Pestana Palacio do Freixo, Pousada & National Monument - The Leading Hotels of the World

The hotel was stunning and in a quiet location just outside the city centre. Breakfast options were ok and the spa treatments were excellent.

The inside pool is currently closed for renovation - we were disappointed that this was not advised in advance as spa experience is not the same without. There was mould in the tiles and edges of the bathroom and the bath in an executive room was disappointingly small. There is a persistent weird smell in the downstairs area between the main building and the bedrooms. Coffee at breakfast is terrible - save yourself and order in town with a pastel de Nata!

the palace is beautiful!! the staff was nice!! the pool was great for our daughter she felt like a princess the building has history and is stunning!!! a bit strange that there is a separate building for sleeping quarters but we had so much fun and the breakfast was absolutely amazing!!!!!

Old part of building ( which has no bedrooms) is beautiful. Outdoor pool area lovely with views over river. Breakfasts excellent. Room very quiet and bed comfortable.

Location. Was a good 50 mins walk from town centre. There was no courtesy bus, which was not explained when we booked. Taxi cost £8 to £10 depending on traffic. Room was very plain, mustard tiles in bathroom needing updated. Did not look like 5 star room. Bar meals- very limited choice. Went to bar ordered drink asked for menu then sat down at table not far from bar but no one came to take our order. Had to go back up to bar and order food. Saw another couple walk out saying they had waited too long. So not 5* service here. No hotel information in room. There is an app which you are supposed to download but when I looked at reviews everyone said not to as it was hopeless.

Beautiful property - speaks for itself! Lovely, kind staff who went above and beyond. We were upgraded to a suite which was a lovely surprise - huge room! Lovely breakfast and swimming pool

Would have liked the pool bar to have opened slightly earlier - the best time for a swim was morning before it got too hot so would have been nice to have been able to get a drink before 12. The waiting staff were all so brilliant and helpful however I would say it they could benefit from more staff down in breakfast. Our first morning was fine but next two days were very busy. Absolutely can’t fault the staff who were there, all working really hard. Thank you :)

Beds were very comfy. Staff was very professional.

A little away from things. Thought we were actually staying in a palace but guest rooms were in a separate building.

The room had a magnificent view across the Duoro. The bed was extremely comfortable. Al staff were consistently friendly, courteous and helpful. Breakfast was superb in both range and quality.

The bath / shower was rather slippery but we didn't ask for a rubber mat. The wiring for the bedside lights was rather strange with one side doing all of the controlling of the other side small light.

You have to see the views!!! From the room at the palace and river. The palace outside and inside- like staying in a museum. Gardens outside are faboulous. Pool next to the river with good pool bar and service. Views of the river were amazing, day or night. The palace in the background made it even better. Felt 5 stars. Rooms was classic with everything that important. Food was good, was nice to have 24h room service. Prices of food and drinks was reasonable

Could have vegetables in breakfast. Could done better from a tiny cake for my birthday. Service was very good, but cannot say it was excellent

The Palace, the garden and the river views are the only, but exceptional, great reasons to book there. Personnel is ok; facilities, rooms and breakfast as well. There is nothing particularly wrong (nothing will deeply disappoint you nor stopping you to go back when in Porto neither). Personnel offered an upgrade for being our first time in the hotel.

The Palace is needing some exterior maintenance (e.g. some art works are a bit derelict), but everything looks fine if you're a regular person. The gym s too small and poorly equipped for a hotel of these characteristics. During breakfast today the table was not 'balanced' and we needed to change it. There is nothing particularly good (apart from the awesome Palace, garden and views) with the brand hotel itself. It can be a bit far of everything, but this was totally fine for us.

Part of the hotel is a National Monument, and the interiors are stunning. They have even retained some of the original frescos in the hotel dining room. I took lots of photographs as the details on the ceilings and walls is amazing. The Palace is used for the reception of guests and dining. There is no accommodation in Palace. Good parking available on site.

The wardrobe space was too small for two travelers staying for 7 nights. The tea and coffee supply are only complimentary for the first day. A bit too far from Porto city and we didn't want to take the car into Porto.

Traditional, old building retaining numerous original features re architecture and beautifully maintained. Suite excellent and very comfortable. Staff extremely polite and helpful. Service excellent and facilities at poolside and staff fantastic. Good location on the river with great views and shuttle service to city.

indoor pool / spa closed for refurbishment but not a major problem since outside temperature was 25-28 degrees and full sun. Required a day to establish the routes around the hotel re escalators / stairways between buildings and external services.
