Beautiful setting and perfect location. Comfortable room (updated) and lovely garden area.

So many people smoking in the garden, yuck. We were working and eating in the garden but kept having to move because of people smoking nearby. I wish the hotel would not allow smoking in the garden.

The Garden facing rooms at KGH are, in my opinion, the best rooms with a lovely view of the garden. The KGH breakfast is exceptional - such an amazing buffet of English/Continental/Nepalese/Chinese food - as much you can eat - and good coffee as well. The staff are all very friendly eg they helped me fit all my last minute purchases in my luggage prior to my flight back to UK. There are comfortable chairs in reception to spend time waiting for friends to arrive. The staff let me use the KGH phone for local calls FOC and the hotel stores left luggage FOC. There is a safe in each bedroom. The hotel feels safe with security on the both entrances to the property. The room had a heater; also a hostess tray with a selection of beverages.

There are some minor issues with room maintenance - eg cupboard door hinges falling off and curtain rails insecure. Like most places on the Indian subcontinent, the some of the electrics would give a UK electrician a heart attack eg having to balance my phone charger plug on the box of tissues to get a connection. It was useful to be able to use a UK three prong plug rather than an adapter. It was winter when I visited KGH and cold. Other than the breakfast room, it seemed to me all the other eating places were outside. The cost of food and drink was quite expensive.

Loved everything about The Kathmandu Guest House, it's no wonder it's so famous. A respite from the hectic Street life, yet in the centre of everything. Beautiful room with balcony ( I was upgraded) lovely lobby to relax in, beautiful gardens, outdoor and indoor restaurant. So many little places to relax in. The service is amazing, everyone makes you feel at home. Exceptional staff. Although it's quiet you are still only 15 mins walk from Durbar Square. Plenty of taxis right outside the gates to take you to Boudhanath etc. Travel desk in the hotel for longer trips. Beautiful gallery on site, rooftop bar, gift shops.

KGH is an oasis of calm in chaotic, noisy, busy Kathmandu. The gardens/ outside space are a main selling point. The staff - front desk and waiters - really are first class. They try really hard to get you into your room as soon as it is free, including for morning arrivals. The room quality varies. I stayed in a quite basic 2-3* $40/night garden room at start, and in a nice 4* room $75/ night at end of vacation. The restaurant food was of a good standard.

Neither room had a fridge or a lamp! For reading, the overhead light was the only option. My travelling partner didnt have a lamp pr fridge either. No fridge in KTM temperatures is a serious omission that could be easily fixed!

This is my third stay in KGH and I will definitely be back. The location is very central but the courtyard provides a peaceful escape from the busy streets. What keeps me coming back is the staff. All of the staff are fantastic and welcoming. I was particularly impressed by the breakfast staff who are so attentive. The daily breakfast buffet is very fresh with plenty of delicious variety. Overall it was a great stay at KGH and I will continue to recommend the hotel as a place to stay for friends.

My room was a bit noisy. I think it is a generator or my neighbours air con right outside my window. The room I stayed in probably needs a refresh soon also. Overall it was a very comfortable room, but might need some new paint, decor and a refresh.

The staff were incredibly professional and accommodating. They were always responsive and made the trip so much better. I especially appreciated all the help from the ladies at the beauty parlor and Basunta. The courtyard was gorgeous and was one of the highlights of the stay.

For some reason we were initially taken to the wrong type of suite (much smaller than we'd booked) and had to be moved when we arrived. It was resolved fairly quickly but was confusing. The bedroom walls in our actual suite may need a new coat of paint to look refreshed.

this is a wonderful property in the heart of Thamel! one minute you’re in a noisy crowed street and the next you’re in heaven! a beautiful garden with places to sit in the sun and relax. The staff are friendly and the rooms are comfortable. this has been our favorite place to stay for years and I am so happy to say I would stay here again. Thamel is full of great restaurants- fun shopping and it’s close to so many sites. don’t hesitate to stay here. it’s great value! an awesome breakfast is included - and guaranteed you can eat anything here - we did and the family and none got sick!!

Kathmandu is a noisy place - and in some of the rooms you do wake up early-ish. people leave for the airport and life starts. this didn’t bother us at all as we were there for adventure and trekking. having said this we stayed for 4 days after our trek and it was perfect!

The Hotel location is just perfect. The garden, night entartainement with live music. I fully recommend once you are travelling first time to Kathmandu to stay here, as a tourist life and experience would be great and much easier. Easy access and service. Local shoppings around, nice and locals restaurants also just by walking. I felt safety and welcome was a great overall experience. I have stayed in other 3 properties of KGH during my stay, and Guest house was the best. I also have checked other Hotels as International brands as first, as once I have checked in I didn't like the room, but location of Guest House made a total difference.

At first the room, I have booked a standard one, was facing to a wall looking like a prision, I felt extremely suffocated there, couldn't sleep properly at first night. Photos/description should be better explained in booking.com I have asked to change room or to upgrade to any other better category, which unfortunately was not able as the hotel was fully booked. However, they managed to next morning to change me to other standard room facing the gardern which was much better than before. Really appreciated. I would fully recommend once you are booking make sure, which type of room you did as reservation, as that will make a big difference in your stay.

I adore staying at the Kathmandu Guest House. It's an oasis of calm in a crazy city, and although other hotels offer similar quiet surroundings, noone has such a beautiful garden to have breakfast / coffee / beers in, with such fabulous staff floating around, always there when you need them but not intrusively. The rooms are a fair price and the breakfast is second to none. I've had to use other hotels in KTM for work, but whenever I have a choice, the KGH is the one I opt for.

There's nothing I would change about this lovely quirky hotel, I love its history, and its idiosyncrasies!

The “garden of dreams” is a quiet green heaven in busy, dirty Thamel. The hotel is very active in environmental friendly solutions like providing free refills for your water bottles and separating waste inside the guest rooms with 2 different bins. We received a very appreciated upgrade of our room.

There was nothing I didn’t like. Only the filter coffee at the breakfast buffet could be of a higher standard.
