The location was perfect away from the hustle of ambleside yet close to transport links and walks. Breakfast was delicious, beer great and we saw the badgers.

When I initially booked on booking.com, it was for a room with a single and double bed yet when I checked direct with property, it was just a double. As I was visiting with my mum, we needed two separate beds therefore the property efficiently changed us to a twin room. We felt misled with the booking.com room description.

Very welcome from Paul on arrival. Room was attractive and a good size, bathroom was lovely and big and well decorated. The option to go badger watching was a big draw for us and it was a lovely experience. The staff throughout were always polite and friendly. The food was well cooked and tasty - loved my curry dinner and my husband enjoyed his pie. Breakfast also very tasty and set us up for the day.

A small thing, but being told that the kitchen was closing shortly so to be quick with our dinner order was a bit off putting when we got to our pre arranged dinner table (booked for 7.30). Just made us feel a bit rushed. However the food was delicious and piping hot.

Alex was lovely, when we arrived at the hotel he was so cheerful and made us feel instantly welcome and comfortable, he took us to our room and explained about food and what was available in the hotel, he also ran the bar, a delight to deal with., the lady who served us at breakfast was also lovely and the breakfast was delicious, cooked to perfection, one of the best I've eaten. Hotel was clean, comfortable, such character, loved the bar area and rooms. Suoer local walks, all the staff we really nice and friendly and helpful Really looking forward to visiting again !

Overall a really great place to stay, was very clean and pieceful at night. Room was 13 Daffodil. My only concern is the small TV which also does not have smart TV on it. I would at least like a bigger screen with smart features on, that way I could watch Netflix, BBC, Youtube etc, really makes it much more homely. Internet was available and had enough speed to browse internet. Breakfast was really nice and the staff were great. Being greeted as we went in and everything explained just made you feel welcome. Will definately stay here again. Thank you.

A friendly and comfortable stay in a beautiful location.

Perhaps a bit remote in the evenings, but this is a matter of choice.

We suggested that a light woud be a good addition over the shelf where the tea and coffee was arranged.

Pub and restaurant are great. All I expected and hoped for in a ‘pub inn hotel restaurant ‘. Staff was very kind, helpful and fun ! Our family room was very big, and the bathroom very modern and clean. The surroundings are stunning. We stayed here the first night of our arrival in Lakedistrict and made a beautiful walk along the lake, played in the stream and climbed trees just in front of the hotel. The gardens and Wordsworth house also nextdoor. Kids asked straight away if we could stay there the rest of the holiday

Food was nice enough nothing special but the mash potatoes tasted and had the consistency of powdered mash (I might be wrong).but don't think so.for the price you pay you expect proper Nearly £8 for 2 soft drinks Bedroom windows needing some substantial repair work on the original frames and glass work, just putting some new frames inside the bays just doesn't really work

Staff were absolutely outstanding. Ambiance in the bar was absolutely great. Food was good, tasty, copious and always served in a timely manner. Facilities were excellent - "9.9 out of 10". This is not a modern building and the overall impression and character is extremely positive. We would return tomorrow.

The less visible areas need a little TLC (tender, loving care) e.g Inside of door to room 6 needs re-finishing. This is feedback, not a criticism.

Staff, friendliness, attentiveness were excellent. great dinner and breakfast and very welcoming all around. Proximity to lots of popular walks right across the road, your instantly in the mountains and jaw dropping scenery.

It was pouring on arrival but unavoidable puddles to walk through at the front door and paintwork peeling off the porch walls give a very poor first impression of an unkempt operation, when in-fact all aspects of hotel room, shower, food and staff/service were of a very good standard indeed. I do think it’s worth sorting the entrance out a bit, it doesn’t do the rest of the operation justice!
