Lily Hill Farm

Home made gluten free scones on arrival. Very welcoming. Loved guest sitting area/dining area with microwave for guest use. Views were gorgeous and very quiet area. Everything we could have wanted. Breakfast lovely. Will certainly be back there for longer. It's a working farm and we loved that.We loved the period furniture. We don't like bland IKEA beige places and this place isn't and has character.

Nothing we really couldn't fault it no matter how we tried. Karen and Frank are lovely hosts. The other reviews are true this is an excellent place to stay if you don't mind going down a single track road

The location was picturesque and so peaceful; a tranquil setting for the pretty farmhouse with panoramic rural views, and it was handy for Barnard Castle. The room had many home comforts and little thoughtful touches, and the host left delicious homemade scones and biscuits and chocolates. There was crisp white bed linen and towels; everywhere was lovely and clean. The house and furnishings and garden have lots of rural character making it a charming place to stay - I wanted to stay longer but it was fully booked. Karen's a great host and makes you feel very welcome. I really enjoyed my stay.

The only thing was that the bed was a bit too hard for me, but this is not a complaint as I know some people like a firm bed.

Everything! Karen and Frank were excellent hosts and made us feel very much at home. The room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely view over the fields. The homemade scones and jam on arrival were a lovely touch as was the homemade biscuits on the tea/coffee tray. They had a lovely garden to relax in with tables and chairs. The location was perfect for a relaxing break away from everything with plenty of walks and only 3 miles from Barnard Castle. We took advantage of the lovely weather and sat in the garden on the evening chatting and reading. The cows came to join us at the end of the garden peering over the wall!! Breakfast was excellent and cooked to order by Karen. A full selection of cereals with fresh fruit and natural yoghurt. All the fresh produce was locally sourced and very tasty. Will definitely stay again and would recommend.

This is a stunning place to stay. Set in rural location on a working farm. Made to feel very welcome and it truly was a home from home. Large bedroom allowed me to work with no distractions. Comfy bed, totally quiet and a pitch black room meant I got a great nights sleep. The large immaculate and modern shower room was an added bonus. So much choice for breakfast too. I regularly travel in England and stop off in Barnard as it's 45 minutes from the majority of places in have to visit. Highly recommended for business or leisure

The only thing I didn't like was the fact I couldn't stay longer! But will return with the wife next time.

Lovely views from the spacious family room across farmland to the moors beyond with sheep, cows and interesting birds. It was wonderful to be greeted with a homemade scone. Breakfast was excellent with many fruits and cereals and quality cooked options. Great care for gluten free and vegetarian options. Top hospitality and comfort providing value for money. Microwave in the guests sitting room. We were delighted with the opportunity to stay here. Thanks Karen

That we didn't have 2 nights

Lovely B&B was an ideal stop off as we travelled back home from camping in Scotland. A personal and warm welcome from Karen. Home made scones and cookies were waiting for us in our room along with fresh milk. Pleasant surroundings. Good information in the room providing advice on local eateries and also that the microwave in the guest lounge could be used. Good selection at breakfast time with fresh fruit, yogurt, juices as well as a cooked breakfast to order. Free (and good) WiFi available in room. Very tall son had the double bed (possibly a queen bed and seemed bigger than normal double) which was very comfortable. Ideal location for a visit to Barnard Castle the following day before we travelled home.

The pull up camp bed was expected but was uncomfortable - would benefit from a new mattress or a mattress topper to soften the springs a little. Had been camping for 5 nights and our camp beds were more comfortable!

Home from home! We loved everything about our stay ay Lily Hill Farm. Our room was lovely, the food excellent, the bed wonderfully comfortable and the views exceptional. Karen who was our host is a lovely lady who obviously works very hard at looking after her guests provided exceptional meals and baked delightful scones and home made biscuits for our arrival.

Good Lord! There was nothing at all to dislike. I'd not even consider looking elsewhere when next staying in the area.

Lily Hill Farm is in a lovely rural location and the only sound you’ll hear is that of Housemartins’ singing. My room was lovely and clean and I was greeted with a lovely scone, amazing butter and jam, coupled with a packet of homemade cookies - delicious after a long journey. My host Karen was lovely too; very welcoming and happy to make me a breakfast for 6am the next morning, as I had to leave early. When I arose, I made a lovely filter coffee paired with some of those homemade cookies (yum), had a pleasant shower then made my way on to my event.

The rain! I’d imagine Lily Hill Farm is even lovelier in the sun : )

Karen and Frank were very friendly and gave us a warm welcome. Nothing was too much trouble, especially as they learned I'm a Coeliac last minute and Karen adjusted my breakfast accordingly to accommodate me with no hassle. Situated in remote countryside the views were spectacular with moors in the distance and our location was conveniently situated for our planned visits of the villages in the area. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

A very minor point, but as I was staying with my Dad we booked a family room and I was a tad surprised to find myself sleeping on a pull out camp bed. But I slept ok all the same as we were tired after a long day out.

Fantastic, quiet countryside location with all one might expect on a working mixed arable farm. It was wonderful to see such a large number and so many different species of breeding birds too, including Barn Owl, Curlew, Lapwing and Oystercatchers. The room was very comfortable, we had erverything we needed and everything worked. The breakfast was the best we had had on our 17 day trip and we were greeted by homemade scones in our room on arrival... complete with fresh milk for the tea too! Karen has thought of everything, thank you. Very easy to get to and find the farm and just a shot drive into Barnard Castle for a meal too. Perfect for a rest on our journey from Aberdeen to the southeast.
