Vera Cruz Porto Downtown Hotel

A convenient location, very clean, a safe in the room with a mini fridge to keep water etc cool, the roof top bar in the evening (& for breakfast) Extremely helpful and polite staff.

The hotel is located in the Historic Centre of the city. It is within walking distance of many attractions, restaurants, pubs, museums and old churches. This city is an absolute gem. We had a basic room which lived up to it's title but it was spotlessly clean and was maintained every day. The buffet breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. The staff could not have been nicer and were so helpful and friendly. There is a Metro station literally 3 minutes walk from the hotel.

We felt that the room could have done with a fresh coat of paint and few more electrical outlets. We had to unplug the bedside lamps to charge our phones. The view from the room was of the back of an adjacent building.

The staff were all so friendly and helpful. The breakfast was really good and regularly re stocked. We had cocktails in the evening on the roof terrace they were good measures and well priced. The hotel was ideally situated for us to explore the city. The rooms are a bit dated, but perfectly adequate, they bathroom was clean and the toiletries plenty. We were a trio of girl friends in our 40's and 50's and it really was perfect for us. It may be a 2 Star hotel but the staff were as good as any from a 5 Star

I suppose the room we had could be updated. The hotel is in the middle of the city surrounded by tall buildings, it does have windows but the natural light is obviously restricted due to that, better lighting would be good and also a full length mirror would be a great addition to the room. All of that being said for the price we paid we were really happy, it is a 2 Star hotel after all.

The location was great, in the city center. The area is surrounded by restaurants, shops, and cafes. Our room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was very nice. The staff was excellent, very polite and service minded. Alexandre at the reception was always so kind to us, and so was the cleaning lady and the girls who served breakfast.

Our room had a small terrace inthe courtyard. It wasn’t very pleasant to seat there. The was water leaking from the air conditioning outdoor devices from the rooms above ours and people threw cigarret butts from their windows down to our terrace. I don’t think the hotel has rooms for smokers so someone must have been smoking from their window even though it is not allowed.

There is 24 hour Reception and messages through booking.com were answered very promptly. All the staff were very helpful,.the location of the hotel was perfect and the place was clean. There is a separate locked room for luggage storage. We were very happy with our stay as we were only in the rooms to sleep.

This is a relatively basic, slightly dated hotel. There was one chair for three people. The second room had hardly any space around the beds. There were no plugs for the chargers and you could hear noise every time someone in another room was having a shower.

Our room was very clean and comfortable. It was nice to have clean towels daily. We had a small balcony which was very nice to have. The front desk staff were all incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. The location of the hotel was perfect for the walking we did, and things we wanted to see and enjoy. It was a great value as well.

Another outlet in the room would be helpful. And, I journal when we travel. There really wasn’t a comfortable place to do this in our room, and the breakfast room would not allow entry until a specific time. It would have been nice to have been able to sit at the table in the breakfast room (or perhaps in another common space) earlier than the time they open. Other European hotels allow this.

The staff could not have been more good to deal with. Very down to earth and well trained with a sense of humour. They are .people people*. Most impressive was their capacity to use many languages and help guests practice new languages. There’s a tourist info hub virtually outside the door of the hotel and two metro stations are an easy walk from the hotel. There’s a very popular Portuguese restaurant almost next door as well as an iconic barbershop. The hotel is quiet and we had no idea there were si many guests staying there until we went to breakfast.

We thought the breakfasts were satisfactory but not outstanding in the range of food choices. Nice breakfast room.

The hotel provides solid value for it's pricing. It is an economical category hotel and it delivers to that expectation. The hotel was clean, well organized and outstandingly located in the town square of Porto. the location is phenomenal. So easy to walk to so many wonderful attractions with a wealthy selection of cafes, city sites, restaurants and shopping. However, the overwhelming triumph of the hotel is the hospitality of the staff. I specifically would like to call out Erika who mans the front desk. When I arrived, I had trouble with my internet connectivity and she went so far above and beyond to uncover the technical mechanics of my laptop and got it working. Not to mention her generosity of spirit with respect to restaurants, shopping and tourist site recommendations for foreign travelers. I felt very welcome and well taken care of. I will be back to Porto again and specifically, I will stay at the Vera Cruz Hotel :)

I stayed 2 nights and booked this place without doing much research. I was super happy I did. The staff at reception and at breakfast were great, very helpful and always with a smile. Great tips on where to eat as well. I also really liked that there was someone there 24/7, made me feel safer as a solo traveller. I liked the location. Close to the main train station and an easy walk to all the top spots. The room was big and the bathroom was nice. Everything was clean! I would definitely stay here again.

The only two very small negatives were that I asked for a double bed but got a twin and that there wasn't a huge selection at breakfast, however it did the job to start to a day of a lot of walking!

Location is very good. Close to metro stations and many bus lines in a nice area of town with some beautiful baroque style buildings. The staff were all very friendly, especially on reception. Breakfasts on the top floor offered good views over the rooftops and Av. Aliados and a good variety of food. Espresso only on request, though. Room was clean and comfortable and the en suite roomy. It's a good place to stay to explore Porto. 24 hour taxi stand is just around the corner, too.
