The room was a good size, the en-suite was spacious and the shower was easy to operate and had a good water pressure. Large beer garden was excellent, good parking, good selection behind the bar, very pleasant staff, food was good, bed was very comfortable all be it a bit bouncy for my liking i.e. when the wife moved so did I. Good T n coffee making facilities.

The stairs were a tad steep, the room door lock was rather fiddley to operate, to many cushions on the bed, with nowhere to put them. While the two meals, I had, were nice I did think that there was a lack of selection and a tad on the dear side, but I did enjoy them both. The dining rooms, with exception of the conservatory one, were fairly featureless and we felt a bit cut off from everyone i.e. hard to get a waiters attention if they are not hovering about. This may be due to most places finding it hard to find staff.

We stayed in a large, beautifully decorated room, with very comfortable bed, and large shower. There were lovely extra touches like videos to borrow, and tea, coffee and biscuits in the room. The hotel was very clean. The meals were served in the conservatory, overlooking a lovely beer garden. All the meals were very large and beautifully cooked. All the staff were very helpful. The hotel was very popular. The beach and local restaurants were also really nice, and busy, but not too crowded. We had a lovely stay.

Fascinating grade 2 star listed building, quite unique. Our room (the Pink) was large and attractive although the shower room was very compact. Food was good and served in a garden room overlooking a delightful rear garden. The breakfasts were generous, The dining room and bar were busy - possibly because Combe Martin has little else to offer apart from the Pack O Cards

The 'large' double was a 5 foot queen and was a little tired. Combe Martin is disappointing as a destination - few facilities and no buildings of note apart from the hotel. However you can reach the delightful and historic Lynton/Lynmouth in less than 30 minutes or reach the facilities and beaches of Ilfracombe and Wollacombe even quicker.

A lovely old Inn in the centre of Combe Martin (about half a mile from the small cove/coast). Our room (Fuschia) was very spacious, quiet and comfortable and the tea, coffee, biscuits etc were replenished daily, which is unusual these days. The Inn had a proper bar room, which again is unusual - the restaurants were separate from the bar, which was nice and I believe a couple of the restaurants were "dog friendly". Very large garden with children's play area and plenty of benches to sit out at with a small stream at the bottom. Ample car parking. Breakfasts were first class - everything you could possibly want. All members of staff were really nice, friendly and helpful - couldn't fault them at all. The location of the Inn for walks along the coastal path (both ways) was ideal and the scenery was beautiful. Not a great deal to do in Combe Martin if you aren't a walker or like water sports.

We had a couple of evening meals at the Inn. I thought the food was quite expensive but on looking around at the other places in the vicinity, it was no different. Perhaps shows how long it is since we have eaten out! The portions were very large, eg fish and chips - the piece of fish was huge!! - too big for us and we are good eaters, but very tasty. I did have the vegan thai curry one night and was disappointed with the amount of vegetables in it. Very expensive for a portion of rice, small naan bread and very little veg (albeit was in a tasty thai curry sauce).

I will never stay at a hotel with more character than the Pack of Cards. If you need just a bed, a Premier Inn/motel place is all very well, but if you want to live, and have a bit of adventure you need to be checking out places like this. North Devon is full of quirky accommodation but this is peak North Devon character for me. Staff very natural and friendly, much like everybody else in Combe Martin which is locally known for friendliness.

I had dinner, ordering two quite luxury dishes on a very slow Monday night. Food was perfectly good but some of the bread seemed less than fresh. It was completely out of season and the venue is probably struggling along with everyone else so I'm actually happy to have got any food at all.

My wife stayed for one night with her sister, so these are her thoughts. Landlord - supposed to be miserable but we thought not. He had a wicked sense of humour which was similar to ours, lots of banter. He did know when to stop, disappear and let us get on with our visit though. He was really helpful and a gentleman. The rooms were clean and tidy with plenty of towels and a really good hospitality tray. The evening meal was great, well cooked and different to 'run of the mill' pubs. Breakfast was excellent, well cooked and HOT! Again attentive host who made sure we had all we needed and wanted. Poured resin pictures for sale, unfortunately I could not afford any. Good parking. Good, fast wifi.

Disappointed that the 'museum' had disappeared rather than it being updated and made a feature. I visited about 7 years ago and had a look around it. I understand it has now been turned into a function room - understandable to bring in more revenue though. Maybe the history could be included in the information in the room - I had to Google it to share with my sister.

Being a fisherman and being away from home and living a pretty hard life for 2 weeks at a time. Myself and Mrs v really enjoy our weekend breaks together. We have stayed in many a hotel in Devon and Cornwall. The pack o cards is right up at the top. As you can imagine we have been disappointed at some supposedly nice hotels. The staff were all so helpful and extremely friendly. Even the locals were lovely. Ha mind I was local some 30 odd years ago. Fantastic and a big thank you to all for a truly memorable weekend.

The family who run the pack of cards are really friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. I suffer with intolerance to wheat and dairy and they were really brilliant and clued up on what I could have and it was lovely not to feel that I was causing an inconvenience as I have been made to feel on some occasions. The food was lovely and our room was beautiful and the amenities in the room were as good if not better than some four and five star hotels we have Stayed in.

Pleasant and helpful staff. Comfortable bed, bedroom had more or less everything one could want, within reason. Decent breakfast. The smoked haddock was actually a fish called basa (I was told on ordering it). OK but not as good as haddock. The poached eggs were excellent. The full English looked good. If one didn't want a cooked brek, the choice was a bit limited.

Nothing, really. Too many cushions in the bedroom (6 on the bed, in addition to the pillows!), hardly a major defeciency.

A spacious room and very quiet considering the hotel had a busy bar and restaurant, Nicely decorated room in historic building. We liked having a teapot in the room and a carpet in the bathroom. Cooked breakfast was .very good. We enjoyed the carvery on Sunday.

Slightlly restricted choice of uncooked breakfast selection. No fresh fruit as shown in web site photos or pastries.
