The hotel was in a lovely setting, with original features. The staff were warm and friendly. The room was comfortable. Ample clothes hanging space and drawers. Breakfast was delicious, plenty of choice. It was my birthday during our stay and we opted for the Giant Yorkshire pudding filled with roast beef and vegetables... it was amazing! There are 2 beaches within 5 minutes of the hotel, which is a bonus.

The bathroom could do with an extra shelf. There is a tiny shelf over the basin, but once your toothbrush is there, there's no space for toiletries. Also an extra hand towel would have been handy, to dry your hair! The tv was on it's last legs, it was difficult to turn on and off and randomly changed channels when turning the volume up and down. Or maybe it was a problem with the remote! I don't mean to sound negative as we really enjoyed our stay.

The room was warm and comnfortable, breakfast was served very efficiently. My evening meal was very enjoyable.

When I went down to the restaurant for my evening meal I would normally expect to be shown to a table to make my choices from the menu. However I was taken to a seating area to wait, then asked go to the bar where I chose my meal. Then waited to be taken back to the restaurant . It just seemed a little odd but it was fine. Maybe it could have been explained to me. The staff are all lovely so no issues at all with them.

All the staff we met were so helpful and welcoming. When we arrived the last in reception was so lovely, friendly, welcoming, chatty and helpful, she even asked if we needed help with our bags, showed is exactly where our room was. Breakfast was amazing and the staff serving breakfast was so accommodating, friendly and service was fabulous. We stayed in Room 10 and the bed was so comfy, everything was clean and everything was in there that we needed for a 1 night stay. The setting where the hotel is located is do pretty, beautiful grounds and the outdoor bar was an extra added bonus, to be able to sit on the front of the hotel, having a drink in the warm sunshine, looking at the beauty thst surrounded us. Will be definitely recommending.

We loved everything

what an amazing building. it's old. I find it interesting and love hotels that are different. the staff were all polite professional and friendly the barman refused to sell a customer the huge amount of sambuca he asked for. I thought the barman handled the situation perfectly. I was very impressed we both slept like logs and didn't want to get out of the massive comfortable bed. however we are so pleased we did. there was nothing advertised about the breakfast therefore we had no idea what to expect. the breakfast was honestly the best I've had in my 48 years of life. other guests were also making comment about how fantastic it was. I hardly eat breakfast, but this blew me away and I ate the lot. I will most definitely return.

I have thought hard but cannot say anything negative about this hotel if you expect perfection stay in a chain hotel. this is different

The hotel is a hidden gem..like home from home.stayed in room 6...

I had porridge and me and my wife both had a cooked breakfast,I asked that she have the breakfast as I got porridge, because she is a slow eater and I thought it rude to leave her to wait while I had porridge...I recieved porridge and my wife relieved breakfast, then when I had finished porridge,my breakfast came which had obviously been cooked at the same time as my wife's and kept warm,it was totally dried up....not a good method.

Lovely manor house set in peaceful gardens, ideal wedding venue and well located for exploring Durham City and the beautiful East Durham coast. Good range of breakfast options and evening meals. Five minutes drive from the A19.

My bedroom (Room 11) had a step surrounding the bed. Fortunately I remembered and had no falls or slips during the night. I wasn't offered help with my bags, which were heavy with camera equipment, and my room was at the top of the house, with up and down stairs to negotiate.

Great breakfast, really friendly staff, despite the stairs up (it is a listed building so no lifts and the was an offer of help) and the room was large wit a king bed and plenty of storage. The menu for the evening meal was varied, extensive and affordable. The quality and choice of food was the best in the 20 hotels I have stayed in this year.

The pillows were horrible! Everything else in the hotel was of good quality - the towels for example- but the cheap foam in the uncomfortable pillows was a letdown.

This beautiful manor house is a lovely place where weddings and special occasions are celebrated. Both locals & guests enjoyed the hotel’s bar/pub and the restaurant’s food was tasty & generous. My large, nicely furnished room looked out to the sea & was very quiet. The staff was very nice. I will stay again at my next visit.

The room was cold, the bedding was lightweight without a spare blanket or comforter & the property’s central radiator was still off. There are many stairs, so those who may have difficulty walking & climbing should inquire about their room location.

Comfortable garden view room which I paid extra for. Ideally situated for my area I wished to visit Menu was varied and of good value

After ordering the evening meal we had to wait 10 mins to be served and 30 mins wait for the main. although it was not busy. The staff did not appear to be friendly and talkative apart from two, A shelf is needed in the bathroom to puy your toilet needs on

Staff were amazing throughout my stay. Room was great, well kept and a very large, comfy bed. Both evening meal & breakfast were fantastic. Great choice at the bar as well.

The shower in my room was a let down! After a long hard day of working & travelling, certainly in the very hot weather of this week, a decent powerful shower to refresh would have much appreciated. Unfortunately, the 1 in my room was an older style shower, teh water dibbled out & had no oomph behind it. the only negative part of my stay in all honesty & what stopped me giving it top marks.
