Sofraga Palacio, World Hotels Crafted

We stayed at the Sofraga Palacio for two nights. The location was excellent. It’s located in a corner of the walled old city, so it’s not centrally located within the old city; however, I would say that it is very conveniently located. The Basilica de San Vincent’s is 100yards away outside the wall, and the Cathedral of Avila is 200yards away. We ate at the hotel restaurant the first night which had excellent service and the menu was typical for the region and the food was of good quality, but it lacked enough flair to make it a memorable meal of our trip. The room and bed were comfortable and we loved the balcony window that looked out on the garden.

The shower was very modern and very clean, however, the drain was very very slow and easily overflowed the shower into the rest of the bathroom. We had friends staying in a different room further down the hall and they stated they had the same problem. I have a similar shower at home, so I pulled the grate out of the shower floor to remove any hair or other debris that might be clogging it. But I found the filter-basket free of debris, so it must be something wrong deeper in the plumbing. In defense of the hotel, I did not report it while I was staying there, so they did not even get an opportunity to try to correct the issue.

Sofrago Palacio is perfectly located just inside the city walls. It was easy to find and a great bonus was the private car park! It is well placed to visit the Cathedral and other sights. It is a hotel with character but also has modern aspects. We booked a superior double room and it was perfect, a dual aspect room with a bathroom with two showers, one a normal shower and the other over the bath. The bed was very comfortable. The room had coffee and tea making facilities with a Nespresso machine and pods, kettle and various tea bags. The receptionists were all very friendly and helpful, giving us a city map and advice about where to go. They were a pleasure to deal with. We didn't eat in the main restaurant but had a lunch and breakfast at the Gastro bar. The food was good, the setting delightful, the service was good and the music was easy to listen to.

Everything about the hotel we liked. Free internet access without needing to bother with codes. Comfy bed and good sized room. Location was excellent, quiet spot yet in the middle of everything, within city walls. We really enjoyed the atmosphere in the cafeteria, busy with locals, excellent service and good quality food. We tended to eat in the cafeteria because it felt relaxed and more like an upmarket wine bar. Food was modern and delicious. One afternoon my husband fancied a hot chocolate, my goodness when it arrived it was incredible. The best hit chocolate drink I have ever seen, just like pure chocolate melt. The Iberian pork was cooked over charcoal and was sublime. The staff (reception) went out of there way to help. We used the car charging facilities which was included in the car parking charge, easy peasy! All in all we couldn't fault the hotel.

This was the last destination of our two week tour of Toledo, Cuenca and Valencia. I am so pleased that I chose to stay here. it was totally relaxing. The room has all good quality furnishings, triple glazed windows and fabulous large shower. the bed was huge and so comfortable. we slept very well. the area for relaxing outwith the room itself are many. we didn’t have breakfast as we don’t eat much in the mornings but we had the tapas with drinks in the evening and they were all very tasty.

Superb hotel. Great location. lovely room. Clean. Lovely bathroom. Comfy bed. Superb a la carte breakfast . All prepared freshly. Waiter service. Spot on!! Motorbike parked safely at entrance to car park for free . Gate shut at night. Air con in room. Slept well. Situated within the city walls. Easy to get to all of the city. avila is an interesting place.

Marked down overal marking....We ate in cafeteria on last night. I had a chicken buger. Minced chicken in breadcrumbs. But the middle was RAW. and I ate some of it. I tried to complain to the waiter. Used google translate." I will tell the kitchen" . I mentioned samonella etc. But fell on deaf ears. Was concerned for several days after. I mentioned it to the receptionist who apologised..but i was still paid for the meal. No refund. Think the hotel needs to review how they cook chicken.....

The breakfast was very nice. Especially liked the French omelettes. The location of the hotel couldn't have been better, right in the old town with all the attractions of Avila on the doorstep. Our room was very clean, as was the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. Also the staff could not have been more amenable especially the receptionist/concierge who was obviously very proud of her hotel.

Honestly I can't think of anything. We were possibly very lucky in that the hotel had very recently been renovated to a very high standard in a style that blended in very well with the old town and the history of the building itself.

Old historical building with excellent renovation throughout and in the good location next to main gate of Avila’s famous wall. We were so impressed with our big nice clean,comfy,airy room. Staff were so accommodating and willing to help, especially young beautiful lady at the time of our check in, she spoke excellent English and so welcoming. Lobby and hallway were well decorated with lot of books if you wanted to read. In front of the main building has restaurant attached and having nice glasses room. Location was great for exploring the wall and city. We loved this hotel so much that we wish we stayed longer.

Junior suite 106 boards exceptionnal design as parts of the antique city wall, is actually one wall of the room. Everything one may expect from a luxury hotel is rignt here. Bedding is verrrrry comfortable. Verrrrry nice bar and on site restaurant. All crew met were above expectation. On site parking is a plus, or face strict parking rules from this old walled town. All messages sent are answered within minutes, so by giving your car plate number ahead of arrival, means the parking entrance will immediately recognize and let you in, like a pope.

Lovely setting with a well appointed room on floor two. It was quiet and overlooked the car park and side garden. It had plenty of lights, hanging space and a decent shower room with toiletries and good towels. The breakfast was plentiful and varied. Spotless and comfy.

Help with bags - it is a long walk from the car park to reception and we didn't know there was a lift. I then had to retrace steps to get passport. Not offered a sit down after an 8 hour drive to get there. Language difficulties as not much English spoken. Morning reception was superior to arrival, more interested in us and our visit. Server for breakfast was equally baffled by English and the menu was less than clear.

Location was perfect. Just inside the old walls and walking distance to all places of interest, and Information Office 100 yards away just outside the walls. All staff were very friendly. We did not book breakfast but did eat in the hotel cafeteria, although much nicer than cafeteria implies, and in hotel terrace bar where breakfast s were very reasonable. Hotel bars and cafeteria were far more welcoming than many hotels and seemed to attract many non guests, which was good and prices were reasonable for a hotel like this. We only had a 2 night stopover on way south but have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Many restaurants close by although some don’t seem to open in evenings and others don’t open till 9 so need to look around
