The staff were great, friendly and polite. Our room was recently refurbished with the bedroom on the ground level off the courtyard which was very quiet. We found the double bed very comfortable though we are used to a super-king. The room temperature could be adjusted easily for comfort. In the bar/restaurant, the food was of very good quality and offered a varied selection of dishes. The breakfast was generous with a large selection of fruit, cereals and a well cooked breakfast. Lastly, it was very dog friendly and our dog could be with us at dinner and breakfast.

The open-plan bathroom up a flight off stairs was a little inconvenient for us personally but the bathroom itself was modern, clean, spacious with quality fittings and excellent large shower.

Very friendly staff, whether cleaners, bar staff or owners. Breakfast was fabulous set you up for the day. Evening meals were lovely and relaxing not rushed. The Shepherds Hut was ideal having a dog, lots of space to exercise near enough the pub but secluded. The hut had everything you needed, including a fridge and as we stayed during the heat wave was needed.

Without losing the character of the shepherd’s hut another window would useful, as you couldn’t leave doors open at night, although we did stay during a heat wave!

I was made to feel very welcome. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The Inn was very clean and the room was well-equipped with plenty of tea making materials and the bathroom was excellent with a good selection of toiletries. The breakfast choice was wonderful and the cooked breakfast was fresh and beautifully cooked. Evening meals were super with plenty of choice. The location is lovely too, surrounded by hills and there are plenty of outside seating areas.

I liked everything. I'd love to go back and take friends and family.

Location superb, exactly what I needed immediately after a sudden unexpected family death. I was in a Shepherd's Hut behind the Inn; wonderfully peaceful. Being a woman on my own didn't feel awkward at all, wonderful meals, dining area etc, staff really looked after us so well at all times

There was a very bright fire alarm light in the living area of the Shepherd's Hut, which flashed constantly, making it very difficult to get back to sleep if I awoke during the night. A curtain along the open edge of the bed would resolve that. Also a small hob for cooking simple meals rather than (or in addition to) the microwave would be good.

This hotel was excellent! It's quite expensive, but I stayed here for a backpacking trip around the peak district. The staff was accommodating to what I was here for, they were very excited for me and took great care of everything. The room is as you would expect, the bed was acceptable, pillows are always questionable in hotels, and the bathroom was excellent. I can't justify fully the cost that it was, but in the area, this was the best option due to the price and the fact that the hiking trail started just in front of the pub. Their food was excellent as well, I had lunch after I finished and the staff was as helpful and even asked me how the hike and camping went. If I have hiking trails in the vicinity again I'd stay here for sure.

The room was a bit basic for the cost, but I think the area is quite expensive in general so maybe that's reasonable. Locking the door required putting considerable force on the door. And my sink in the bathroom didn't seem to have any hot water.

Everything. This place is a gem. Very clean and comfortable. The breakfast is wonderful, lots of variety. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The location is fabulous. There is a lovely walking trail across the road. You can take a beautiful walk along the river and enjoy the stunning scenery. Local bus to Bakewell or Castleton. Very easy to get around on the local buses. Plus very close to the train station. Its a about 10 minute walk but quite a lot of up and down. Quite hilly and your legs will get a good workout. But the scenery is just perfect. You will feel like you are in a postcard. Book now. You will love it.

I liked everything.

Great location - walks from the door, or a short drive to some classic peak walks. Superb breakfast - full fry up plus loads of cereal/yoghurt/baked stuff/juices. Very friendly staff.

Stayed in quadruple room. Reserved quite late and paid full whack but still felt the price was quite high, even taking into account cost of alternatives. Dinner in the restaurant was friendly, but a bit slow. Food was fine but again, on the pricey side.

Excellent breakfast. Fabulous choice of very high quality food. All staff went out of their way to help. Even offered to carry our big dog up stairs as he was getting older. Nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful setting, gardens and inn. Very well tended.

Booking . Com stated no charge for dogs. It was £15 a night but we paid it happily. Think this could be altered on the booking. com booking page

Superb menu at dinner and breakfast. Very personable and attentive staff. Great room and fabulous location.

Larger portion size at dinner would have been good on this occasion - After a hard day walking, my wife and I needed to "re-fuel" and both found our main courses a little small to satisfy our hunger that evening, so, we ordered additional side dishes to "bulk up". This said, all that arrived was exceptionally tasty, well presented and promptly delivered. I would definitely recommend going for all three courses at dinner as we did on the 2nd night of our stay. There was however, a wide selection on offer and ample quantity of food available at breakfast! Again, we could not fault the quality or service.

Wonderful authentic inn vibes. Stayed in the Shepherds Huts behind the venue at the river for 3 nights which were clean, very cozy and well equipped; made a wood fire even! The food at the inn (both the included breakfast and other dinner options) were delicious and staff very friendly.

Not much to dislike! if anything, slightly patchy WiFi and low shower pressure at times (but this was noted in the guest book so wasn’t unexpected).
