Hotel Monterey Osaka

The hotel is located very close to Umeda, Osaka. There are many department stores near the hotel, which is very convenient for shopping. The hotel is an old Western-style building, and you can take many beautiful photos here. The service staff are very helpful and friendly. One of our passengers lost his passport on JR. The front desk staff helped us communicate with JR and retrieve the lost passport. I will recommend this hotel to others.

Before checking in, I knew that the room was not very spacious, but most Japanese hotels are similar, so as expected, there was nothing I disliked.

The olde world elegance of decor were tasteful and made for relaxation. I loved the plush waiting room/ lobby on 8th floor. The staff were extremely patient and accommodating and kind. I liked how close it was to Umeda station and the airport limo bus stop. For a major city, the price was fabulous.

I had 11/2 hours to fill in before my flight after an exhausting day. The staff were kind about leaving my pack and using the waiting lounge but I asked for a bottle of water, even to buy it and staff could not provide same. I think a coffee and tea facilities there would be a lovely welcome touch. That area was well- used so I’m sure many people would appreciate that special touch.

Staff were efficient and friendly.

Location was far from train station and commercial area. Construction required long detour. It looked close to station on map but in fact it was a 10-min walk. I had a quick one night stay so wanted convenient location but this was not. Hotel decor was strange. It’s made up to be a 19th century Spanish inn. The room is dark wood floors, armoire, lights and fittings. Lighting is dim. Reminds me of an inn in Toledo Spain and not in a charming way. Not enough electrical outlets to charge 21st century mobiles. Very annoying. Bed was comfortable. You can hear train rumbling as it’s across street from tracks. I’d not stay here again.

Had two rooms for family with teens, triple room was surprisingly big for a Japanese hotel, so they had enough space with suitcases. We didn't use the hotel restaurant but 2 cafes just outside the front. Location was only like 600m from Osaka station via underground walkway exit 6-30 from the Metro/JR Umeda station Level B1 (a maze in itself!!!).

Nothing stopping us from staying again.... Being very picky, shower heads were either blasting stream or a fog, that's about it really!

Location is relatively near to the Osaka station, even nearer if you're taking Haruka Express to KIX. It is quite unique in design and spacious. Will not hesitate to stay here again if coming to Osaka.

However, need to take note not to mix up with another Hotel Monterey Le Frere Osaka which is on the other side of the station. Otherwise you'll end up like us, dragging our luggages all around Osaka Station.

Enjoyed the whole experience of the Hotel Monterey Osaka, Only real issue I had is trying to find out how to turn off the lights to go to bed the first night. Was not aware of special buttons on night stand. Actually a guy that stayed there and did a YouTube video showed his on the headboard. LOL.

Maybe just make those aware of where the main light switch is.

Room is clean and they do a decent job of changing towels and cleaning up the room. They even have a writing table which is nice, and they have a retro vibe - check out the elevators.

needs a good 10 min walk from Osaka Station to the Hotel. It is not as near to the station as it seems. But it is connected via underground passage.

Beautifully appointed hotel. Lovely fittings from the entrance to the room (including elevators). Friendly helpful staff. Not every hotel you go to has its own sandstone chapel (on the 8th floor!).

We needed more time to become acclimated with buckwheat pillows but that is our shortcoming, not that of the hotel.

Staff can speak English. Walking distrance to train station. A very nice hotel.

Can hear noise of train passby, but its okie for us and not really disturbing.

The hotel is closed the Osaka JR station. The breakfast was very good.

Because of the location near to the train station, we hear the noise of the train. Moreover, the corridors are not very soundproof.
