The Danna Langkawi - A Member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World

Our stay at The Danna was fantastic, we were there for five nights. We arrived a little early and staff were able to accommodate us. We stayed in room 401, corner room which had a view of the mountain. The room had two balconies and was one of the most spacious rooms we've ever stayed in. The layout was perfect. Loved the entry way with the closet and space to keep your luggage and shoes. The king bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on. I didn't want to wake up. The entire hotel is beautiful. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet, great variety of food and very friendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed the pool, the cocktails and some room service. Best accommodation we stayed in during our 18 day Malaysian adventure and was the highlight of our trip. I would recommend The Danna to anyone visiting Langkawi.

The location is a bit further from Pantai Cenang but that also adds to the charm. Was disappointed the pool closed at 7pm each evening but staff explained they had to treat the water with chlorine which is understandable. Also sad to see the shops and restaurants in the complex next door were all closed. Businesses have been hit hard with covid.

It is by itself away from the main strip of Langkawi with its own beach. It's colonial architecture oozes retro charm & elegance. The central courtyard with koi ponds is stunning. There is a lily pond on a higher level too for quiet contemplation. Our favourite is the massive pool which is perfect for swimming lengths. The beach is clean and empty in low season - the water was not as clear as we would like it but clean and slopes deeper than expecting in places so perfect for swimming. The staff were polite attentive and helpful, The breakfast had lots of local foods which we prefer to the standard fare in most other hotels. The only problem we encountered was our lock failed in our room (by the way, spacious and comfy with 2 balconies) and we were trapped in our room for about 40mins until an engineer came and climbed thru from next doors balcony to change the lock. A minor gripe - the flip flops provided were the squeakiest I have had & slippery too. Perhaps change these before a guest has a fall?

We spent a fantastic week at this incredible hotel. Besides the unique pool in the park and the well-maintained beach, we would like to mention in particular the very tasty food at the beautifully presented buffet. But what we remember most is the fantastic staff of the hotel. Incredibly friendly, helpful and professional. Our rooms were also beautiful, spacious and in excellent condition. We can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel. With conviction and after site visits to several other 5-star resorts, we rate The Danna as the best hotel on Langkawi.

Beautiful hotel, fantastic service. The rooms and facilities are clean and its just a 1 to 2 min walk away from the beach. What we really love about the hotel tho is their FOOD. We tried all their restaurants, including their buffet dinner and Sunday brunch, and everything they served us is just DELICIOUS so kudos to all the chefs and kitchen staff, waiters are friendly and attentive too. We had to leave early morning so they packed a very nice breakfast for both of us. Rezal from the reception did our check out, and since we had to wait for the cab, he graciously set up the breakfast for us too. 😊

The staffs were very helpful. We had an issue with the room but the front desk receptionist, Ms Sudha and Ms Mariko assisted promptly to solve the issue. Another Malay gentleman named Zulkifri (I’m not sure if that’s correct) was also very helpful. He helped to apply ointment on my child. Breakfast, the ambience, the music, the swimming pool were all good and enjoyable.

The management should extend the swimming pool hours to at least 8pm. We were enjoying the sunset at 7.15pm and was told to vacate/leave the pool area because they need to close at 7pm. I believe people go to beach hotels with the intention to enjoy the evening sunset but closing the pool at 7pm defeats the purpose. I’d suggest the management to consider fumigating all the sofas and wooden furnitures periodically. Finally, about 15 feet from the beach shoreline into the sea, the sea bed was kinda mushy and feels like slimy to step on. It sucks your feet down. We don’t know what that was and dare not swim further.

Great infinity pool and deck chairs, amazing and clean beach, nice spacious rooms with especially nice bathrooms, comfy beds, very very friendly staff at every encounter (the porters were exceptionally helpful!). Although the check-in process was somehow lengthy, it was a lovely gesture to start the stay with a quick shoulder message while you are waiting.

The food and drinks in the hotel restaurants and bars are just bit too expensive. I understand this is an exclusive hotel but we stayed in many others of that kind and at the Danna it was just about 30% more expensive from what you would expect. No pizza for less than 120 RM? Just not right in relation to what you pay for a really great meal in any other restaurant on Langkawi.

on arrival we were surprised with a neck massage and had a great start. the rooms are very spacious and fulfil all wishes. the food in the restaurants was great - the service as well. I would especially like to mention the nice service, the great live band that played in the bar in the evening and the fact that, despite the early check-out, breakfast was prepared for us and given to us on the way to the airport.

There is not much to complain about here. Unfortunately, we found the hotel shuttle, which you can book to the airport, totally overpriced and completely unjustified for the short journey (at around 400 ringgit, because we had an early flight). However, they were so kind to organise a taxi for us. there was only a small couch on the balcony, which looked a bit uninviting (and had quite a few stains). perhaps the balconies could be redesigned one day. for us it was inexplicable that in the morning at about 6 o'clock the leaves were blown in the hotel courtyard as well as on the outside of the hotel. we were therefore awake for over an hour and had to ask the reception to stop. we would strongly recommend the hotel not to do this.

Exceptionally well-kept property with a lovely pool area and lush courtyard gardens. Great view looking over the sea and a beautiful beach area. The food served for breakfast and in the restaurants was of a high standard. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The room was large and comfortable. The generous-sized balcony was a welcome relaxation zone. A very short distance (five minutes drive) to the island's key attraction, the Langkawi Cable Car and Sky Bridge. Housekeeping can be personally booked to suit guests which was a very helpful feature. Some simple complimentary refreshemnts were offered at the poolside in the afternoons which were gratefully accepted.

While the Hotel is very well-kept and pleasant, the immediate vicinity shows the cruel ravages of Covid. The neighboring marina and shopping centre - which clearly was built as a hub for restaurants, cafes and other small businesses - is now a ghost town and all but completely abandoned. This is a great shame and severely limits the eating options for those staying at the Danna. While likely to be beyond the scope of the hotel management, if something is not done urgently to attract tenants back, then the area will continue to decay and severely detract from the Hotel.

I'm absolutely impressed with the hotel and the service. This experience I had was amazing. I would say that it exceeded my expectations. The ambience, the view, the service and the constance smiles from everyone was very welcoming, relaxing, beautiful and satisfying. The welcome drink and massage were a surprise. My son and I were pleasantly surprised and loved it. The ambience was breathtaking. The room was huge, comfortable and peaceful. In the morning, I had a wake up call from the birds which were amazing. I'll be back for sure. I'm planning my next holiday. I love Langkawi and thanks to The Danna Langkawi for making my stay the most memorable one.

Their hospitality. Good facilities, including the pool & cigar room. Staff were courteous and helpful & bothered to remember your name and what you had previously remembered. A good place to relax & unwind.

Some of the junior staff need to become more familiar with the product (for e.g. what type of fish is used in the food & chips; which drink is best paired with the cigar chosen). The meat & seafood were on the salty side, suggesting they were not so fresh.
