. I still don't know who is in charge. No matter who you speak to you get the same very high standard of service. They are all so very friendly, polite & extremely professional. There is none of this "I'll just get such a body to deal with this for you." Whoever you ask just deals with it, right then & there. I can't ever remember feeling so pampered. The hotel it's self is a magnificent building. Steeped in history, but with very tastefully incorporated modern touches. Exquisitely decorated to give a welcoming, warm & homely feel. A sort of traditional & modern meets shabby chic. It is situated in a quite secluded village not far from Kendal. So, it's lovely & peaceful at night, but you don't have to travel far to get some excitement other than the Wheatsheaf. Now the food, Wow! It's a modest menu, but it is excellent. Very well presented & so very, very tasty. I booked this weekend as a birthday treat for my wife. I could not have wished for a better all round experience. I hope it's not too long before I visit there again. Thank you so much.

Having to return home & that's all.

We had a very late arrival time and Eva was extremely kind to stay behind late to check us in. She was super attentive and caring and made sure we were comfortable with everything before she left. She met us again for breakfast and ensured we had everything we wanted, showing such care and professionalism. The only downside to our very short stay was that we didn’t get to spend enough time there!

Nothing at all.

Very cosy and friendly place… loved that it was so dog friendly,as we were stopping over for one night on the way back from Scotland, back home to wales… great food, great bar staff , and lovely waitress that showed us our room, and served breakfast

The only thing that was slightly uncomfortable, was that our loft room was extremely hot and stuffy, but to be fair it was an extremely hot day/evening, and we were offered a fan… unfortunately the velux window wasn’t quite enough, for a hot night in that particular room

Loved the location and the fact that it was also a pub - really handy for dinner and drinks!

Dinner menu was a little overpriced.

The location was absolutely stunning, lovely rural quite village. Everthing about our stay was lovely. Staff couldn't do enough for us. Such a warm welcome from John as soon as we stepped through the door. Breakfast was fantastic, quality produce and having the log burner on while we ate breakfast made it. Just gorgeous. The fresh milk and water for the room was a great touch. The place is a Real gem. Such a wonderful stay.

Nothing really, but the rooms could have been a little cleaner but certainly didn't spoil our stay.

Our cozy warm room was beautifully appointed - a very comfy bed, lovely bed linen, the bathroom was nicely decorated and equipped with a powerful shower over the bath and great complementary toiletries. Chilled water to drink and chilled milk to hot drinks were a nice touch. We didn't get the chance to sample breakfast as we had to leave early for a long journey but we'll look forward to trying this when we visit again. Our dogs were made welcome too and enjoyed their warm overnight snooze.

We'd love an EV charger on site
