Gran Hotel Victoria

Great team on Reception. Very helpful and friendly. We knew and liked the location but not stayed at this hotel, but will possibly use it again. Restaurant facilities not quite as good as elsewhere but it was early March and not very busy. However should not be put off by this. Excellent room with a wrap round terrace, table and chairs.

I always get annoyed when a hotel charges extra for parking This was 20 euros a night but as the car was loaded for going home I really did not have much choice. It rankles that having paid for a room, used the restaurant and bar there should be a need for this add-on. Only downside to our stay.

The hotel itself is an unusual (good) design and has very nice grounds. The outdoor eating areas are lovely and have good views. Inside it is not like a corporate hotel and has several good seating areas and interesting decor. Our room had a lovely large balcony and we could see the sea in two directions even though the balcony did not directly face the sea. The hotel is a couple of hundred meters from one of the lovely beaches and is in close proximity to all shops, cafes and restaurants. The staff that we met were all very helpful.

For a four star hotel and considering the price of the bed and breakfast the breakfast was poor. I would expect, in a hotel like this, that you would have the usual cold meats/cheeses/pastries, etc. plus a menu of hot items such as scrambled egg and samon, eggs and bacon on toast, etc. However, every day was the same and the only hot option (buffet style) was inedible scrambled egg and poor bacon - every day. The cheese was poor as was the selection of cold meat and the croisants were inedible - we saw several people take one bite and then leave them. They were short staffed at breakfast and the bar was often unattended. Again, not four star standard.

A lovely modern hotel in a quite location. Playa de El Camello beach, the Peninsula de La Magdalena, and the Casino are all easily walkable from this hotel. Our room was on the 5th floor, the room had a large comfortable bed, plenty of storage space and a coffee making machine. The bathroom was large with separate bath and shower. The outside terrace was equipped with a table and four chairs and two sun loungers. It had amazing views over the sea and we experienced a beautiful sunrise one morning. One evening we returned to our room to find there was no power. The receptionist came and had a look, but could not fix it. As we would have to wait until next morning for maintenance to look at it she offered to put us in another room. We declined as we were going to bed and didn't see it as a real problem short term. The next morning maintenance were on it first thing and the issue was resolved. When we returned later in the day there was a bowl of fruit in our room. A nice touch.

Probably the worst cup of cappuccino my wife has had. We returned one evening and decides to have coffee in the lounge. I had a normal coffee with milk which was fine. My wife had a cappuccino. When it arrived it was in a normal coffee cup, there was only half a cup of coffee, which my wife described as very bitter.

The location of this hotel is excellent, fantastic views of the sea, a very comfortable place to relax, but also buses and taxis nearby to get you into the city within minutes. The staff were amazing, very helpful and always had a smile on their face. The food here was great particularly dinner, great choices of local dishes. We cannot wait to return to the Gran Hotel Victoria and Santander again, a truly beautiful place.

The breakfast staff except Jesus should learn that the first person to breakfast and the last person are entitled to the same choice of breakfast. If I want to arrive at 10am for breakfast then I should have the same food as someone that is there at 7am as I have paid to have it.

Exceptional location close to the beach and with good views from the rooms & gardens. Pre dinner drinks in the garden meant a good last night on holiday. Large room, good bathroom, balcony and view, excellent air conditioning. Reasonable menu choice for dinner as the surrounding area had only ‘lunch time cafes’. Going into town to eat would have meant a 30 minute walk, bus or car journey.

Surrounding area lacked good quality restaurants.

This is our second wonderful stay but this time we had a penthouse suite which was beautiful and the cool oasis we needed after a long journey in 39/40c. The cool Scandi decor was very calm and restful. The bathroom was uber contemporary with a large level access shower, might have benefitted from a grab rail but it would have ruined the gorgeous sleekness of it. The balcony overlooked the garden and the sea, the smell of the sea air was wonderful. We ate in the hotel restaurant that evening and were not disappointed. The lovely young man on the front desk advised a table in the garden as it was particularly lovely and he was right... our waitress was a lovely young lady, I think she was Griselda and she advised on the menu and wine choice and was spot on! The meal was superb as were the following carajillos... it's a good job our beds were like clouds as we had a ferry to catch the next day! Would also highly recommend the parking ... at 20 euros top end but very secure and on the doorstep.

This is a great hotel and can't really find fault. We were travelling from Bilbao but still chose to stay here ... speaks for itself !

To many fish courses on the menu on Sunday night dinner apart from desert five of the eight courses were fish , one or two of the starters were over salted. Also found a sliver of glass in the Tiramasu desert had to ask for an apology I’m sure it was an accident but only the head waiter showed any concern only after I had asked for an apology …

Location, just across from the Sardinero beach and promenades this lovely hotel is a great destination for a few days holiday. Nice reception area, dining room and gardens. Comfortable beds and balcony in rooms. Food was good, traditional Spanish meals, reasonable prices.

Lovely Hotel .We had a room with a large balcony and a beautiful seaview. Spotless rooms. Comfortable beds.Friendly staff on reception.Spacious seating in downstairs café. Evening meal good and waiters flexible with choices. Lovely wine..Outdoor seating. Quiet at night for sleeping.Good area around Hotel.Beach ,just steps away.Central location.Taxi 15 mins apx from the Airport.Hotel booked return Taxi,Relaxing Holiday. Hope to return.
