On arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown to our room (room 4) by Amy, which set the tone, as all the staff we subsequently met were polite, helpful and very friendly. The room was a small double, as advertised, (all that was available as we booked at short notice), so I now have a few bruises from catching the corner of the bed walking round to my side. However, it was adequate with the space used well and contained everything we needed. The room was well decorated and spotless, and the drinks tray contained tea and coffee, with bone china cups and saucers and a cafetiere. Two bottles of local beer were a lovely addition, which may have been because it was New Year's Eve. The bathroom was clean, with a very good, powerful shower over the bath and the towels were soft and fluffy. Breakfast was delicious - my husband had the full English and I had Eggs Royale. The additional self service breakfast buffet was basic but fine, with a choice of cereals, plain yoghurt and a toaster with a basket of brown and white bread, jam and honey. It would have been good to have also had some crumpets and fresh fruit, but that's just a minor niggle. It was a wonderful stay and we will definitely stay again. If we were staying for longer than one night we would need a bigger room as storing luggage would be an issue in the small double. As lovely as the Devonshire Arms is, the very best thing about it is the staff, who are an absolute credit to the business.

We got a complimentary upgrade to the four poster bedroom which was lovely. Staff were really nice and food was excellent. Breakfast was great and loved being so close to Chatsworth for walks.

It was a bit noisy in the room, I think the boiler system for the whole hotel must have been in the corridor outside the room. Saying that we had a good nights sleep once we got used to the sounds. Parking was an issue as it was Sunday lunch when we arrived so they were busier than usual. Might be a good idea to save some spots for overnight guests.

Wow! I was really impressed with the Devonshire Arms! The staff were super friendly and really attentive. I took my dog and I was over the moon with how dog friendly they were! They offered him a sausage for breakfast and I think he'd have gladly stayed there forever! I booked the ground floor room with the out door terrace. It was a little more expensive than the other rooms, but I personally felt it was worth it (would've been more so if we'd had good weather to sit outside!) The room was spacious with a lovely seating area. The bed was super comfortable and it was convenient to be able to nip outside with the dog. We ate dinner on the first night which was lovely. Breakfast each morning was good too. There isn't a vast range to choose from, but what they do serve is good quality. We also had drinks and bar snacks on the second night, which were good too. I'd definitely recommend if you're in the area!

Only slight downside, the bathroom in our bedroom was a bit small and could do with a revamp, but it didn't spoil anything. I read several reviews complaining about the noise of the pipes, creaking floorboards etc. You can definitely hear noises, but again, it didn't stop us from sleeping or cause any problems.

The bed was very comfy The food was lovely The bar and dining room very nice Car park very good The staff were excellent The location was spot on We had a strange experience at 8.15am this morning. The internal door flew open. I saw three circular orbs and the lamp on my (right hand side) of the bed flickered several times. My husband said all the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. I didn't feel afraid but definitely felt a presence and I don't believe in ghosts. Its very strange that we came away because we were very upset about something happening in our family and its as if something or someone was trying to tell us something.

The decor, bathroom, outside terrace area needed updating and sprucing up which would have made our stay a little more special.

Very welcoming team. Excellent location for visiting Chatsworth and surrounding area. evening meal was plentiful and tasty. Lots of lovely choices for breakfast. Bar very comfy, selection of wines/beer very good. Courtesy 2 bottles of their own left in room which was delicious. Bed very comfy, good shower.

View of carpark from room. Room was tight but it did mention that it was a small double. Bathroom could do with refresh and windows either need a good clean or possibly blown, regardless view was of carpark.

We were upgraded to a small suite as there had been a flood in the room originally allocated to us, lots of thoughtful touches like a couple of complementary bottles of local beer and lovely toiletries. Supper was very good, the chips were some of the best we’ve ever eaten, and breakfast was only short of fruit to move it from good to excellent. Every member of staff we interacted with was very friendly and helpful. We chose to stay here simply because of its proximity to Hardwick Hall but it was actually a very good choice from all perspectives, not just location.

Stayed here when on a camping holiday and we had got very wet the day before. Great room (if a little small) in a modern annex behind a very nice Inn. Very good location in a beautiful small village, on the doorstep of Chatsworth. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was lovely and plentiful. Breakfast was also good. My other half is a vegetarian and she had lots of choice both in the evening and

Car park is a little small, we struggled to get in when we arrived. Bathroom was a bit dated and probably needs refurbishment but perfectly serviceable

Breakfast was fantastic. It was great to have options outside a Full English. It was cooked to perfection. Staff were super friendly and accommodating, too. There was a bit of confusion regarding whether or not they received payment, but they got us settled in and came to us later with a resolution.

This isn't a criticism of just the Devonshire Arms, but eating dinner out has become very expensive in the UK. I think we spent as much on meals at the pub (meals that we thoroughly enjoyed) as we did on the cost of accommodation.

I would highly recommend😃 I stayed at The Devonshire Arms for 2 nights for a change of scenery to work. All of the staff were so welcoming, the rooms were decorated to good taste and were very clean. With coffee/tea making facilities in the room, fresh bed linen and towels. There were a couple of bottles of complimentary beer in the room which were produced locally - really nice touch😃 The Devonshire arms welcome dogs and is very dog friendly, My dog Betty was given a treat at breakfast. The breakfast as was the bar/restaurant food was delicious with a good menu to choose from. Chatsworth Park is literally on your doorstep, a beautiful walk to Chatsworth House and beyond to the woods situated behind Chatsworth House. A short car journey to Bakewell where I purchased some yummy Bakewell puddings from the original baker shop on the high street. It was the perfect setting to get away for a couple of nights, work, relax and explore. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and cannot wait to return in the future. Looking forward to exploring in the summer months. Thank-you to all the staff at The Devonshire Arms 😃❤

Just the pillows, a difficult one to get right for everyone.

Upon arrival, we were greeted well and shown our room promptly. Information about the hotel, restaurant and local area was given to us in a polite, conversational way. The room was well sized and was much more than I expected. The complimentary home brewed beer has certainly not hindered my positive feedback. Food was excellent as were most of the staff we talked with who showed a passion for both the Devonshire arms and the Peak District as a whole! Would recommend to anyone who wants a quiet getaway, espescially those travelling to Bakewell and Chatsworth (bus stop is only a few metres from the property)

The only issue we had was when taking a shower. There isn't a proper curtain/glass shield to stop the water going onto the floor. However, this isn't something which should dampen your spirits when considering a room at The Devonshire Arms!
