It looked like a boutique hotel so exquisite and posh. I've stayed in many hotels but this one was different. The hotel are so eco friendly that even the room key is made of wood. The packaging for things in the room are environmentally friendly. The bathroom was so lush. I had an amazing bubble bath 2 nights in a row, felt like it was a spa. The room decor was state of the art and the surroundings were peaceful. I'm a university of Essex Alumni so it was nice to go to the campus with my family and reminisce on a decade ago of life on campus. I would definitely stay again. Also to add the amazing cot they had for my baby, it had wheels how genius! Much better than the cot in the last hotel I stayed in which was linen over a board in a cheap style travel cot. This hotel exudes excellence and I highly recommend.

The floorboards are creaky so you could hear noise from room above even though ceiling is high.

Spacious double room with a comfortable bed and large ensuite shower. There is a big TV. The breakfast buffet was extensive with various cereals, yogurt and fruit, smoked salmon, croissants and toast, ham and cheeses, plus a full range of cooked options. Parking is right outside the front of the hotel and staff are helpful. Fortunately the music from the wedding party on the ground floor finished at midnight.

Staff warned me that the availability of taxis to Wivenhoe was limited, reception tried ringing for one but were told it would be over two hours to wait. I walked the two miles to town instead and got a bus back later on.

Breakfast was great, and staff were helpful. Bed was comfortable and clean.

Price of drinks and mixers was extortionate compared to other hotels. We were there for an awards night with 120 others and the the service for the 3 course meal was abysmal. Some people had finished desert when others were still receiving mains. Food was cold and poor quality. It took over 3 hours from start to finish. Which meant DJ that was paid for didn't start till 10.45pm. I would suggest instead of staff bringing 2 plates at a time a trolly with each tables order for 10 people would of been a good idea. Hotel was great and staff helpful. But overpriced drinks and poor food ruined the evening.

I arrived at the hotel to attend a conference held at the nearby university. The staff was great and helped me with a personal problem that arose during the conference. The breakfast is hot and good, dinners are excellent and at a fair price. Definitely recommend staying at this hotel. Special thanks to the hotel staff.

Love the atmosphere and vibes of Wivenhoe House Hotel and the fact that it was so close to the university campus. We were able to walk down to my daughter's graduation ceremony. Living in a 200 year old property definitely made the experience worthwhile!

I did not get the chance to live in the main mansion but in the new extension. And the breakfast service was quite slow with the waitress forgetful about what we ordered but still the pros well outweighed the cons.

The staff were extremely helpful, especially the reception and restaurant staff. The blonde female restaurant manager (apologies as I didn’t get her name) and Lionel went above and beyond to accommodate our group of 14 people for meals and drinks and even set up the table in the outdoor marquee to ensure we could all be seated together for breakfast. The rooms in the main building were big, nicely decorated and the beds were really large and comfortable. It was also extremely quiet! The grounds of the hotel were very well kept and a nice place for a morning walk in the sun or to play outside with my 2 year old. We were really happy to have a safe, clean space for him to run around in. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay again!

The rooms were clean and spacious and the staff were professional. The free water in the fridge. The hotel was generally nice and romantic.

Our room was too hot, I could not find any air conditioning controller or see a room thermostat, all we had was a ceiling fan to move the hot air around. We then opened the large balcony window to find that we could hear the next-door room talking till 3AM. 3:30AM the couple next door then decided that they would do the laying down dance for a further 5 minutes and 24 seconds. I believe that it’s very important for this hotel to invest in proper Air conditioning.

We had a classic room in the Garden Wing. We had requested 2 single beds instead of 1 double which was no problem for the hotel. The room was spacious and so clean (as was the whole hotel). We had breakfast included and it was so good. A really good range of food to choose from, including a hot buffet. The evening menu was also good - lovely food and good value for money too. The grounds are stunning and easy to find your way around, including going to the University of Essex main campus and further. All staff were friendly, polite and helpful. My mum and I were so impressed with the hotel that we are planning another trip back. I have been at the university for nearly 10 years and I am ashamed to say that this was my first visit to Wivenhoe House, but it won't be my last! Thank you for a lovely stay.

Nothing really!

The hotel is set in the university of Essex grounds. But don’t let this put you off. The grounds and area are beautiful and very well kept. We enjoyed looking around and everyone is very friendly. One more thing. The postcode on booking.com is not correct! Please search the hotel online for the correct one

Nothing really. Could do with maybe a bigger area near the bar if you just want to sit and have a drink.

Check in was great, despite the lovely girl that checked us in being trained and we all have to learn. However the room key didn’t work even after second attempt and a fair trek back and forth to it. The room really was perfect, cosy comfy beautiful views the balcony was fabulous. The Brasserie had a super atmosphere for drinks with local family and breakfast there this morning was fantastic. A love stay and will definitely return Thank you.
