The Samling Hotel

The service was lovely and Rebecca was hands down a stand out - she had us in hysterics but was also super professional. The views were sturnning and the bar / lounge / restaurant area is very nice and the grounds are well kept.

We paid £490 for a standard double and there was only a shower, despite photos online showing there was a bath so that was disappointing. There was also stains on the carpet in the bedroom as well as some sinister looking marks on the bedthrow (!)...the shower got warm but not hot which again was disappointing. There was no extraction in the bathroom either and even when we were first shown the room, the room felt humid. I appreciate that the location is great but that's really what you are paying for as I've stayed in much nicer places for a similar price and this did not compare sadly.

Beautiful setting for breakfast in hotel restaurant. Attentive but not overbearing service. Quiet ambiance. Good turndown service. We enjoyed using the hot tub and walking up to the viewpoint/look out. Perfect location for a honeymoon. We stayed three nights and apart from a trip to a local pub, we didn't leave the site. It was relaxing and peaceful. Enjoyed the meal in the gathering restaurant as much as the Michelin starred one. Views were great from both restaurants.

Nothing really. Some of the furniture in the hotel room was a bit bashed/worn but nothing major. Hotel could provide better details/maps of walking routes in and around the grounds/area and some hotel souvenirs for guests who like us are staying there for a special reason and would like a memento. Book selection in library could be expanded.

Our fourth visit and each time the service has been excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend the fine dinning restaurant not only great views but great food, not only does it have a Michelin Star, 4 AA Rosettes it won Best Boutique Hotel Restaurant 2023. We stayed in the Grassmere room with three windows overlooking the grounds and views of lake Windermere a large comfortable bedroom.

The surrounding area and garden were fantastic, the views from just outside the room were unbelievable. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times of the day. The room was very nice, great Wi-Fi, big TV equipped with Netflix, Youtube, Prime etc. The bathroom was stunning, double sink, huge bath and walk in shower with heated towel rails and floors. The hot tub incredible with a stunning view.

The room service could have been a little quicker, waiting almost an hour for a sandwich and risotto. The food in general, although quite nice was a bit overpriced for the portion you get (but I'm sure that's commonplace for fancy hotels). Would have been nice if the menu was slightly bigger as there was limited options and if we stayed more than a couple nights would have just been eating the same meals.

This Hotel is absolutely delightful. My Wife and I were so well looked after from the minute we arrived to the minute we left, in fact, we didn’t want to leave our amazing Junior Suite!! The peaceful tranquility of this exceptionally chic property must be experienced to be believed. The views over the lake are beautiful.

Beautiful hotel, set in the most picturesque location. Incredible views from the room. The rooms where to such a high standard. Very comfortable with every facility . The staff where so helpful , nothing being too much trouble. We had the fine dining, which excelled every expectation.

Not one complaint , perfect stay

Great stay in a lovely location. Most staff abs excellent. Personalised service. Food evenings exceptional, though don’t recommend gluten free, yet. The wine pairings are generally good. Lovely lake view from room. Quiet, not a spa hotel. That said, outside jacuzzi is nice. Feels like you are a pampered guest in a private home (and you are).

Like many places no summer weight duvets so hot nights. Breakfast bacon one day inedible as so dry, next day fine. The sommelier is idiosyncratic. (But head of food/beverages is excellent). Wine list is certainly wide, but prices are high.

Amazing views, staff, food and the hot tub outside was a real treat. Nothing was too much and as someone who was really worried about being fussy and having a tasting meal - Rebecca totally put me at ease and made me feel as if nothing was too much trouble.

Only tweak would be to have Nutella on offer with my crossaint (and have them served warm) and to offer larger robes. But these are very minor things!!

Spectacular views of Lake Windermere from many parts of the hotel and immaculately kept grounds. The bedroom and reception rooms all beautifully decorated and furnished. Extremely comfortable bed with very fine bed linen and a choice of pillows. Spotlessly clean everywhere. Service impeccable, food sublime, matched with an impressively stocked cellar and bar. Easy to walk to Ambleside and we found some lovely off road bike trails. Expensive but a truly lovely relaxing treat.

Amazing staff make this hotel extra special, they get the balance just right. The atmosphere is one of total relaxation and the setting is just perfect being so close to the lake with spectacular views.

The introduction of the new outside eatery will be a real benefit so there will be another option. In the future a spa facility of some sort that would be a bonus.
